Description

The 76 mm D-56TS is a Soviet cannon armament. It is found in War Thunder used in the PT-76B light tank, which then found use in the Soviet Navy on the Project 1204 gunboats due to the mounting of a PT-76B turret as a firing platform.

The weapon's designation suffixes indicate the weapon's format as a tank-mounted weapon ("T") that was stabilized ("S").

History

The D-56TS is a variant of the D-56T used by the Soviet PT-76 series of amphibious light tanks. Intended to provide fire support for Soviet Naval Infantry, the D-56T was not initially stabilized. This presented a problem for the tank as it meant it could not fire while traveling through the water and would not be able to fire on the move while on land, not idea for a tank that was intended to participate in beach landings. Enter the PT-76B, which provided improvements in multiple departments including optics, mobility and most importantly firepower. Taking cues from the STP-2 "Tsiklon" system installed on the T54B, the gun now its own stabilization system. The added weight of the new STP-2P "Zarya" two-plane stabilizer system resulted in more weight being towards the gun breech so the thickness of the fume extractor was increased to serve as a counterweight. The "Zarya" gave the D-56TS both an automatic and semi-automatic stabilization mode with latter intended as a back-up. The hydraulic stabilizer features a collapsible shoulder guard to protect the commander during automatic adjustments and an autoblock system for faster follow-up shots and improved loading over uneven terrain. The autoblocker can be disabled at the commander's discretion during which the hydrolock would take over. Unlike the "Tsiklon", the "Zarya" doesn't a loader assist which was seen as redundant as the PT-76B store most of the ammunition in the turret instead of the hull like the T-54. Along with the PT-76B, the D-56TS saw use on the ''Shmel''<nowiki />-class or Pr.1204 patrol boats using a the same turret turret as the PT-76.
