Survivability and armour

Examine the survivability of the aircraft. Note how vulnerable the structure is and how secure the pilot is, whether the fuel tanks are armoured, etc. Describe the armour, if there is any, and also mention the vulnerability of other critical aircraft systems.

Armaments

Offensive armament

The Bf 110 G-4 is armed with:

  • 2 x 30 mm MK 108 cannons, nose-mounted (120 rpg left + 135 rpg right = 255 total)
  • 2 x 20 mm MG 151 cannons, chin-mounted (240 rpg = 480 total)

Suspended armament

Main articles: Wfr.Gr.21, MG 151 (20 mm)

The Bf 110 G-4 can be outfitted with the following ordnance:

  • 2 x 20 mm MG 151 cannons (375 rpg = 750 total)
  • 2 x 20 mm MG 151 cannons (375 rpg = 750 total) + 12 x 50 kg SC50JA bombs (600 kg total)
  • 2 x 20 mm MG 151 cannons (375 rpg = 750 total) + 2 x 250 kg SC250JA bombs (500 kg total)
  • 2 x 20 mm MG 151 cannons (375 rpg = 750 total) + 1 x 500 kg SC500K bomb (500 kg total)
  • 2 x 20 mm MG 151 cannons (375 rpg = 750 total) + 2 x 500 kg SC500K bombs (1,000 kg total)
  • 2 x 20 mm MG 151 cannons (375 rpg = 750 total) + 1 x 1,000 kg SC1000L2 bomb (1,000 kg total)
  • 2 x 20 mm MG 151 cannons (375 rpg = 750 total) + 1 x 1,000 kg SC1000L2 bomb + 1 x 250 kg SC250JA bomb (1,250 kg total)
  • 4 x 20 mm MG 151 cannons (238 rpg = 950 total)
  • 2 x 20 mm MG 151 cannons (375 rpg = 750 total) + 4 x Wfr.Gr.21 rockets
  • 4 x 20 mm MG 151 cannons (238 rpg = 950 total) + 4 x Wfr.Gr.21 rockets

Defensive armament

Main article: MG 81 (7.92 mm)

The Bf 110 G-4 is defended by:

  • 2 x 7.92 mm MG 81 machine guns, turret (750 rpg = 1,500 total)

Usage in battles

Describe the tactics of playing in the aircraft, the features of using aircraft in a team and advice on tactics. Refrain from creating a "guide" - do not impose a single point of view, but instead, give the reader food for thought. Examine the most dangerous enemies and give recommendations on fighting them. If necessary, note the specifics of the game in different modes (AB, RB, SB).

With the Schrage Musik cannons, the Bf 110 G-4 can adapt to a new way of bomber hunting by flying under the bomber and using the vertical cannons to clip the wings or pilot snipe from the bottom. Keep in mind some bombers have ball gunners. Daring players may use the Schrage Musik for ground strafing by flying inverted. Players familiar with the Bf 110 will understand boom and zoom tactics are best used. Be wary of dogfights or large clusters of enemies.

Pros and cons

Summarise and briefly evaluate the vehicle in terms of its characteristics and combat effectiveness. Mark its pros and cons in the bulleted list. Try not to use more than 6 points for each of the characteristics. Avoid using categorical definitions such as "bad", "good" and the like - use substitutions with softer forms such as "inadequate" and "effective".

Pros:

  • More offensive armaments than the G-2 while retaining the same BR
  • Access to the Schrage Musik cannon for bomber hunting
  • Has radar
  • Fast firing defensive armament

Cons:

  • Schrage Musik cannon is difficult to use for anything other than bomber hunting without experience
  • Too heavy for anything other than boom and zoom or bomber hunting
  • Radar creates drag

History

Describe the history of the creation and combat usage of the aircraft in more detail than in the introduction. If the historical reference turns out to be too long, take it to a separate article, taking a link to the article about the vehicle and adding a block "/History" (example: https://wiki.warthunder.com/(Vehicle-name)/History) and add a link to it here using the main template. Be sure to reference text and sources by using <ref></ref>, as well as adding them at the end of the article with <references />. This section may also include the vehicle's dev blog entry (if applicable) and the in-game encyclopedia description (under === In-game description ===, also if applicable).

Media

Excellent additions to the article would be video guides, screenshots from the game, and photos.
