It's extremely difficult to hit aircraft with this gun, especially since the magazine only holds five rounds and has a long reload time, but if the shells connect with an aircraft, it will do major amounts of damage if not knock it out of the sky.

It is best used at medium-long range and firing your 5 rounds slower than it can allow you so you can re-aim back on target. Otherwise, if you are in close range, less than 50 m just fire off the whole magazine and run, looking for cover while waiting for the gun to reload, remaining out in the open while reloading puts a large bulls-eye on the tank for anyone to attack.

The ZUT-37 can be used in multiple roles, as a tank and as an AA battery. Its weapon has enough penetration for its BR to be used in light tank roles. It has very few rounds in each magazine, but if it hits it causes devastating damage to the plane.
 +

 +
One thing to take account when using the ZUT-57 is the handling. The T-70 chassis is already somewhat unstable to drive, and this modification is not an improvement. It takes considerable time for the suspension to settle from any substantial braking, leaving the vehicle unable to shoot accurately for some seconds. Is no use for shooting on the move because of this.
 +

 +
This vehicle also proves to be very helpful in SB or RB as a scout tank. The very good speed and acceleration allows you to quickly rush a contested point, or to quickly spot enemies once the round starts. Make sure to use the low profile to spot targets while moving though trenches or simply spotting over a small hill.

In the Summer of 1942, the design bureau at Plant No.37 attempted to create an anti-aircraft tank. N.A. Popov had the tank design based on the light tank [[T-70]] and was supposed to mount a 37 mm gun Sh-37 gun autocannon originally developed for the IL-2 plane. constructed by Boris G. Shpitalny. The muzzle velocity of the gun was 1000 m/s with 200 rounds stored inside the tank, and the gun can fire at a rate of 170 - 185 rpm.
 +
 +
The ZUT-37 was capable of firing both at air and ground targets due to the equipping of a telescopic sight and red dot sighting on the tank. The gun traversed on two special racks. The vehicle was not put into production because of the unfavorable arrangement of the crew compartment, and was shelved.

Description

GarageImage ZUT-37.jpg

The ZUT-37 is a premium rank II Soviet self-propelled anti-aircraft gun with a battle rating of 2.3 (AB/RB/SB). It was introduced in Update 1.43.

General info

Survivability and armour

The ZUT-37 is basically a T-70 with a weak turret and a 37 mm auto-cannon.

Armour type:

  • Rolled homogeneous armour
Armour Front Sides Rear Roof
Hull 35 mm (61°) Front glacis
45 mm (32-79°) Lower glacis
35 mm (54-70°) Driver's hatch
15 mm (0-1°) 10 mm (71°) Top
25 mm (41°) Bottom
10 mm
Turret 16 mm (22-53°) Turret front
16 mm (26-83°) Gun mantlet
16 mm (20-21°) 16 mm (1-8°) N/A

Notes:

  • Suspension wheels are 10 mm thick while tracks are 15 mm thick.
  • Belly armour is 10 mm thick.

Mobility

The mobility of the ZUT-37 is quite well with a top speed of 46 km/h and reverse speed of -6 km/h.

It has very good turning while on the move and fairly good turn rate when at a stop. Its acceleration is pretty good in comparison to some of the Rank II vehicles.

Armaments

Main armament

Main article: Sh-37 (37 mm)

The ZUT-37's only armament is the 37 mm auto-cannon which has an average reload time of around 6.5 seconds, however, this will depend greatly on the skill level of the tank crew.

Otherwise, if you are in close range (less than 50 m), just fire off the whole magazine and run, looking for cover while waiting for the gun to reload. Remaining out in the open while reloading puts a large bulls-eye on the tank for anyone to attack.

Usage in battles

The ZUT-37 can be used in multiple roles, as a tank and as an AA battery. Its weapon has enough penetration for its BR to be used in light tank roles. It has very few rounds in each magazine, but if it hits it causes devastating damage to the plane.

Pros and cons

Pros:

  • Quick and small allowing it to ambush other vehicles
  • Has a quick firing magazine
  • When it hits a plane it easily rips it to shreds
  • Can take a tank apart in a few seconds if used properly

Cons:

  • Fairly weak armour
  • Two crew members, a well-aimed shot can take out both
  • Longish reload making the vehicle vulnerable for around 6-7 seconds
  • Not very good at short range attacks because it doesn't have much armour and can be outflanked with its slow turret rotation speed
  • Cannot hit planes very well because of its slow turret rotation speed
  • Can easily be destroyed if hit directly with artillery
  • Prone to hull-break
  • Open fighting compartment can allow for aerial attacks to knock out enemies

History

In the Summer of 1942, the design bureau at Plant No.37 attempted to create an anti-aircraft tank. N.A. Popov had the tank design based on the light tank T-70 and was supposed to mount a 37 mm gun Sh-37 gun autocannon originally developed for the IL-2 plane. constructed by Boris G. Shpitalny. The muzzle velocity of the gun was 1000 m/s with 200 rounds stored inside the tank, and the gun can fire at a rate of 170 - 185 rpm.

The ZUT-37 was capable of firing both at air and ground targets due to the equipping of a telescopic sight and red dot sighting on the tank. The gun traversed on two special racks. The vehicle was not put into production because of the unfavorable arrangement of the crew compartment, and was shelved.
