Description

The Akizuki-class, IJN Hatsuzuki, 1942 (初月, namesake: New Moon) was the fourth ship of her class. She belonged to the 61st Destroyer Squadron and participated in fleet escort and transport missions in the Central Pacific and Southeast Asia. She was assigned to the First Air Fleet as a direct escort during the Battle of the Philippine Sea in 1944. In October that year, she took part in the Battle of Leyte Gulf as part of Ozawa's decoy force that lured the U.S. surface fleet away from the landing beaches in the Battle of Cape Engaño. However, this came at a heavy price for the Japanese fleet. She was the last Japanese ship to go down in the battle after putting up a strong fight and hitting several US ships. She eventually sank after being hit by several bombs from American dive bombers, and only 8 of her crew survived, drifting with 17 Zuikaku crew members on a raft all the way to Formosa (Japanese Taiwan).

She was introduced during Update "La Royale" as a promotional reward for the release of War Thunder Mobile she was also featured in a cross event with warthunder mobile for its two year anniversery. Unlike her sister, Akizuki, Hatsuzuki is in her earliest fit, only offering four triple 25 mm anti-air guns in the centre of the ship which dampens her AA capability. Other than that she fares the same as her sister, offering the quick firing 100 mm Type 98A cannons and a quad-mount torpedo launcher with reload.

Talk about the vehicle's armour. Note the most well-defended and most vulnerable zones, e.g. the ammo magazine. Evaluate the composition of components and assemblies responsible for movement and manoeuvrability. Evaluate the survivability of the primary and secondary armaments separately. Don't forget to mention the size of the crew, which plays an important role in fleet mechanics. Save tips on preserving survivability for the "Usage in battles" section. If necessary, use a graphical template to show the most well-protected or most vulnerable points in the armour.

Armament

Primary armament

4 х Turret2 x 100/65 mm Type 98 mod A cannon
Ammunition400 rounds
Vertical guidance-10° / 89°

Provide information about the characteristics of the primary armament. Evaluate their efficacy in battle based on their reload speed, ballistics and the capacity of their shells. Add a link to the main article about the weapon: {{main|Weapon name (calibre)}}. Broadly describe the ammunition available for the primary armament, and provide recommendations on how to use it and which ammunition to choose.

Some ships are fitted with weapons of various calibres. Secondary armaments are defined as weapons chosen with the control Select secondary weapon. Evaluate the secondary armaments and give advice on how to use them. Describe the ammunition available for the secondary armament. Provide recommendations on how to use them and which ammunition to choose. Remember that any anti-air armament, even heavy calibre weapons, belong in the next section. If there is no secondary armament, remove this section.

Describe the available additional armaments of the ship: depth charges, mines, torpedoes. Talk about their positions, available ammunition and launch features such as dead zones of torpedoes. If there is no additional armament, remove this section.

Usage in battles

In arcade battles, the best way to start the match is by taking out the light boats (torpedo boats, etc.). Those are going to be your main problem: you can take quite a few hits from guns but a few torpedoes will take you out of the match. Use your fire control system to your advantage: snipe the enemy boats from far away. Since the guns are quite easy to aim, so you won't have a hard time.

Pros and cons

Pros:

  • Easy to aim guns
  • Timed shells for anti-aircraft role
  • Good armour

Cons:

  • Painfully slow, pretty average turn rate

History

Describe the history of the creation and combat usage of the ship in more detail than in the introduction. If the historical reference turns out to be too long, take it to a separate article, taking a link to the article about the ship and adding a block "/History" (example: https://wiki.warthunder.com/(Ship-name)/History) and add a link to it here using the main template. Be sure to reference text and sources by using <ref></ref>, as well as adding them at the end of the article with <references />. This section may also include the ship's dev blog entry (if applicable) and the in-game encyclopedia description (under === In-game description ===, also if applicable).
