Spitfire Mk Vc/trop
Contents
This page is about the British fighter Spitfire Mk Vc/trop. For the non-tropical version, see Spitfire Mk Vc. For other uses, see Spitfire (Family). |
Description
The Spitfire Mk Vc/trop is a rank III British fighter
with a battle rating of 5.3 (AB) and 4.7 (RB/SB). It has been in the game since the start of the Open Beta Test prior to Update 1.29, originally under the name Spitfire Mk Vc, however this was changed in Update 1.77 "Advancing Storm" to the current and accurate name.
The Mk Vc/trop is a plane with no outstanding strengths or weaknesses. Its most outstanding aspect is its good manoeuvrability and powerful armament. Unfortunately, the Mk Vc/trop carries over all of the performance shortcomings of the Mk Vb/trop. Unfortunately, when coupled with its 5.3 (AB)/4.7 (RB) BR the Vc/trop will be put with slightly superior planes such as the Spitfire F Mk IX or the Ki-84 in realistic battles, and in arcade battles it will be put with far superior planes such as the Fw 190 D-9 and Spitfire F Mk 22.
The armament is composed of 4 x 20 mm Hispano Mk.II cannons. The recommended belt is most definitely air targets due to the composition of purely HEFI and HEFI-SAPI. The stock cannons are extremely inaccurate and prone to overheating. Fire them sparingly due to the relatively low ammo count.

Armaments
Offensive armament
The Spitfire Mk Vc/trop is armed with:
- 4 x 20 mm Hispano Mk.II cannons, wing-mounted (120 rpg = 480 total)
Usage in battles
It is recommended that one turn-fights with the Vc. Boom & Zoom is not effective, due to the slow dive-acceleration, climb rate, and energy retention. The maximum speed of the Vc at both 4.7 and 5.3 is poor. Planes such as the Bf 109 G-2/trop or P-63A-10 can easily catch it. The roll rate is average on the Vc. Due to the slow acceleration and speed, the Vc will enter "furballs" at a slower speed than most other planes. The Vc also bleeds speed extremely quickly. Therefore, the performance of the Vc are below average (except for the armament and manoeuvrability). The performance at altitude of the Vc is abysmal compared to the similar Mk IX. One can side-climb to gain altitude capability, but it is not recommended.

- Great ammo belts
- Good manoeuvrability
- Good low-level performance
- Decent sustained climb rate
Cons:
- Bad roll rate for a fighter
- No bomb options unlike other similar-BR Spitfire variants
- Poor performance at altitude
- Poor acceleration
- Poor maximum speed
- Mediocre durability
- Poor dive-speed acceleration
- Very high repair cost
History
Describe the history of the creation and combat usage of the aircraft in more detail than in the introduction. If the historical reference turns out to be too long, take it to a separate article, taking a link to the article about the vehicle and adding a block "/ History" (example: https://wiki.warthunder.com/(Vehicle-name)/History) and add a link to it here using the main
template. Be sure to reference text and sources by using <ref></ref>
, as well as adding them at the end of the article with <references />
. This section may also include the vehicle's dev blog entry (if applicable) and the in-game encyclopedia description (under === Encyclopedia Info ===
, also if applicable).
Media
Excellent additions to the article would be video guides, screenshots from the game, and photos.
