Usage in battles
Describe the tactics of playing in the vehicle, the features of using vehicles in the team and advice on tactics. Refrain from creating a "guide" - do not impose a single point of view but instead give the reader food for thought. Describe the most dangerous enemies and give recommendations on fighting them. If necessary, note the specifics of the game in different modes (AB, RB, SB).

Pros and cons
A cold war era medium tank with good potential. Got effective upgrades like thermal imaging, advanced shells and armor upgraded with composite plates.
Pros:
- The extra composite screens work as a spaced armor and are an effective protection against HEAT in some parts.
- Effective two axis stabilization
- Adequate gun depression/elevation angles (-9° , 20°), so good uphill and downhill.
- As it's a Leopard, good reverse speed (25km/h) to get out of sticky situations.
- Access to thermal imaging with a high resolution to spot targets in bad conditions.
- Effective zoom values (4x-12x) to look for targets and place accurate shots.
- Adequate overall mobility for a medium tank. A bit slower than the Leopard 1 because of the extra weight, but it's only 1 extra ton (from 43tons to 44tons)
- Deadly gun with excellent APFSDS rounds (408m penetration at 10m for 230SL, 1455m/s) with excellent accuracy.
- Good ammo options (HEAT, HESH rounds)
- Access to a laser range finder for quick and accurate ranging.
- Roof mounted 7.62 machine gun to protect against helicopters.
- Favorable BR (9.0), the same at the Premium Leopard A1A1 L/44, for a balanced German line up. It won't meet the 10.3-10.7 power houses when uptiered.
Cons:
- Armor isn't designed to counter high caliber AP ammo. It's still a Leopard 1 under these composite plates.
- Small crew of 4.
History
Describe the history of the creation and combat usage of the vehicle in more detail than in the introduction. If the historical reference turns out to be too long, take it to a separate article, taking a link to the article about the vehicle and adding a block "/History" (example: https://wiki.warthunder.com/(Vehicle-name)/History) and add a link to it here using the main template. Be sure to reference text and sources by using <ref></ref>, as well as adding them at the end of the article with <references />. This section may also include the vehicle's dev blog entry (if applicable) and the in-game encyclopedia description (under === In-game description ===, also if applicable).
Media
Excellent additions to the article would be video guides, screenshots from the game, and photos.
