In 1932 the Imperial Japanese Navy requested the Kawanishi Aircraft Company produce a replacement for the company's Kawanishi E5K. The resulting design, designated the '''Kawanishi E7K1''', was an equal span biplane powered by a 462 kW (620 hp) Hiro Type 91 W-12 liquid-cooled inline engine. The first aircraft flew on 6 February 1933 and was handed over to the navy for trials three months later. It was flown in competition with the Aichi AB-6 which was designed to meet the same 7-''Shi'' requirement. The E7K1 was ordered into production as the '''Navy Type 94 Reconnaissance Seaplane''' (九四式水上偵察機) and entered service in early 1935. It became a popular aircraft, but was hindered by the unreliability of the Hiro engine. Later production E7K1s were fitted with a more powerful version of the Hiro 91, but this did not improve the reliability. In 1938 Kawanishi developed an improved '''E7K2''' with a Mitsubishi Zuisei 11 radial engine, it first flew in August 1938 and was ordered by the Navy as the '''Navy Type 94 Reconnaissance Seaplane Model 2'''. The earlier E7K1 was renamed to '''Navy Type 94 Reconnaissance Seaplane Model 1'''.<!-- ''Describe the history of the creation and combat usage of the aircraft in more detail than in the introduction. Description

The E7K2, designated as Type 94 Reconnaissance Seaplane (九四式水上偵察機) was a Japanese three-seat reconnaissance seaplane that was developed by the Kawanishi Aircraft Company in 1938 as an improvement of the earlier E7K1 model. The E7K2 had a more reliable and powerful Mitsubishi Zuisei 11 radial engine, which increased its speed and performance. The E7K2 was ordered by the Imperial Japanese Navy and was used extensively in the Pacific War until 1943.

It was introduced in Update "Winged Lions" as a ship-launched reconnaissance aircraft.

Survivability and armour

Examine the survivability of the aircraft. Note how vulnerable the structure is and how secure the pilot is, whether the fuel tanks are armoured, etc. Describe the armour, if there is any, and also mention the vulnerability of other critical aircraft systems.

The E7K2 is defended by:

  • 1 x 7.7 mm Type 92 machine gun, dorsal turret (485 rpg)
  • 1 x 7.7 mm Type 92 machine gun, ventral turret (388 rpg)

Usage in battles

Describe the tactics of playing in the aircraft, the features of using aircraft in a team and advice on tactics. Refrain from creating a "guide" - do not impose a single point of view, but instead, give the reader food for thought. Examine the most dangerous enemies and give recommendations on fighting them. If necessary, note the specifics of the game in different modes (AB, RB, SB).

Pros and cons

Summarise and briefly evaluate the vehicle in terms of its characteristics and combat effectiveness. Mark its pros and cons in the bulleted list. Try not to use more than 6 points for each of the characteristics. Avoid using categorical definitions such as "bad", "good" and the like - use substitutions with softer forms such as "inadequate" and "effective".

Cons:

History

Describe the history of the creation and combat usage of the aircraft in more detail than in the introduction. If the historical reference turns out to be too long, take it to a separate article, taking a link to the article about the vehicle and adding a block "/History" (example: https://wiki.warthunder.com/(Vehicle-name)/History) and add a link to it here using the main template. Be sure to reference text and sources by using <ref></ref>, as well as adding them at the end of the article with <references />. This section may also include the vehicle's dev blog entry (if applicable) and the in-game encyclopedia description (under === In-game description ===, also if applicable).

Media

Excellent additions to the article would be video guides, screenshots from the game, and photos.
