Due to the design of V-12D is still the same as his predecessor V-11 (which, was a single engine airliner), the aircraft has none extra protection against anything, meaning that V-12D should avoid heated battlefield or area covered by SPAAGs. But one good news is that the fuel tanks are all self-healing tanks so it might potentially save your day from burning into a pile of scrap.

V-12D is an slight upgrade over the previous V-11, sharing a very similar flight performance. It is labeled as an attacker (strike aircraft) as well so it will have an air respawn. For most of the time, avoid dogfights and keep away from SPAAGs to maximize the odds of survival; for self-defense, the dead-angle under the belly is now covered by another .30 M1919 machine gun. But in dire, its average turn rate is still sufficient to do last-ditch dogfights against heavy interceptors, with a pair of AN/M2 .50 machine gun, it can shoot down most aircrafts it might face and strafing open top or weakly armored ground targets (which is common at its tier) is also viable.

The only two option of loadouts are single 500 pound AN-M64 bomb or a pair of 250 pound AN-M63 bombs, depending on your choice between higher yield "one-hit kill" or you need a "fail-safe" second bomb; although seemed insufficient and requires precise hits over the target to score a kill, they are still viable to bomb interwar or early WWII tanks with relatively ease.

Description

The V-12D was the other variant of the Vultee V-1 airliner which was then converted into attackers used by NRAAF. After the deal of V-11 for the Nationalist government and the total outbreak of the Sino-Japanese War, the government purchased the newer V-12 series with an upgraded engine and slightly better armaments to further strengthen the air force against the Japanese forces; due to the blockade of Chinese waters and sparse on information, there were only 3 to 4 of them ever made it to Mainland China as SKD kits for Chinese aircraft factory after they retreated to Yunnan. Some of these parts were soon shipped to the British Raj (India) but no further records of any of these aircraft ever assembled or served in battles.

Introduced in Update "Ground Breaking" alongside its brother V-11, although both aircraft look similar and carry identical, lacklustre ground payload; thanks to the upgraded engine and rearranged armaments with two .50 cal on nose, V-12D can be said as a better alternative to V-11 once researched and somewhat a makeshift fighter against early fighters if they are careless of their six o'clock (tail).

Armaments

Offensive armament

Ammunition1 200 rounds
Fire rate750 shots/min
Main article: M2 Browning (12.7 mm)

The V-12D is armed with:

  • 2 x 12.7 mm M2 Browning machine guns, nose-mounted (600 rpg = 1,200 total)

Suspended armament

List of setups (2)
Setup 12 x 250 lb AN-M57 bomb
Setup 21 x 500 lb AN-M64A1 bomb

The V-12D can be outfitted with the following ordnance:

  • Without load
  • 2 x 250 lb AN-M57 bombs (500 lb total)
  • 1 x 500 lb AN-M64A1 bomb (500 lb total)

Defensive armament

Ammunition500 rounds
Fire rate1000 shots/min
Main article: Browning (7.62 mm)

The V-12D is defended by:

  • 1 x 7.62 mm Browning machine gun, dorsal turret (500 rpg)
  • 1 x 7.62 mm Browning machine gun, ventral turret (500 rpg)

Usage in battles

V-12D is a significant upgrade over the previous V-11, sharing a very similar flight performance. The new engine, with nearly twice the engine output as the V-11, gives the V-12D better general flight characteristics (climb, acceleration, cruising speed, etc). It is labelled as an attacker (strike aircraft) as well so it will have an air respawn. For most of the time, avoid dogfights and keep away from SPAAGs to maximize the odds of survival. For self-defense, the dead-angle under the belly is now covered by another .30 M1919 machine gun. But in dire, its average turn rate is still sufficient to do last-ditch dogfights against heavy interceptors. One small yet significant change is the replacement of the quad .30 cal MGs with a pair of nose-mounted .50 cal MGs, which have the option to load the highly potent M8 API round, making air-to-air combat a more viable last-ditch option as they will set anything important on fire with enough well-placed shots

The only two option of loadouts are single 500 pound AN-M64 bomb or a pair of 250 pound AN-M63 bombs, allowing a choice between a higher yield "one-hit knock-out" bomb or the availability of a "fail-safe" second bomb. Although the bomb payload seems insufficient and requires precise hits over the target to score a kill, they are still viable to bomb interwar or early WWII tanks with relatively ease.

Pros and cons

Pros:

  • 1 x 500 lb or 2 x 250 lb bombload is adequate against ground units
  • 2 x nose-mounted 12.7 mm MG is sufficient for self-defence against fighters such as Ki-43
  • 2 x 250 lb bombs drop separately, allowing 2 passes though better aim is required
  • Has ventral and dorsal turrets allowing it to fend off some attackers behind it
  • Turns decently with combat/takeoff flaps
  • Good over-the-nose view, beneficial in simulator battles
  • Powerful engine

Cons:

  • Bombload is quite lacklustre for a ground attacker
  • Low speed, will easily get caught by fighters like Bf 109 F, Ki-44, YaK-1
  • Slow roll rate
  • Turrets with 7.62 mm guns are not potent enough to damage robust targets like Ju 87, Bf 110
  • Rather poor survivability when tailed
