The RP rocket with fins folded and deployed (scale is approximate)

The RP, also known as the 2" RP or simply 2-inch rocket, is a British unguided rocket. Other designations include Royal Ordnance 2-inch rocket, Royal Navy 2" rocket, 2" Folding-Fin Rocket (FFR) Mk.1 or MATRA Two-inch rocket.

Effective damage

The RP detonates via an impact fuse. The majority of the damage comes from the fragmentation of the rocket.

Comparison with analogues

Give a comparative description of rockets that have firepower equal to this weapon.

Usage in battles

Describe situations when you would utilise this rocket in-game (vehicle, pillbox, base, etc)

Pros and cons

Summarise and briefly evaluate the weaponry in terms of its characteristics and combat effectiveness. Mark pros and cons as a list.

Pros:

  • Relatively high velocity (657 m/s)
  • High count of rocket per pod (36)
  • Very effective against lightly armoured vehicles

Cons:

  • Rocket pods add parasitic drag to the aircraft
  • Cannot destroy Pillboxes
  • Poor explosive filler, useless against armoured targets

History

The Royal Navy developed the 2-inch folding-fin/stabilized rocket during the Cold War, as a replacement for the French SNEB after a carrier-based electromagnetic interference caused issues with the pod-mounted rockets. The Royal Navy commissioned the company, Thomas French & Sons Limited to develop a majority of the pod mounts that could hold the new 2in rockets. The pods were modified and redesigned SNEB pods, developed with permission from Matra.

Media

Excellent additions to the article would be video guides, screenshots from the game, and photos.
