History

In 1943 a tank gun based on the A-19 was developed for the new IS tank, in particular because the existing 85 mm tank gun utilized in the early prototypes was deemed insufficient.

There are two variants of this cannon:

D-25T (Russian: Д-25Т): This gun was designed for tanks, mainly to work on turrets.

This tank gun variant was used in tanks such as IS-2, IS-2 Mod. 1944, IS-3, IS-4.

The letter T, from Russian "Танковая", (tank; means "Tank gun"), was used to classify.

D-25S (Russian Д-25С): This variant was designed specially for self-propelled guns and tank destroyers was used in late production ISU-122 self-propelled gun, called ISU-122S.

This self-propelled variant was used in tanks destroyers such as ISU-122S (Not ISU-122) and the experimental self-propelled SU-122P.

The letter S, from Russian "Самоходная" (Self-propelled in English) was used to classify this late variant.
