=== Machine guns ===
''Offensive and anti-aircraft machine guns not only allow you to fight some aircraft but also are effective against lightly armoured vehicles. Evaluate machine guns and give recommendations on its use.''

== Usage in battles ==
''Describe the tactics of playing in the vehicle, the features of using vehicles in the team and advice on tactics. Refrain from creating a "guide" - do not impose a single point of view but instead give the reader food for thought. Describe the most dangerous enemies and give recommendations on fighting them. If necessary, note the specifics of the game in different modes (AB, RB, SB).''

=== Pros and cons ===
<!--''Summarise and briefly evaluate the vehicle in terms of its characteristics and combat effectiveness. Mark its pros and cons in a bulleted list. Try not to use more than 6 points for each of the characteristics. Avoid using categorical definitions such as "bad", "good" and the like - use substitutions with softer forms such as "inadequate" and "effective".''-->'''Pros:'''

* Deadly cannon provides superior one-shot capacity with any target upon penetration
* Powerful HEAT penetrates up to 250mm which is very effective in a full uptier. For example the early Centurions, Ferdinand, Tiger II H can all get penetrated with ease.
* The huge gun mantlet and its complex armor layout is capable of deflecting quite some shells sometimes.
* 30mm roof armor resists popular aircraft weapons well, like the 12.7mm M2 with ground target belt and the MG 151.
* All-round protection provides good resistance against flanking SPAAs. The M19 / M42 are very common flankers.

'''Cons:'''

* Long reload of more than 20 seconds and the rather curved trajectory demands very precise aiming, which isn't beginner friendly.
* Front armour is only 75mm and is not well angled. Gets penetrated easily by common guns at the BR, like the 76mm M1, 17 pdr, 75mm and 88mm.
* Closely packed crew all easily get killed when an explosive shell penetrates.
* Very inadequate gun depression of -3° combined with the sluggish mobility makes it only capable of fighting in urban (flat) areas, but never the hills.
* Turretless layout and the sluggish mobility makes it very vulnerable to surprise flankers, for example the infamous M18, T20, T25 and Puma.
* Gun breech often gets damaged while under enemy fire.

== History ==
<!--Describe the history of the creation and combat usage of the ground vehicle in more detail than in the introduction. If the historical reference turns out to be too big, take it to a separate article, taking a link to the article about the vehicle and adding a block "/ History" (example: <nowiki>https://wiki.warthunder.com/(Vehicle-name)/History</nowiki>) and add a link to it here using the <code>main</code> template. Be sure to reference text and sources by using <code><nowiki><ref></nowiki></code>, as well as adding them at the end of the article. This section may also include the vehicle's dev blog entry (if applicable) and the in-game encyclopedia description (under <code><nowiki>=== Encyclopedia Info ===</nowiki></code>, also if applicable).-->
===Development===
Development of the '''ISU-152''' already started alongside the [[SU-152]], its predecessor. The SU-152 was based off the KV-1S tank, which itself is a lighter version of the [[KV-1 (ZiS-5)|KV-1]] heavy tank. The vehicle, while highly praised in its performance, saw a need for modernization with the KV-1's phasing out of the Soviet's inventory and being replaced with the new [[IS-1|IS]] heavy tanks. The modernization process began on May 25, 1943, with the goal of using the IS tank as the basis of the vehicle and also increasing armour protection alongside other improvements. Development began in July under Joseph Yakovlevich Kotin, a chief designer of Soviet heavy tanks, who worked alongside G. N. Moskvin as the main designer. The designing of the improved vehicle went on for a month before the first variant was ready, designated the ''IS-152''. This was tested in September 1943, which revealed defects and deficiencies with the design, so it was redone into a second variant called ''Object 241'' in October 1943. Trials began on ''Object 241'', which was successful through the factory and state trials and adopted on November 6, 1943, as the '''ISU-152'''. Production began in December at the Chelyabinsk Kirovsk Plant, producing 3,242 units from then all the way until 1947, with 1,885 units made by the end of World War II.

===Design===
The ISU-152 was the successor to the SU-152, retaining the same 152 mm ML-20S howitzer needed to destroy enemy fortifications in offensive operations. The vehicle was run on a torsion-bar suspension system from the [[IS-2|IS]] tank chassis. The crew consists of four or five men in the vehicle, the optional crew member being a loader. The crew had external views through periscopes and two gun sights, a panoramic and a telescopic one. Crew communication was possible with an intercom system and a 10R or 10RK radio was available to communicate between vehicles. The crew had access to two PPSh submachine guns and grenades in the tank to defend themselves against infantry.

A drawback to the vehicle's design was the gun ammunition and internal storage. The large ammunition pieces were limited to about 20 rounds in the vehicle, and each round was extremely heavy and large that reloading the tank can take up to 40 minutes and lots of strength. Rate of fire was also reduced by the ammunition's heavyweight.
{{Break}}
The '''{{Specs|name}}''' is a rank {{Specs|rank}} Chinese medium tank {{Battle-rating}}. It was introduced in [[Update 1.91 "Night Vision"]].

== General info ==
=== Survivability and armour ===
<!-- ''Describe armour protection. Note the most well protected and key weak areas. Appreciate the layout of modules as well as the number and location of crew members. Is the level of armour protection sufficient, is the placement of modules helpful for survival in combat? If necessary use a visual template to indicate the most secure and weak zones of the armour.'' -->
The armour layout of the M4A1 (75) W is identical to that of [[M4A1 (76) W]], turret- and hull-wise. Taking out a M4A1 (75) W is not a difficult task to do for most cannons it will face. It can take a few hits from Pz IIIs that are equipped with [[KwK39 (50 mm)]], Shermans equipped with [[M3 (75 mm)]] and T-34 and KV-1's equipped with the [[L-11 (76 mm)]] that will have a difficulty for reliable penetration on the M4A1 (75) W's armour. Meanwhile most guns above 3.7 battle rating will penetrate the armour with ease. However, even up-gunned tanks can have a hard time penetrating it with the sloped armour the M4A1 models are shaped with.

=== Mobility ===
<!-- ''Write about the mobility of the ground vehicle. Estimate the specific power and manoeuvrability, as well as the maximum speed forwards and backwards.'' -->

{{tankMobility|abMinHp= 713|rbMinHp= 407}}

The {{PAGENAME}} has got a decent speed of 38 km/h (42 km/h AB), with a relative bad acceleration that makes it an easy prey for enemy vehicles when it have just started its movement. The reverse speed of 4 km/h (5 km/h AB) would make it important to not peek too much outside of cover. Even though it have a relative bad acceleration, it can still move its hull relative fast to throw off incoming shells. The narrow tracks on the tank gives it a hard time to get a good grip on soft soil when in movement, making movement more efficient when on solid ground or road when wanting to move it around.

== Armaments ==
=== Main armament ===
<!-- ''Give the reader information about the characteristics of the main gun. Assess its effectiveness in a battle based on the reloading speed, ballistics and the power of shells. Do not forget about the flexibility of the fire, that is how quickly the cannon can be aimed at the target, open fire on it and aim at another enemy. Add a link to the main article on the gun: <code><nowiki>{main|Name of the weapon}</nowiki></code>. Describe in general terms the ammunition available for the main gun. Give advice on how to use them and how to fill the ammunition storage.'' -->
Refrain from creating a "guide" - do not impose a single point of view but instead give the reader food for thought. Describe the most dangerous enemies and give recommendations on fighting them. If necessary, note the specifics of the game in different modes (AB, RB, SB).-->

Similar to the other 75mm Sherman's at battle rating 3.7, it got a decent gun to take out most enemy opponent even when uptiered, The tank can handle itself by itself against enemies, but it's never a problem to work with your team in it, cover your allies when they are moving forward. The M4A1 (75) W has advantages over the Soviet T-34, Japanese Chi-Nu and German Pz III/IV by having a early stabilizer that makes short stop and shooting faster, but facing US or British M4's can be a problematic since they share similar armour and gun. While rival M4 tanks would not be a threat to a seasoned player, they can prove a nuisance to beginners.

The M4A1 (75) W has got an effective frontal armour for most common enemies you will face between battle ratings 2.7 to 3.7 in a downtier, but the armour is relative weak against some battle rating 3.7 to most 4.7 enemies that can be faced in an uptier. Enemies that should be prioritized in deadliness are mainly tank destroyers like the M10, Achilles, Jagdpanzer's and SU-85 since their guns will slice the M4A1's armour like butter and demolish the tank, while the tank destroyers can be difficult to take out with the M4A1's 75 mm cannon from the front. Other enemies to also seek out as priority targets are KV-1/2, Panzer IV's with a long 75mm, Panzer III's with long 50mm and M4A1 (76) W as their armaments can be devastating to the M4A1 (75) W's armour.

When facing these dangerous enemies, it is best to move around them and flank their sides, especially since these vehicles like the Jagdpanzer IV's have thick enough sloped armour that makes the 75mm M3 inefficient against the front plate. The M4A1's slow acceleration can make this a difficult task to do in Realistic Battle, but it will be easier in Arcade with the enhanced engine power, so it's easier to flank enemies.
=== Pros and cons ===
<!-- ''Summarise and briefly evaluate the vehicle in terms of its characteristics and combat effectiveness. Mark its pros and cons in a bulleted list. Try not to use more than 6 points for each of the characteristics. Avoid using categorical definitions such as "bad", "good" and the like - use substitutions with softer forms such as "inadequate" and "effective".'' -->

'''Pros:'''

* Sloped hull armour and thick frontal turret can deflect quite some shells sometimes.
* APCBC shell is pretty effective against common opponents like the Pz.IV series and early Shermans.
* Vertical stabiliser allows the tank to fire on the move, or shoot first in a sudden encounter.
* Fast turret traverse, easily deal with enemies from multiple directions.
* Relatively fast reload of about 5 seconds.
* Great mountain warfare capacities due to its 10° gun depression and 90+mm gun mantlet.
* HMG can effectively damage light vehicles (M18, VFW) or low-flying aircraft.
* Wet ammo stowage reduces chance of being ammo-racked

'''Cons:'''

* Narrow tracks give it awkward turning speed.
* 38 mm side is weak, even rank I vehicles can penetrate
* Short gun creates low shell velocity and curved trajectory. Requires better aiming at long range or with moving targets
* High profile compared to other medium tanks it faces
* Armour can't resist tanks like [[Pz.IV G]] or 76mm Sherman

'''Pros:'''

* Excellent firepower against both planes and tanks. Cannons have very high firerate and good traverse. The HE can critically damage lots of aircraft with a few hits, if not destroying it straight away. The AP, with its 63mm penetration, can frontally go through Chi-Nu, M24, Pz.IV F and StuG III F, or penetrate the sides of M4 Sherman and Cromwell.
* Great -10 degrees gun depression allows sneaky shots in hilly terrains
* High top speed allows it to get to positions in time. It is faster than some medium tanks like the early M4
* Thin armor can lead to some shells over-penetrating without detonation (eg. 122mm)
* Huge gap behind the driving compartment and below the turret can absorb plenty of shells.
* Great gunsight magnification allows easy snipes from long range.

'''Cons:'''

* Very poor survivaility due to its light armor and open-topped turret. Can die from strafing aircraft, artillery or .50 cal MG. Vulnerable to SPAAs like the M16 and Wirbelwind.
* Extremely long reload time of 30 seconds makes it vulnerable and defenseless when reloading. It also cannot change belt types quickly due to the reload.
* High profile makes it easier to get spotted and shot at.
* Requires precise shots since the firerate can empty the magazine quickly and the reload is very long.
* AP is still not enough to penetrate heavy targets like the KV I C and Pz.kpfw. Churchill

{{Break}}
The '''{{Specs|name}}''' is a gift rank {{Specs|rank}} British tank destroyer {{Battle-rating}}. It was introduced in [[Update 1.97 "Viking Fury"]].

== General info ==
=== Survivability and armour ===
<!--Describe armour protection. Note the most well protected and key weak areas. Appreciate the layout of modules as well as the number and location of crew members. Is the level of armour protection sufficient, is the placement of modules helpful for survival in combat? If necessary use a visual template to indicate the most secure and weak zones of the armour.-->
Survivability is extremely poor.

The armor thickness ranges from 15 mm on the sides of the lower front plate to 30 mm near the gun breach of rolled homogenous armor. This will protect the crew from small arms fire only, most 20 mm guns and above can penetrate the armor with relative ease. HEAT shells will almost always hull-break the vehicle.

Wheels and suspension arms are made from 10 mm of structural steel.

The internal modules are relatively far apart and create a rather big empty space in the center of the vehicle. This gives it a small chance to survive APDS shells from the side when the turret is turned 90 degrees to either side, when the turret is pointed forward or backward, it fills this space with the ready ammo rack. Ammunition is also stored in the upper sides of the hull, as well as the rear of the turret.

The driver sits alone in the front of the vehicle while the commander, gunner and loader are placed rather high in the vehicle. This gives the turret crew a decent chance to survive side hits to the hull. A hit on the lower plate's left side (viewed from the front) will most likely kill the gunner, commander and driver and therefore destroy the vehicle.

It is possible to block some APDS shells with the gun breech or the engine and transmission, but most higher caliber shells will hull-break the vehicle instead.

=== Mobility ===
<!-- ''Write about the mobility of the ground vehicle. Estimate the specific power and manoeuvrability, as well as the maximum speed forwards and backwards.'' -->
Mobility is extremely good. The engine will propel the vehicle to 131 km/h (AB) / 120 km/h (RB/SB) maximum on roads, though the average speed is around 40 to 65 km/h in light terrain, but acceleration is relatively poor. The wheeled chassis will allow to turn the vehicle without losing too much speed, though turning on the spot is not possible. When crossing deep snow or sand the driver sometimes can't decide which gear to use and the vehicle will be stuck at the speed of that specific gear change even if it potentially has the power to go faster.

{{tankMobility|abMinHp= 805|rbMinHp= 501}}

== Armaments ==
=== Main armament ===
<!--Give the reader information about the characteristics of the main gun. Assess its effectiveness in a battle based on the reloading speed, ballistics and the power of shells. Do not forget about the flexibility of the fire, that is how quickly the cannon can be aimed at the target, open fire on it and aim at another enemy. Add a link to the main article on the gun: <code><nowiki>{{main|Name of the weapon}}</nowiki></code>. Describe in general terms the ammunition available for the main gun. Advise about how to use them and how to fill the ammunition storage.-->
{{main|GT-7 (105 mm)}}

The vehicle is armed with the South African GT-7 105 mm rifled cannon, which is almost identical to the L7A3 used on the German Leopard and Leopard A1A1. It gets the same ammunition choices of DM12 HEATFS, DM502 HESH and DM23 APDSFS as well as the same reload speed. == History ==
An upgrade and redesign program was launched by Reumech OMC in 1990 for use internationally. This led to the development Rooikat 105 prototype with the GT-7 105mm rifled cannon. The Rooikat was made for high mobility operations taking place in both day and night. It was equipped with night vision and thermal imagery equipment for operations taking place in the dark of night. The gun used in the Rooikat 105 is the GT-7 105mm rifled anti-tank gun. It fires a range of NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) tank shells including HEATFS, HESH and APFSDS (high explosive anti-tank fin stabilised shot, high explosive squash head and armour piercing fin stabilised discarding shot rounds respectively). This gun can fire up to 6 rounds a minute (about 10 second reload). On the real version, there are two 7.62 machine guns for anti-infantry and anti-air, one in the turret and one in the commander's position. War Thunder's version only has one, the one in the turret. There are 4 smoke grenades on each side of the turret in a smoke screen configuration and the ability to use an exhaust generator. Automatic data input includes the laser rangefinder that can calculate the range of a target as well as the speed, direction of travel, wind speed, wind direction and weapon tilt. Manual data input only includes the ammunition type and the environment of its surroundings. The weapon system allows the Rooikat 105 to attack targets while on the move on rough terrain. The most complex systems of the Rooikat 105 are the gun stabiliser, the gunner's stabilised sight, the gunner's sight with night vision and the commander's individual panoramic sight.
{{Break}}
The '''{{Specs|name}}''' is a gift rank {{Specs|rank}} British tank destroyer {{Battle-rating}}. It was introduced in [[Update 1.97 "Viking Fury"]].

== General info ==
=== Survivability and armour ===

=== Mobility ===

{{tankMobility|abMinHp= 805|rbMinHp= 501}}

== Armaments ==
=== Main armament ===
{{main|GT-7 (105 mm)}}

The HEATFS and APDSFS can easily deal with most enemies presented at its battle-rating, exceptions are some late heavy tanks like the Object 279 or uparmored tanks like the T-55AM-1. The HESH is very situational, but might be good for light-skinned vehicles or helicopters. It is usually best to mostly take APDSFS shells, since it can easily handle every vehicle type, but unlike HEATFS doesn't detonate on bushes or fences and isn't stopped by ERA.

=== Additional armament ===
''Some tanks are armed with several guns in one or more turrets. Evaluate the additional weaponry and give advice on its use. Describe the ammunition available for additional weaponry. Give advice on about how to use them and how to fill the ammunition storage. If there is no additional weaponry remove this subsection.''

=== Machine guns ===
''Offensive and anti-aircraft machine guns not only allow you to fight some aircraft but also are effective against lightly armoured vehicles. Evaluate machine guns and give recommendations on its use.''

== Usage in battles ==

=== Pros and cons ===
''Summarise and briefly evaluate the vehicle in terms of its characteristics and combat effectiveness. Mark its pros and cons in a bulleted list. The smoke grenades form a dense protective smoke screen, which can be sustained using an exhaust smoke generator. The digital fire control system takes data from a suite of sensors and provides an automatic fire control solution. Automatic data input includes target range from a laser rangefinder, target speed and direction derived from tracking the target, crosswind speed, weapon tilt and the characteristics of the weapon. Manual data input includes ammunition type and environmental data. The fire control system allows the Rooikat to engage enemy targets while on the move across rough terrain. The time between laser ranging the target and firing is approximately two seconds. Three variations of fire directing systems are offered. The most complex system incorporates a primary stabilised gunner's sight, automatic computation and implementation of ballistic offset of the weapon, electro-mechanical gun control, stabilised main weapon, gunner's sight with day / night channel slaved to the main weapon and an independent panoramic commander's sight.
{{Break}}
The '''{{Specs|name}}''' is a gift rank {{Specs|rank}} British tank destroyer {{Battle-rating}}. It was introduced in [[Update 1.97 "Viking Fury"]].

== General info ==
=== Survivability and armour ===

=== Mobility ===

{{tankMobility|abMinHp= 805|rbMinHp= 501}}

== Armaments ==
=== Main armament ===
{{main|GT-7 (105 mm)}}

=== Additional armament ===
''Some tanks are armed with several guns in one or more turrets. Evaluate the additional weaponry and give advice on its use. Describe the ammunition available for additional weaponry. Give advice on about how to use them and how to fill the ammunition storage. If there is no additional weaponry remove this subsection.''

=== Machine guns ===
''Offensive and anti-aircraft machine guns not only allow you to fight some aircraft but also are effective against lightly armoured vehicles. Evaluate machine guns and give recommendations on its use.''

== Usage in battles ==

=== Pros and cons ===
''Summarise and briefly evaluate the vehicle in terms of its characteristics and combat effectiveness. Mark its pros and cons in a bulleted list. Try not to use more than 6 points for each of the characteristics. Avoid using categorical definitions such as "bad", "good" and the like - use substitutions with softer forms such as "inadequate" and "effective".''
== History ==
In 1990 an upgrade and redesign programme was started by Reumech OMC to customise the Rooikat for the international market, and by 1994 the development of a Rooikat 105 prototype with a 105mm rifled gun was completed.

The Rooikat 105 is designed for high mobility day and night combat operations. Passive image intensifiers and thermal imaging equipment for night driving, navigation and weapon deployment permit round-the-clock combat operations. The Rooikat 105 is equipped with a GT7 105mm anti-tank gun. The gun fires the full range of NATO full-pressure 105mm ammunition including generation I, II and III rounds. The gun, fitted with a 51-caliber thermal sleeve encased barrel, fires six rounds a minute. There are two 7.62mm machine guns, one co-axial to the main armament and one at the commander's position, for general purpose ground and air defence. The vehicle is equipped with two banks of 81mm smoke grenade launchers, mounted in a forward firing position on each side of the turret. The system is electrically operated.
