DB-3 (Family)
Description
The Ilyushin DB-3 (Дальний бомбардировщик - Long-range Bomber) is a Soviet bomber designed by Sergey Ilyushin. It originated in a failed competitor to the Tupolev SB, which Ilyushin redesigned as a long-range bomber that entered production in 1936. The DB-3 was redesigned again in 1938 into the DB-3F, which would be renamed the Il-4 in 1942. In the Second World War, DB-3s were the first Soviet aircraft to bomb Berlin and would be used throughout the war.
