General info
| Rocket characteristics | |
|---|---|
| Mass | 11 kg |
| Maximum speed | 650 m/s |
| Explosive mass | 1.38 kg TNTeq |
| Warhead type | HEAT |
| Armour penetration | 420 mm |
Effective damage
The rocket has low explosive filler, but good amount of penetration, making it ideal for top attack. It will usually take out most MBTs with around 6 rockets. Light vehicles can be destroyed with 1 rocket if hit correctly.
Comparison with analogues
The FFAR Mighty Mouse is a comparable rocket, although it is 10mm smaller in caliber.
Usage in battles
The S-8KO rocket is effective against all ground targets thanks to its excellent penetration but requires precision due to the HEAT explosive warhead.
Pros and cons
Pros:
- Excellent penetration capability against armor
- 20 rockets per pod
Cons:
- Low explosive mass
History
The S-8 family of rockets was developed in response to the poor performance S-5 family of rockets. The S-8 is more powerful and accurate, while still small enough to allow the launch aircraft to carry a sizeable amount of rockets. There are around 16 known variants of the S-8 rockets, some examples of the variants are: S-8P and S-8PM (chaff rockets), S-8S (fléchette in bundles of 5 containing 2000 each), S-8DM and S-8DF (FAE). All of the variants of S-8 can be used on most aerial platforms that can mount unguided rockets.
Media
Excellent additions to the article would be video guides, screenshots from the game, and photos.
