General info
Survivability and armour
Most protection you’ll get with this is from the from of the Hull and driver armor which is where the most armor is at (14.5mm)
Weakest area on the whole tank is the armor plate behind the cannon, it doesn’t help when 3/5 crew members are behind it. The gunner and loader are next to each other and when a shot or two hit them the 4mm turret armor doesn’t help with protecting them. The armor that the turret gives isn’t enough for protecting the vital crew members (gunner / loader) As long as your tank is at an angle where the front hull is more visible then you’ll be protected a good amount, but if your turret mantle is exposed, you going to be a destroyed half track.
The ammo stowage positions aren’t bad since they’re right behind the machine gunner and driver which will take all shrapnel from incoming rounds, but can still be easily destroyed

Usage in battles
The Sd.Kfz. 251/22 is a reliable vehicle and great for penetration against the thick armor vehicles such as the Matilda and KV-1. The infamous T-34s are easy to penetrate and many infamous Russians.
The Sd.Kfz.251/22 is the perfect tank for hanging behind larger tanks, assisting with supporting fire. Racking up all kinds of assists and kills leading up to the heavy metal warrior achievement .
Use the Long range to advantage, since this tank is a Anti Tank gun and a half track it was designed to be the nemesis to all tanks from light to heavy. Being on a hill top or across the lake is perfect for this. Always take into account that the light armor is a heavy Con and you can be destroyed by even light armament aircraft with basic 7.62mm or lower caliber weapons, so try to find some cover when planes are around.
There are not many tanks to avoids in the BR for this tank, pushing more than 2 tanks is not recommended due the light armor and open top exposing the crew.
Going against tanks like the T-34s, KV1s, M4s, Matilda's and other high medium armor tanks, is very easy due to the tanks high penetration, roughly the same as a Dicker Max, but at rank 2.
Tanks the Sd.Kfz. 251/22 should avoid would be the fast firing armored vehicles like SPAA tanks. Due to there high rate of fire they can wipe out your crew (which is exposed) very quickly. Avoid tanks that can only use HE even if they aren’t infantry or howitzer cannons, since a shot on a wall behind the Sd.Kfz. 251/22 can send shrapnel out and at the tanks crew.
This tank is perfect for those starting out Germany, and of course perfect as a first battle pass purchase. Great for everyone to learn the Germans superiority within the SPGs.
Pros and cons
Pros:
- Very effective from all ranges
- Super Effective penetration against heavily armored tanks in same/high BR Ex. M4A3(105) , any of the KV1/2
- Can penetrate the T-34s very effectively despite its sloped armor.
- Can make sharp turns while driving at good speed
- Good forward speed able to pass same BR tanks
Cons:
- Vulnerable to HE shells
- No Machine gun for defense against lightly armored vehicles and Aircraft
- Open top leaves exposed against aircraft and artillery
- Low armor turret plate to defend against base MGs like the 12.7mm and 7.62mm
- Small ammunition capacity of 24 shells, not very much to last the whole round alive
