Armament

Primary armament

3 х Turret3 x 180 mm/57 B-1-P naval gun
Ammunition300 rounds
Vertical guidance-4° / 50°

Kirov has 9 x 180 mm/57 (7.1") B-1-P Pattern 1932 naval cannons for her main armament, arranged in triple turrets mounted A-Bs-X. This gives Kirov a heavy punch, but her overall firepower is lacking compared to other cruisers at her BR. With a fire rate of 5 rounds/minute, she has the slowest reload among the BR 5.7 cruisers (not counting Furutaka's 20.3 cm guns).

Kirov uses the OF-32 HE shell as default, with the ability to unlock the B-32 AP shell, the BP-32 SAPBC shell as well as the ZS-32 HE-DF shell. A major advantage that Kirov has is the astounding 920 m/s muzzle velocity of all her shells, meaning that leading targets will not be as difficult. The SAPBC shell sacrifices some armor penetrative abilities of the AP shell, but it is loaded with a whopping 7 kg of A-IX-2 explosive filler which is nearly 11 kg of TNT equivalent.

Secondary armament

6 х Turret100 mm/56 B-34 universal naval cannon, pattern 1940
Ammunition300 rounds

The Kirov has a secondary armament of 6x 100 mm/56 (3.9") B-34 Pattern 1940 cannons arranged evenly on either side of the after smoke funnel. This is a rather light secondary battery, but they are versatile due to their clear angles of fire and ammunition selection.

These guns have access to the ZS-56 HE-DF shell as default and the ZS-56R HE-VT shell is researchable.

Anti-aircraft armament

6 х Turret45 mm/46 21-K cannon
Ammunition500 rounds
13 х Turret37 mm/67 70-K automatic cannon
Ammunition2000 rounds
Belt capacity5 rounds
Fire rate180 shots/min
4 х Turret12.7 mm DShK machine gun
Ammunition2000 rounds
Belt capacity50 rounds
Fire rate600 shots/min
2 х Turret4 x 12.7 mm Vickers Mk.V machine gun
Ammunition8000 rounds
Belt capacity200 rounds
Fire rate600 shots/min

For anti-aircraft armament, Kirov has 7x 45 mm/46 21-K cannons as well as 3x DShK machine guns. The 45 mm cannons are not very effective against aircraft as they only have a standard HE shell with no special fuze, requiring a direct hit on an aircraft to deal damage. They serve better as anti-torpedo boat guns due to their rapid-fire ability and centralized arrangement. The DShK machine guns will be mostly for harassment purposes and to catch unaware planes.

Additional armament

Setup 16 x 533 mm 53-39 torpedo
Main article: 53-39 (533 mm)

Kirov is equipped with 2 x triple torpedo launchers firing the 53-39 torpedo. The base setting for these are a range of 4,000 meters with a high speed of 51 knots. Using the torpedo mode upgrade, they can be adjusted to 10,000 meters range at a reduced speed of 34 knots. Due to the location of the launchers being low and behind raised structure, the ship is not able to launch torpedoes towards the front, and must turn to release weapons.

Usage in battles

The main cannons of the vehicle are good and should be used as its main weaponry in comparison with other ships that have good secondary armament. The best tactic would consist on staying behind cover to prevent being killed by torpedoes and paying attention to planes flying nearby because of the lack of good AA. The main armament has an excellent rate of fire, so it is possible to run out of ammo.

Pros and cons

The main cannons of the vehicle are good and should be used as its main weaponry in comparison with other ships that have good secondary armament. The best tactic would consist on staying behind cover to prevent being killed by torpedoes and paying attention to planes flying nearby because of the lack of good AA. The main armament has an excellent rate of fire, so it is possible to run out of ammo.

Pros:

  • Much more fire rate in comparison with 203 cannons while having better shells.
  • Better AA than the Kirov.

Cons:

  • Lacks armor in comparison with other 5.7 ships and the Maxim Gorky.
  • Only obtainable from Battle Pass 3, and it's not a premium.
  • Although it has better AA than the Kirov and Maxim Gorky, its AA it's still bad in comparison with other 5.7 ships
  • The wiki from this is a copy from the Kirov ship

History

Describe the history of the creation and combat usage of the ship in more detail than in the introduction. If the historical reference turns out to be too long, take it to a separate article, taking a link to the article about the ship and adding a block "/History" (example: https://wiki.warthunder.com/(Ship-name)/History) and add a link to it here using the main template. Be sure to reference text and sources by using <ref></ref>, as well as adding them at the end of the article with <references />. This section may also include the ship's dev blog entry (if applicable) and the in-game encyclopedia description (under === In-game description ===, also if applicable).
