The first mission for the T22 was to escort the Italian cargo ship SS Cortellazzo on a blockade running mission from Bordeaux through the Bay of Biscay on November 29, 1942, accompanied by three other torpedo boats. While the T22's first mission would proceed without incident, the second mission was not as uneventful.
