General info
The APX Canon de 75 mm modèle 1897 has just enough penetration to knock out most vehicles it faces frontally. The explosive filler grants a knock-out, as a penetrating hit to any internal compartment will overpressure the crew. The reload is rather fast for a 75 mm cannon, which makes missing shots due to the poor velocity more forgiving. Side shots will be required for more heavily armoured tanks such as the M4A3 (105), StuH 42G or Pz.IV G.
Available ammunition
The APX Canon de 75 mm modèle 1897 has 2 shell types available:
- The Mle 1916 APHE shell is, along with the HE shell, a stock shell. It penetrates 55 mm of armour at a 90° angle from 10 m away and travels at a velocity of 500 m/s right out of the barrel. It has 285 grams of TNT explosive filler, which means you don't need to aim for crew.
- The Mle 1900 HE shell is a stock shell. It penetrates 11 mm of armour at all ranges and at all angles. It has 695 grams of TNT explosive filler and travels at a velocity of 500 m/s, same as the APHE. It obviously is very useless against most tanks, and should only be used to dispatch pesky open-topped vehicles if you somehow can't knock them out with an APHE shell.

Comparison with analogues
The 75 mm KwK37/StuK37 and 75 mm Type 99 cannons are all quite similar. While the Japanese Type 99 has a worse APHE penetration, it also has the best APHE filler out of the three. The only disadvantage the APX Canon de 75 mm modèle 1897 has is the lack of HEAT projectiles, which all of the previously mentioned similar cannons have access to. With them all having about 2x the penetrative ability of their respective APHEs, with the Germans having the best HEAT. However, the APX Canon de 75 mm modèle 1897 does have the best penetrative power in its APHE, so at least it gets that. However the French and the Japanese stand proud with their high explosive filler, while the puny Germans stand at a pathetic 80 grams, absolutely pathetic. Not even as high as the 75mm APX cannon of the SAU 40!
Usage in battles

Pros and cons
Pros:
- A lot of Explosive Filler in the APHE for a 75mm, often overpressures the crew from the inside
- A rather short reload for the caliber
- Poor penetration is offset by the fact it faces tanks with equally poor armour, not counting the M4A3 (105)
Cons:
- Poor penetration for the BR (slightly better than the APHE of the 75mm KwK37/StuK37, though)
- Low velocity makes it hard to aim at far distances
- No HEAT round for armoured targets, unlike similar guns like the German 75mm KwK37/StuK37 or the Japanese 75mm type 99.
