After the first Pr.1204 entered service, the boat's weak armaments became apparent, prompting an upgrade. Eventually, in 1970, later-built boats were equipped with a casemate-mounted "Plamya" automatic grenade launcher, a 140 mm BM-14-17 multiple rocket launcher system, and the replacement of the 14.5 mm KPV heavy machine gun with the 25 mm 2M-3 autocannon. Even with these improvements, the Soviet Navy still felt the boat was underperforming, and nearly all were transferred to the Soviet Border Troops. Today, a small number of these boats remain in service with the Russian Navy and the Ukrainian State Border Guard.

The name is a rank rank German motor gun boat Battle-rating. It was introduced in Update 1.79 "Project X" as part of the fleet closed beta test.
+
Introduced during Update 1.79 "Project X" when the Soviet fleet was implemented into the game, the Pr.1204 late performs similarly to its predecessor, the Pr.191 armoured boat, but with improved speed, making it easier to navigate the map. Its main cannon, the 76 mm D-56TS, has both HE and APHE shells, capable of damaging light and heavily armoured targets. The 25mm 2M-3 autocannon can destroy light and medium armoured targets, as well as serve in an anti-aircraft role. It also has the 140 mm BM-14-17 MRLS, which is effective at destroying enemy destroyers. Additionally, it carries the same YAM-43 small coastal mine to block enemy paths to strategic points. One unique armament is the 30 mm "Plamya" grenade launcher, though it is not very effective beyond 1 km due to its limited range. Even if it hits the target, it does minimal damage due to its small explosive mass.

The turret is the most heavily armoured section of the ship, with 15 mm of RHA, meaning that it cannot be knocked out by HE shells under 100 mm in calibre. In addition, the bridge and Automatic Grenade Launchers are protected by a thin layer of hardened armour, making them more resistant against low-calibre HE. However, this armour is insufficient to stop large-calibre autocannon fire or armour-piercing machine gun rounds.

The R-130 is constructed using wood, the superstructure is hardened wood constructed to a thickness of 12mm. The wooden construction of the R-130 means fire is one of the biggest threats to the survival of the ship, the hull will not absorb so much damage. There is no armour on the ship. The R-130 has a crew placement of 41, which provides a great attachment of sailors, which helps to increases the overall survivability of the R-130 dramatically compared to other ships in this tier.
+
In addition, there is an armoured compartment protecting the engine. This gives some resistance against engine knockouts, which will help the stock grind (before FPE).

Compared to the previous version R-boot R-41 which only offered two single 2 cm/65 C/30 (20mm) automatic cannons. The R-130 has increased its armament with the addition of a single 3.7 cm FlaK-Lafette C/36 (37mm) automatic cannon. This substantially increases the firepower, by allowing for heavy and harder-hitting rounds. It also provides an additional benefit that it helps to increase the survivability of this vessel.

<!-- Write about the ship's mobility. Evaluate its power and manoeuvrability, rudder rerouting speed, stopping speed at full tilt, with its maximum forward and reverse speed. -->

However, the internal components of the R-130 are spaced out, meaning a good volley of enemy fire will not completely incapacitate the ship.
+
The ship has a moderate top speed both forward and reverse, meaning that you will never be the first to capture points. Your stopping time is also somewhat poor, and so to turn round it would be better to do a U-turn in most cases. However, your rudder speed is good, and gets much better with the modification installed, so avoiding torpedoes is not an issue for the Pr. 1204.

* The engine is placed, under the conning tower of the ship, with the transmission extending towards the stern (rear) to the Voith Schneider propulsion system.
+
NavalMobility
* The transmission is under the waterline which protects it from most enemy rounds, which would penetrate the ship.

* Enemy fire can destroy the Voith Schneider propulsion system as it extends above the waterline.

* Enemy fire can penetrate the ship's fuel and ammunition storage due to the fact that these locations are above the waterline.

The R-130 is slow in comparison to other naval ships at this tier, however, it is equipped with a Voith Schneider propulsion system which makes up for the slow top speed. The Voith-Schneider Propulsion system empowers the R-130 (and R-boot R-41) with a top speed of 50 km/h in arcade battles. In realistic and simulator modes, it has a top speed of 37 km/h, which is still respectfully fast, for a naval ship. Unlike other ships which use a conventional propeller & rudder system, the Voith-Schneider Propulsion (VSP) system uses a "cyclorotor" which provides incredible manoeuvrability, allowing incoming enemy fire and torpedoes to be dodged, just before they are about to impact the ship, without delay, whilst keeping the top speed almost the same. This effect is only partially modelled as of upgrade 1.99.

The 2 cm/65 C/30 automatic cannons are equipped with a 40 round magazine.
+
The primary armament is roughly the same as the Pr. 1124, and offers no new shell types. It is conveniently mounted on the bow of the boat, with a blind spot directly behind the boat. Being moderately armoured, it is rarely knocked out. HE shells are sufficient against most boats, but it is sensible to carry some APHE as well, especially to face some Russian armoured boats, where your 11 mm of penetration with HE rounds won't be enough.
To best utilise the cannon in a naval battle environment,  ideally use universal or the APT magazine choice. These provide the most stopping power in a ship to ship encounter. When operating the cannons, aim in front of the enemy ship, and adjust the fire by watching the tracer rounds hit the target. Locate the key areas which are important for the rivalship to survive and target those i.e. Bridge, Engine room, Ammunition storage areas.

The 2 cm/65 C/30 automatic cannons work very well in close and medium-range engagement. However, at a long-distance engagement, they are not as effective as other types of guns or cannons.
+
Use HE whenever possible, especially at longer ranges, because the APHE needs a solid hit to damage anything.

When engaging enemy aircraft, the 2 cm/65 C/30 automatic cannons are able to deliver a catastrophic blow to any enemy aircraft, which may decide your attack. The hitting power from these rounds, make this one of the most powerful anti-air deterrence in the game. With a few well-placed shots, Aim for the wing spars and engines the enemy aircraft will soon be destroyed.

3.7 cm FlaK-Lafette C/36 (37 mm)

The 3.7 cm FlaK-Lafette C/36 automatic cannon, is classed an auxiliary gun. The 37mm is placed on the stern (rear) of the ship, it has a great arc of fire. This can cover almost all the ship except for the bow (front), however, with the great agility of this ship with some careful manoeuvring it is able to overcome this hurdle.
+

To get the best performance out this while engaging enemy aircraft and ships using the 3.7 cm FlaK-Lafette C/36 is able to make short work of any irritating aircraft, without delay. It is suited to close and medium-range targets. However due to the impressive reload rate of this cannon, which only holds five rounds of ammunition per magazine, it is able to switch in between HET and APT in virtually no time.
+
Anti-aircraft armament
With the 3.7 cm, FlaK-Lafette C/36 has a reload speed from 0.25 to 0.13 seconds, in order to get the fastest time being classed as an auxiliary gun

* APT and Universal are the ideal choices for this gun.
+
The "anti-air" armament of 4 x 30 mm grenade launchers is largely ineffective at ranges of over 1 km. It is useful, however, in close quarters fighting (though not recommended), or for fending off patrol boats that get too close, something that is very challenging with only the main gun. This is a major improvement over the Pr. 1124, which had to use its 12.7 mm machine guns for this, leaving it vulnerable to the air.

The magazine (ammo) choices are:

Note that the grenade launchers are classified as AA, but the true AA is your 25 mm gun, which you can use against pretty much anything.

Special armament
+
Like prior Soviet river boats, there is an option to mount a Katyusha rocket launcher on the back. This can be effective against large or static targets, making up for the lack of torpedoes.
<!-- Depth charges, mines, rocket launchers and missiles are also effective in skilled hands and can take an off-guard opponent by surprise. Evaluate the ammunition of this type of armament and rate its performance in combat. If there are no special armaments, remove this section. -->

WBF depth charge

The WBF depth charge, holds 60kg of an explosive charge, it is a great weapon in the hands of a skilled captain, the depth charge can be placed to cause destruction to enemy ships by exploding below. The only reason the depth charge should be used on these types of ships is if enemy ships get to close. Depth charges are more inline to be a defensive weapon, instead of an offensive weapon. This ship uses the Voith Schneider propulsion system which provides incredible manoeuvrability, it is very easy to manoeuvre the bow where these are placed and drop them all under the enemy ship, causing the rival to explode.
+
Note: this artillery rocket launcher has a larger calibre than others in the tech tree. This allows you to fire up to 17 rockets 3 km away, very effective against destroyers.

It is important to remember that if they are destroyed on deck, it could also destroy the ship.
+
You also have the option to carry a few mines. These mines are very small, and were designed to be used in rivers. Using them against destroyers has very little effect, even several of them. These should be used against other PT boats, but are not really worth the trouble.

The Pr. 1204 late is very similar in playstyle to the Pr.1124 (1940), which you will have played before this boat. Remaining at long range is still important due to your thin armour, however more ships have guns capable of engaging at range at the higher BR. You have better defence against fast and evasive enemies and air power thanks to your 25 mm AA gun and the 30 mm grenade launchers, but these can be easily overwhelmed by large numbers of enemies. You are also still relatively flammable, and going into close-quarters battle is not recommended.
The R-boot R-130, is long, lacks armour, but is highly manoeuvrable with it's Voith Schneider propulsion system. This empowers sharp and fast turns which allow the ship to make sudden broadsides with its great armament which is able to accurately knock out an enemy target with a good range. The propulsion system, allows enemy shells to be dodged and courses changed, putting enemy range finders to shame.

This boat could be compared to a lobster, you will not be the first to cap a zone, but you will get there. You will be able to defend off attackers, whether it be air or naval units.

It is important to turn the ship into them, keeping the profile small until you are within range to turn the ship broadside to bear the powerful cannons on to the opposing ship. If it is possible to get as close as you can, then drop some depth charges under them to knock them out with a splash!

The 20mm autocannons, when using the cannons, make sure to track each round and adjust them - as soon as the rounds start hitting they will be dealing damage to the enemy ship or aircraft. When using the 37mm autocannon, it's short clips and supersonic reloading times, allow it to dominate the sea battle.

To take advantage, it is recommended that you put the Primary armament under command of the game A.I. system and control the 37mm yourself, this will allow you to command the battle. Or take command of all the guns yourself, beware - you will need to stay very alert and keep an eye out for air and small boats which may try to sneak up and knock you out.

The most dangerous foes which this ship could face is are small fast attack and cannon equipped ships such as the G-5, which small profile and incredible manoeuvrability allow it to get close, it packs a powerful 12.7mm machine gun or for the G-5 (ShVAK) which features a 20mm cannon!

The BMO, Pr.1124 and others like this, offer a sleek stealthy silhouette which can be hard to detect and could be easily missed in the heat of battle. Which can also be hard to knock out since they are armoured very well with armour plating. These ships also offer firepower which can knock out some of the biggest and meanest ships, with some well-placed shots, Flower class, PC-451 are also to be watched out for.

These ships can be countered by knocking out the main armament, first with well-placed shots. Once this is done, aim for the centre of the ship, and bridge area was the majority of the crew is located and fire up down its length until it is knocked out.

The Pr.1204 (or "Shmel") class of river boats were developed in the mid 1960s as a successor to the USSR's ageing fleet of WWII era river boats. 118 Shmel class river boats were built between 1967 and 1974. The boats were designed specifically to operate in shallow waters, such as rivers or littoral waters. The Shmel class was designed to support operations in rivers or shallow water conditions such as denying waterway passages, protecting harbours supporting troop movements, as well as providing fire support for ship to shore scenarios. As of 2017, several are still in service with the Russian Navy, with at least 4 assigned to the Caspian fleet.

Pr.1204 late

Description

General info

Survivability and armour

The turret is the most heavily armoured section of the ship, with 15 mm of RHA, meaning that it cannot be knocked out by HE shells under 100 mm in calibre. In addition, the bridge and Automatic Grenade Launchers are protected by a thin layer of hardened armour, making them more resistant against low-calibre HE. However, this armour is insufficient to stop large-calibre autocannon fire or armour-piercing machine gun rounds.

In addition, there is an armoured compartment protecting the engine. This gives some resistance against engine knockouts, which will help the stock grind (before FPE).

Mobility

The ship has a moderate top speed both forward and reverse, meaning that you will never be the first to capture points. Your stopping time is also somewhat poor, and so to turn round it would be better to do a U-turn in most cases. However, your rudder speed is good, and gets much better with the modification installed, so avoiding torpedoes is not an issue for the Pr. 1204.

Armament

Primary armament

Main article: D-56TS (76 mm)

The primary armament is roughly the same as the Pr. 1124, and offers no new shell types. It is conveniently mounted on the bow of the boat, with a blind spot directly behind the boat. Being moderately armoured, it is rarely knocked out. HE shells are sufficient against most boats, but it is sensible to carry some APHE as well, especially to face some Russian armoured boats, where your 11 mm of penetration with HE rounds won't be enough.

Use HE whenever possible, especially at longer ranges, because the APHE needs a solid hit to damage anything.

Secondary armament

Main article: 2M-3 (25 mm)

The dual 25 mm turret tears aircraft apart in a few hits, and it can help against very fast PT boats. A small group of these boats together with a destroyer have a decent combined AA.

Anti-aircraft armament

Main article: BP "Plamya" (30 mm)

The "anti-air" armament of 4 x 30 mm grenade launchers is largely ineffective at ranges of over 1 km. It is useful, however, in close quarters fighting (though not recommended), or for fending off patrol boats that get too close, something that is very challenging with only the main gun. This is a major improvement over the Pr. 1124, which had to use its 12.7 mm machine guns for this, leaving it vulnerable to the air.

Note that the grenade launchers are classified as AA, but the true AA is your 25 mm gun, which you can use against pretty much anything.

Additional armament

Main articles: BM-14-17, YAM-43 mine

Like prior Soviet river boats, there is an option to mount a Katyusha rocket launcher on the back. This can be effective against large or static targets, making up for the lack of torpedoes.

Note: this artillery rocket launcher has a larger calibre than others in the tech tree. This allows you to fire up to 17 rockets 3 km away, very effective against destroyers.

You also have the option to carry a few mines. These mines are very small, and were designed to be used in rivers. Using them against destroyers has very little effect, even several of them. These should be used against other PT boats, but are not really worth the trouble.

Usage in battles

Pros and cons

Pros:

 • Has a 30 mm grenade launcher weapon for defence in close quarter battles
 • Effective AA turret
 • Powerful main gun
 • Rocket launcher, highly effective on a hit
 • Moderate armour protects well against small arms fire
 • Good turn rate to avoid torpedoes

Cons:

 • 30 mm grenade launcher has short range
 • Only one AA turret, easily overwhelmed
 • Only one main gun, unlike Pr. 1124
 • Rocket launcher is very difficult to hit with (similar to MO-4)
 • Armour is insufficient against 20 mm autocannons present on many boats at this BR
 • Low top speed

History

The Pr.1204 (or "Shmel") class of river boats were developed in the mid 1960s as a successor to the USSR's ageing fleet of WWII era river boats. 118 Shmel class river boats were built between 1967 and 1974. The boats were designed specifically to operate in shallow waters, such as rivers or littoral waters. The Shmel class was designed to support operations in rivers or shallow water conditions such as denying waterway passages, protecting harbours supporting troop movements, as well as providing fire support for ship to shore scenarios. As of 2017, several are still in service with the Russian Navy, with at least 4 assigned to the Caspian fleet.[1]
