Ammunition belts are standard 12.7mm belts for the USA, with the best for air to air combat being the tracer belts as they will allow you to correct your aim the fastest. Other belts may be used dependent on play-style and other options, such as stealth belts, although this is not recommended.'' -->

The unguided rockets are the familiar American HVARs, as well as the bombs being two 1000lbs AN-M65A1 bombs. The Aim-9B, however, is the most highly utilized loadout due to to its air to air effectiveness. Although the missiles are not outsanding in their class, they do offer a way to counter higher energy opponents from behind. They are best used on unsuspecting enemies from within 2 kilometers, with a best minimum distance of at least 6-800 meters, or .6 to .8 kilometers. This allows little time for evasion and limited movements to confuse the missile, as it's G overload is comparatively low, avoidable by most aircraft in the skies save for some bombers or attackers.'' -->

Survivability and armour
Examine the survivability of the aircraft. Note how vulnerable the structure is and how secure the pilot is, whether the fuel tanks are armoured, etc. Describe the armour, if there is any, and also mention the vulnerability of other critical aircraft systems.
Armaments
Offensive armament
The F-86F-40 JASDF (Japan) is armed with:
- 6 x 12.7 mm Browning M3 machine guns, nose-mounted (300 rpg = 1,800 total)
Suspended armament
The F-86F-40 JASDF (Japan) can be outfitted with the following ordnance:
- Without load
- 16 x HVAR rockets
- 2 x 1,000 lb AN-M65A1 Fin M129 bombs (2,000 lb total)
- 2 x AIM-9B missiles
Usage in battles
Describe the tactics of playing in an aircraft, the features of using vehicles in a team and advice on tactics. Refrain from creating a "guide" - do not impose a single point of view, but instead, give the reader food for thought. Examine the most dangerous enemies and give recommendations on fighting them. If necessary, note the specifics of the game in different modes (AB, RB, SB).

History
Describe the history of the creation and combat usage of the aircraft in more detail than in the introduction. If the historical reference turns out to be too long, take it to a separate article, taking a link to the article about the vehicle and adding a block "/ History" (example: https://wiki.warthunder.com/(Vehicle-name)/History) and add a link to it here using the main template. Be sure to reference text and sources by using <ref></ref>, as well as adding them at the end of the article with <references />. This section may also include the vehicle's dev blog entry (if applicable) and the in-game encyclopedia description (under === Encyclopedia Info ===, also if applicable).
Media
Excellent additions to the article would be video guides, screenshots from the game, and photos.
