Description

The Type T-14 is a rank I Japanese motor torpedo boat with a battle rating of 1.0 (AB/RB/SB). Announced back in Update 1.63 "Desert Hunters", the Type T-14 was introduced into the game in Update 1.89 "Imperial Navy".

History

Design Number "T-14", in officially the No.538 class Mortar Torpedo Boat (第五百三十八号型魚雷艇) is the final production model of the Type Otsu Mortar Torpedo Boat (乙型魚雷艇), and also the most mass produced Japanese MTB.

Before WW2, Japanese Navy did not have interest about small crafts, and mainly the Japanese Army build such a crafts. But during the Pacific war US navy start commerce raiding by PT-Boats. To fought against them, IJN start to build the Type Otsu MTB. Ship design taken from Army MGB Ka-Ro, and using a wide variety of used aircraft engines that stocked.

But, stocked engines could not get enough powers, and using various types of engine cause problem of maintenance. To solve these issues, IJN develop the new engine "Kanhon-Type Mark 71 Model 6"(艦本式71号6型). This engine was a copy of Isotta-Fraschini W18 water-cooled engine mounted on MAS-451 import from Italy.

At first, Type T-35 (No.468 class MTB) equip two this engine, but for Japanese factories production of this engine was very difficult and production rate par month was only 3~4. (In later rate improved to 20 per month) Because of it they start to develop Type Otsu MTB with single engine. At first Type T-25 (No.469 class) equip one Mk.71 Mod.6 but hull size was same as former ones so it couldn't get enough speed so they re-design the hull more smaller.

They develop Type T-14 and T-15(No.491 class MTB) and Type T-14 was adopted and mass-production started. Finally, Type T-14 produced 83.
