Pros and cons

Pros:

  • Responsive elevator
  • Inclusion of a supercharger mounted in place of the regular exhaust stacks allows for good performance at altitude
  • Decent, fast firing, nose mounted armament that's great at tearing apart any plane in front of it
  • Good speed at all altitudes
  • Solid maneuverability at most speeds
  • Above average roll rate
  • Offers a different playstyle compared to most Russian planes
  • Very good climb rate
  • Brutal acceleration in a dive
  • Amazing cockpit view, despite a few bars
  • Very powerful engine

Cons:

  • Cannons have low ammo count, only 100 RPG
  • ShVAK cannons have a reputation for sparking
  • The worst 20 mm HEI round out of any country in the game
  • No bulletproof glass means the pilot is easily knocked out
  • 6.3 BR means it can face early jets, which can pose a challenge
  • Airframe is very susceptible to damage
