But does it really have optical system?
Tried to find any information on its passive optical tracking system mentioned in patch notes, but so far my conclusion is that It uses radar by default for both search and tracking and is clearly visible to helis during it.

Perhaps if it shut down the radar player can manually lock onto things with sniper scope to do optical lock-on? Or change radar mode to do optical?

Browsed a multitude of media, but found no evidence (even accidental) of it existing on it so far. It seems not a lot of people even tried to look for it, though helis hate ADATS with passion and it could help against them. Strange.

:The ADATS uses a search radar, but has infared tracking (at least that is what is modelled in game). If you have the search radar on then helis will see you because it is a radar. You should in theory be able to lock onto a target and not be detected if the search radar is turned off, although not tested this in game.

Plane ramming hullbreak
Sort of curious of "hull break" mentioned in pros/cons. It seem to me, that it was related to the bug, which allowed bombers to detonate their own bombs by crashing into them in AB, just in this case it probably was missiles on top of the rack, that detonated. Plus I remember people telling it doesn't even have hull break for some reason. Or is it a separate thing just for this tank? Not sure.

The name is a rank rank American tank destroyer Battle-rating. It was introduced in Update 1.89 "Imperial Navy".

The XM1069 is essentially an M3 Bradley with a heavily modified turret. The crew was moved away from the turret and controls it via interface in the back of the tank. The turret is fully automatic and now carries two enormous missile racks, a radar and the same old gun is tweaked to fire three times faster.

While designations for this tank go all over the place, the XM1069 can be simply called a multi-purpose tank, as it can fight fast jets and heavier tanks alike with missiles, while dealing with lightly armoured tanks and slower aircraft by using a gun and/or missiles.

General info
Survivability and armour
Specs-Tank-Armour
<!-- Describe armour protection. Note the most well protected and key weak areas. Appreciate the layout of modules as well as the number and location of crew members. Is the level of armour protection sufficient, is the placement of modules helpful for survival in combat? If necessary use a visual template to indicate the most secure and weak zones of the armour. -->
The ADATS boasts the same protection as the regular M3 Bradley hull-wise, with one key difference being that the side armour is thinner by 19 mm. High-calibre machine guns such as the 20 mm on French MBTs will easily penetrate the sides and at times even the front part of the hull. It's not advisable to use the ADATS as a front-line vehicle but rather as a second-line support vehicle by setting up in key-points around maps.

The XM1069 has a completely unmanned turret, meaning that any armour-piercing shells will over-penetrate with no injuries to the crew at all (be aware that explosive shells can cause the missiles to explode and instantly destroy the vehicle). However, two autocannon ammo racks are in the top of the unmanned turret and a few fragments are sufficient to detonate them and blow your whole crew up. The three crew members are situated in the hull with a massive empty space between the loader/gunner and the driver when approached from the side. Every enemy you face will most likely over-penetrate that section and do minimal damage to the vehicle itself.

Overall, the XM1069 can be quite a 'meme' vehicle as it can sometimes sustain 5-7 direct hits even centre-hull, seeing as most rounds just pierce and exit the armour without generating shrapnel, over-penetrating and forcing enemies to snipe for crew members.
M242 (25 mm)

The main armament of the XM1069 is the M242 25 mm automatic cannon, the same as found on the M3 Bradley, but enjoys a faster rate of fire (500 rounds per minute, compared to the Bradley's 201 rounds per minute). When stock, like most AA vehicles, it starts with a belt of equal parts armour-piercing and high-explosive, though it is worth mentioning the AP rounds are sabot rounds with 101 mm of penetration at 100 m against flat armour. This allows it to easily and effectively take on both air and ground threats simultaneously without needing to worry about ammunition costs. However, should you wish to use this vehicle in a dedicated anti-aircraft role, you can unlock a belt with three parts HE to one AP in Tier I modifications. This must be unlocked in order to unlock M791, the AP belt. With this belt, dealing with any and all lightly armoured vehicles and even quite a few of the MBTs is possible from the side. In regards to how much you should take, you may as well take a full ammunition load. At any range, this vehicle can and will be penetrated by any vehicle that looks in its general direction, so it's not like your armour is going to stop you from being ammo-racked by fin-stabilized sabot anyway. Also, due to the cannon's rather high rate of fire and ammunition count of 600 rounds, it's worth taking as much as you can carry.
MIM146

The secondary armament of the XM1069 (or primary, depending on how you choose to play it) are the MIM146 ADATS beam-riding dual-purpose guided missiles. You can effectively use these against any target you can point them at, due to the facts that they air-burst the aircraft within 6 m of trigger radius, usually one-hit killing them with the 7.86 kg of TNT equivalent, and have 900 mm of penetration against armoured targets. With a velocity of 1,027 m/s, aiming these things and tracking moving targets isn't an issue whatsoever. You point, you click, and the target usually dies in a single hit. In the event that, by some miracle of God himself, the target persists in clinging to their life, you can fire the MIM146 as fast as you'd like to, meaning follow-up shots are quick and easy, and with the aforementioned 900 mm of penetration, anything you shoot these at will be penetrated, unless the angle of impact is extreme.

The high velocity, brilliant 10 km of effective range, and good 35 G of maximum overload make the MIM146 very efficient to catch high-speed jets even when they are evading. It never leaves any vapor trail and smoke in its path, and its long exhaust plume disappears a few seconds after launch. The XM1069 has the capability to guide multiple MIM146s if fired in quick succession, due to the beam-riding guidance of the MIM-146. However, the MIM-146 cannot be fired whilst in motion. Two launchers are a bit spread out, and the first 4 shots will launch from the left one. Remember to check whether your next missile might get blocked by the cover or not so you won't waste any of them.
Radars
As an dual-purpose ATGM carrier, the XM1069 is equipped with an ADATS Search Radar and an electro-optical/infrared tracking system with TV and Forward Looking Infrared. The search radar is mounted on top of the turret at the rear and the barrel-like tracking optics is located at the front of the turret. The search radar has a brilliant 25 km of maximum detection range and can switch to 10 km, which is exactly the effective range of the MIM146. However, its vertical scanning elevation of 18 degrees is quite limited, making trouble to detect those jets that chose to opt for a very high entrance altitude. The lock from the electro-optical tracker shows the distance and the relative velocity of the target, not triggering the LWS of the locked hostile aircraft which gives it the advantage to fight modern jets compared to other top-tier SPAAs. However, you will heavily rely on thermal weapon sight to find the hostile aircraft because the electro-optical tracker can't automatically lock the target in your plan position indicator.
<!-- Describe the tactics of playing in the vehicle, the features of using vehicles in the team and advice on tactics. Refrain from creating a "guide" - do not impose a single point of view but instead give the reader food for thought.
Stock Gameplay:

As with any vehicle, the XM1069 finds itself at a disadvantage while stock. Without access to the thermal vision devices, players will need to be more alert in order to spot enemies. While other modifications like artillery or smoke grenades can be helpful, the lack of thermals is a much larger issue. However the ADATS is relatively well off stock compared to most high tier vehicles, as the stock 25 mm belts include APDS rounds, and the radar is capable of spotting air targets for you.

Spaded Gameplay:

The XM1069 is an excellent multi-purpose support vehicle when spaded. Being able to target both enemy tanks and enemy aircraft, it can be a great tool for the team. However, there are some limitations to the vehicle, namely the low missile count and lack of armour. While survivability is decent due to the empty turret, the armour is very thin and the missiles can sometimes explode when hit. This means that the XM1069 does best sitting behind friendly tanks, in a support role. Additionally the missiles can run out quickly, as there are only 8 to engage both air and ground targets. XM1069 players should try and conserve their missiles, as they are versatile, yet limited in quantity.

Close Range Engagements:

The XM1069 is capable at close range, but is still extremely vulnerable to enemy fire. The 25 mm bushmaster autocannon can penetrate the side armour of most enemy tanks with APDS rounds, but it will not disable the enemy as quickly as their large cannons are capable of killing the XM1069. The MIM-146 ADATS missiles can be useful at close range as well, with rapid ripple capability to ensure a wasteful, yet quick dispatch of most ground vehicles.

Long Range Engagements:

The XM1069 is more capable at long range, where it can rely on thermal vision and the very fast ADATS missiles to disable enemy targets. The only issue at long range is the low amount of missiles, so shots should be taken with care. Additionally, the ADATS can be quickly disabled if the hull is exposed, so staying hull down is advised. The radar should also be turned off and on as needed, as it provides a good indicator of where you are for enemy ground vehicles, but is very useful in spotting air targets.

Gameplay summary:

The XM1069 is an excellent support vehicle, able to defend teammates from both enemy air and ground threats. The MIM-146 ADATS missiles are excellent at disabling any target, although the low ammo count should be considered. The XM1069 is also capable of locking an enemy aircraft without alerting their RWR, by turning off the radar. One must take excellent care in their method of positioning. The XM1069 has a playstyle similar to the M3 Bradley if you choose to use it against ground vehicles.

Pros and cons
<!-- Summarise and briefly evaluate the vehicle in terms of its characteristics and combat effectiveness. Mark its pros and cons in a bulleted list. Try not to use more than 6 points for each of the characteristics. Avoid using categorical definitions such as "bad", "good" and the like - use substitutions with softer forms such as "inadequate" and "effective". -->

Pros:

* Has access to 8 x fast multi-purpose missiles, can efficiently and swiftly eliminate both aircraft and tanks without reloading
* Missiles can penetrate up to 900 mm of armour and can cause overpressure with 7.9 kg TNT equivalent
* High rate of fire 25 mm cannon with good APDS for ground targets and HE ammunition for use against air targets
** Can fire 131 rounds before overheating
* Gunner operates the turret and weapons from behind protective hull instead of being in the turret itself
* Built on the chassis of M3 Bradley- good mobility and acceptable armour
* Modifications are researched fairly quickly
* Effective radar with good range
* Can lock on to aircraft with the radar disabled as the XM1069 tracks using an electro-optical/infrared targeting system, making sneak attacks easy
* Missiles can even be fired without lock on and retain their proximity fuse against aircraft

Cons:
* Thin armour is not effective against larger cannons and bullets from jets
* High profile makes it hard to conceal, it is easily spotted
* The three crew members are all situated within the hull, and can all be rendered unconscious if a shot penetrates the hull
* The 25 mm autocannon cannot reliably penetrate MBTs frontally
* The missiles and autocannon ammos are volatile and easy to get aimed at, especially in hull-down battles
* Lack of stabilizer makes firing on the move difficult and increases the time to aim the weapons when suddenly braking
* No commander fire control
* Vulnerable to the overpressure mechanic
* ERA defeats the MIM146 ATGM
* Requires the player to actually find and look at the intended aircraft to lock-on
The ADATS was developed at the end of the 1980s as a general-purpose weapon capable of bringing down low-flying airborne targets as well as armoured opponents. Hence the abbreviation: Air Defence Anti-Tank System. The system was comprised of radar for detecting and tracking targets, a complex radio kit for coordinating multiple vehicles, and eight MIM-146 guided missiles in transport and launch containers. The US Army version, the XM1069, was built on the Bradley IFV chassis and fitted with a 25 mm autocannon. Notwithstanding the fact that it was selected after a US Army competition for the Forward Area Air-Defence program, it was found to be excessively expensive to manufacture and never made it to serial production on the Bradley chassis.

* No commander fire control

Bofors L/60 Mark 1 (40 mm)

The LCS(L)(3) gets access to four 40 mm Bofors guns in two twin mounts. These weapons are extremely potent anti-aircraft and anti-coastal-ship guns due to their accuracy and punching power. Though these weapons fire slower than the 20 mm Oerlikon or 12.7 mm AN/M2, they more than make up for it due to their hard-hitting 40 mm shells. These guns are capable of shredding aircraft and small boats from ranges of 2.5 km away, though effectiveness will drop off after that range due to the large bullet drop. The guns fire from 4-round clips that reload continuously, meaning that they are capable of continuous fire. However, note that they will eventually jam after firing too long.

Secondary armament
Specs-Fleet-Secondary
<!-- Some ships are fitted with weapons of various calibres. Secondary armaments are defined as weapons chosen with the control <code>Select secondary weapon</code>. Evaluate the secondary armaments and give advice on how to use them. Describe the ammunition available for the secondary armament. Provide recommendations on how to use them and which ammunition to choose. Remember that any anti-air armament, even heavy calibre weapons, belong in the next section. If there is no secondary armament, remove this section. -->
3-inch Mark 10 (76 mm)

The LCS(L)(3) has access to a single 76 mm Mk 10 gun as its secondary armament. The Mk 10 gun is a decent secondary armament, being capable of crippling or outright destroying many coastal ships with a single hit. However, this gun is a early version and lacks the full automatic fire of later American 76 mm cannons. The gun gets access to three shells - HE, AP and HE-VT. Of these shells, the HE shell is almost always the best choice, packing the largest punch against enemy boats. Despite this, it is wise to bring a bit of the other shells, for use against aircraft and armoured vessels.

Anti-aircraft armament
Specs-Fleet-AA
<!-- An important part of the ship's armament responsible for air defence. Anti-aircraft armament is defined by the weapon chosen with the control <code>Select anti-aircraft weapons</code>. Talk about the ship's anti-air cannons and machine guns, the number of guns and their positions, their effective range, and about their overall effectiveness – including against surface targets. If there are no anti-aircraft armaments, remove this section. -->
20 mm/70 Oerlikon Mk.II (20 mm)

The LCS(L)(3) has access to four dual 20 mm Oerlikon cannons. The 20 mm Oerlikon Cannon was the standard light anti-aircraft gun for several nations, including the United States, and replaced the prior AN/M2 Browning machine gun. This weapon is an effective short-range AA gun, and has great firing angles. The guns fire from a drum magazine that will need to be reloaded. Because of the magazine design, the gun will not jam with continuous fire.

Usage in battles
Describe the technique of using this ship, the characteristics of her use in a team and tips on strategy. Abstain from writing an entire guide – don't try to provide a single point of view, but give the reader food for thought. Talk about the most dangerous opponents for this vehicle and provide recommendations on fighting them. If necessary, note the specifics of playing with this vehicle in various modes (AB, RB, SB).

Pros and cons
<!-- Summarise and briefly evaluate the vehicle in terms of its characteristics and combat effectiveness. Mark its pros and cons in the bulleted list. Try not to use more than 6 points for each of the characteristics. Avoid using categorical definitions such as "bad", "good" and the like - use substitutions with softer forms such as "inadequate" and "effective". -->

Pros:

* Two twin mounted 40 mm guns can decimate small vessels and torpedo boats
* Secondary 76 mm gun has VT-fuse shell. If you use it correctly, you could counter enemy trying to drop the torpedo/heavy bomber
* Decent crew count, able to resist small vessels
* Does not hull break

Cons:

* Rather sluggish, the slowest boat in its rank, on par with SF40, torpedo and bomber is a large threat
* Wooden structure, very vulnerable to fire, the crew get knocked out quickly if you are on fire

History
During World War II, the American military took a big gamble on landing naval infantry and armour – the Americans used the strategy of quickly capturing coastline using landing ships in all three theaters of war. The landing ships and boats themselves had light armaments and could not fully cover their marines during landings, so the question arose about the creation of a small maneuverable gunboat with enough firepower to support naval landings against enemy infantry, lightly armoured fortifications and fire positions. The LCI (Landing Craft Infantry) designs were used as a basis, with the addition of a 76 mm gun with an armour screen, two twin 40 mm cannons and four twin 20 mm machine guns. The powertrain remained the same as on the LCI – two sets of four engines with 225 hp each, with a total power output of 1800 hp. The artillery ship's maximum speed was 16 knots. The gunboat was designated LCS (L) – Landing Craft Support (Large). It took just 10 days to prepare such a ship from the landing platform. It could escort its landing party and support it with fire along the coast, and work as an anti-aircraft vessel or provide a smokescreen for the actions of larger ships. The LCS gunboat's baptism of fire was in the battle for Okinawa. It was later used in operations on the Pacific Ocean. After the end of World War II, the US used these ships in the Korean War and Vietnam, and provided them to allies.
The name (or the pseudonym, unofficially the Wolverine) is a rank rank American tank destroyer Battle-rating. It was introduced in Update 1.49 "Weapons of Victory".

The M10 GMC takes much from the M4A2 Sherman which it was derived from. The drivetrain is identical with the drive shaft running from the engine in the rear to the front transmission and sprockets. The hull is sloped to a larger degree. The 3-inch (76 mm) cannon originally mounted on the experimental M6 Heavy Tank lacks the muzzle brake of the 76 mm M1A2 gun used on the later Rank III Sherman's and the M18 Hellcat. The turret is a pentagonal shaped M5 Mount type.
|-
Notes:

* Suspensions wheels are 20 mm thick, bogies are 10 mm thick, and tracks are 20 mm thick.
* Belly armour is 12.7 mm thick.
* Hull rear sides are protected by attached grousers that give 20 mm of extra armour.

The armour of the M10 is quite decent for the rank and can make shells ricochet when angled properly, but nonetheless, the armour is not thick enough to resist the stronger tank weapons of Rank II. The thickest part of the front hull is the 51 mm lower plate and the upper plate is 38 mm, though both are sloping at 55 degrees from vertical. The sides and back are only 19 mm slightly angled and thus can be penetrated by most weapons stronger than a 12.7 mm machine gun. This fact is made worse by the positioning of ammo racks on the sides, making it easy to one-shot the M10 with a side penetration. The turret has slightly better armour with the gun mantlet having 57 mm angled at 45 degrees on the front, but it is still very weak on the sides and back. The front of the turret can often eat shells as the shell will fragment on the initial armour, and the massive breech of the 76mm cannon will often absorb most if not all of the spalling, leaving the turret crew untouched. This will take the M10 out of combat, but when backed up by team-mates it is possible to reverse away to repair. The turrets top is exposed and because of that artillery barrages and HE shells are much more lethal to the crew. One should avoid angling the armour a great degree as it may expose the weaker side armour at a more perpendicular angle.

For those fighting the M10 from the front, firing towards the upper left side of the hull glacis (towards the right from the firing perspective) will be able to knock out both the driver and/or gunner if the shot penetrates in the right angle. If this does not completely destroy the tank, it certainly has crippled it and the follow-up shot should go towards the opposite side to knock out the rest of the crew. Repeat if necessary in cases where the crews are still active inside the tank. It is also a good idea to shoot the bottom of the hull to disable the transmission if the M10 is trying to flee.

The M10's side is lined with ammo racks and it's extremely easy to one-shot the tank. Simply aim below the turret, shoot the side and the ammo should explode in a blaze of glory. If the ammo does not explode the first time, then try shooting the same spot again or aim more to the front of the hull to knock out any remaining crew. It is possible to blow up the fuel tanks or set it on fire by shooting the rear of the M10, the worse case at least the engine will be disabled.

There is not a whole lot of places to shoot at the back of the M10, though a shot at the turret can knock out the turret crew or a shot in the hull can cripple the engine. Two ammo racks are present at the rear of the turret, but these racks are most likely empty as 1) They are the first two to run dry and 2) Players will usually keep this empty with reduced ammo load. The best place to shoot in the rear would be the engine to immobilize the M10 and potentially set it on fire.

Mobility
<!-- Write about the mobility of the ground vehicle. Estimate the specific power and manoeuvrability, as well as the maximum speed forwards and backwards. -->

The PAGENAME has roughly the same mobility characteristics as the M4 Sherman. Spaded, the tank moves surprisingly fast in a straight line, but the turning speed is a bit sluggish as well as the reverse speed. The PAGENAME struggles while driving on inclines due to its narrow tracks. All in all the PAGENAME's mobility is moderate and it can get to its location reasonably fast.
M7 (76 mm)

The 3-inch (76 mm) cannon is a wonderful and powerful gun. APCBC ammo can penetrate any tank on the battlefield even from long range. The M10 also has AP ammo with no explosive filler that has inferior penetration and does less post-penetration damage. Because APCBC has superior penetration, and better post-penetration effects, the AP ammo is essentially useless and is not recommended to take, or use in any situation. It is not a bad idea to carry a few HE shells as well to fight lightly armoured and open top tanks like the M16 SPAA. The powerful gun and potent ammunition make the M10 a good sniper vehicle at its battle rating, especially with its -10° gun depression, giving the M10 the ability to maximize a hull-down position. Unfortunately, even though this tank destroyer does feature a turret, its turret rotation speed is extremely slow (< 4.0°/s) due to its historic configuration of only possessing a hand crank for the turret traverse. It is possible to crest a ridge and watch as the enemy rotates their turret, takes aim, and shoots the M10, all while the latter is rotating its turret into position. Thus, it is better to see it as a regular fragile SPG instead of a turreted SPG and fight from a distance and in possible concealment. Take warning that the gun's excellent penetration is too much for lower rank tanks and can lead to over-penetration, thus dealing less or even no damage to the enemy. Also, start each round with at least six missing shells (as detailed in the Ammo Racks section) to remove the ammo racks on the rear of the turret, reducing turret penetration vulnerability to an instant cook-off.
Usage in battles
<!-- Describe the tactics of playing in the vehicle, the features of using vehicles in the team and advice on tactics. Refrain from creating a "guide" - do not impose a single point of view but instead give the reader food for thought. Describe the most dangerous enemies and give recommendations on fighting them. If necessary, note the specifics of the game in different modes (AB, RB, SB). -->

The M10 is a support vehicle. Find a good sniping position and lay behind the team taking out enemy tanks from a distance. Try to stay away from enemy tanks to avoid getting destroyed quickly. To make full use of its decent sniping capacity, find a spot that:

* overlooks key passageway / street / battle area
* is not too close to the frontline
* has slopes, hard covers or bushes
* is not too hard to get to

With a location like that, the M10 can utilise its -10° gun depression and use hull down. Its turret front and mantlet can consistently cause ricochets especially in a downtier. Looming behind bushes, an M10's well aimed shots should be able to knock out most enemy tanks at the battle-rating range from long range. Even if you get spotted, any slope or hard covers will provide protection for you.

If fighting in a close quarter's environment, do not try to push forward without support. Stay behind friendly tanks in order to support them without being shot at. If in an urban scenario on maps like Poland or Normandy, utilize the tank's turning speed to rotate the turret to the right angle. But, the best option is still to find a hull down location. For example, in Normandy, during arcade, the best location is towards the C point, where there are hills and dips that can be used to hide the hull, while giving a good view of the battlefield.

The M10 has a very slow turret rotation speed, but the M10 can traverse faster than it can rotate its turret and use its high speed when at high gear to produce some interesting skids via the physics engine to swerve the M10 and angle its gun at an enemy tank around the corner. It is recommended to understand and get a good feel of the M10's mobility and horsepower on dirt and paved roads before attempting this stunt. The low turret rotation speed means that a M10 player must always be aware of where the enemy tanks are, because they will not be able to turn the turret quickly if the enemy is able to flank the M10. In addition, the M10's side armour is weak, and the ammunition storage is in the hull sides, so if the enemy is able to shoot the M10 at that location, it is very likely to explode the ammo rack and destroy the tank with one shot.

Enemies worth noting:

R3 T20 FA-HS: this vehicle is the exact opposite tank when comparing to an M10: extremely high topspeed, great traverse and fast gun rotation. A well-maneuvered R3 can easily circle around the M10 and shoot AP shells through the thin side, while the M10 struggles to get the gun on target even when traversing the hull with the gun. If you know an R3 is around, you better turn your hull towards the possible direction and be ready to engage. Move the hull with the gun to target quicker. Even if you miss, the M2 Browning can still penetrate the R3 and knock out its crews. Note that a side shot on the R3 does not guarantee a kill as the fuse might not get triggered, and the crew are pretty separated. The R3 can run away and repair for another attack. A frontal shot, however, is likely to one shot it as the crew are all lined up.

8,8 cm Flak 37 Sfl.: also known as the "flak truck", it is rather hard to knock out due to the fact that its armor is so thin that almost every shell will over-penetrate, dealing almost no critical damage. Plus this vehicle mostly face their side to the targets, making it even harder to kill them as the crew are all far apart. So it can usually take quite some hits and take out the shooters one by one. As the shooter, aim for the left side of its turret first to disable its gunner first, then knock out the rest of its crew (right turret & driving compartment). Do not hope that the M2 HB can kill the crews, the "flak truck" 's armor is too thick for any MG to penetrate.
After that move on to research modifications from the Firepower tree: Horizontal Drive, Adjustment of Fire, and the Elevation Mechanism. Lastly research the Mobility tree: Tracks, Filters, Engine, Transmission, Suspension, Brake System.

Though the M79 shot stock is an available module in the modifications, it can be at the bottom of prioritization as it currently possess no advantage over the stock M62 shell, having the same shell velocity but with worse penetration at all distances and angles, shallower ricochet angle, higher shell cost

Pros:

* Main cannon penetration and damage is very good for the rank, can knock out many tanks (eg. T-34, KV-1 or even the Tiger H1) in one hit
* Mantlet sometimes absorbs shots with its sloped armour
* Good gun depression of -10°, perfect for hull-down positions
* Frontal glacis is somewhat bouncy due to a steep angle. Also the huge, V-shaped gun mantlet can often bounce / absorb shells (eg. 75 mm M3 and 76 mm F-34 / ZIS-5), as well as the large gun breech behind it further protecting the turret crew
* 5 crew members to replace 3 incapacitated crew members, plus one more with Crew Replenishment modification
* Storage bustle on the rear of the turret helps protect it by absorbing shots aimed at it
* Turreted purpose-built tank destroyer allows for a wide field of fire compared to casemate designs
* Powerful roof-mounted M2 Browning can damage light vehicles (R3 T20 FA-HS)or low flying aircraft well
* A lot of camouflages to unlock with relative ease
* Access to modification "Add-on Armour", that increases hull protection significantly on the sides and front
* Has relatively no problem when getting up-tiered

Cons:

* Very poor turret traverse speed combined with its rather sluggish hull traverse "locks" it as a long range sniper for most players- close quarters combat is difficult and great situational awareness is required, as it often cannot get its gun on target in time
* Base armour is quite thin, can get easily penetrated by common opponents like the Pz.IV F2 or StuG III F/G
* Open topped, vulnerable to aircraft strafing. Watch out for any IL-2 or Hs-129 B2
* Poor reverse speed can sometimes get the player killed
* Only x3.5 gunsight zoom making it hard to shoot distant targets

Development
Conceived after the Battle of France, the US Army employed a doctrine to fight against the expected massed armoured attack the Germans had employed with their Panzer Divisions. The doctrine called for a Tank Destroyer Branch that would be held in reserve to be deployed against an armoured attack. The first few vehicles produced on this concept was the 37 mm GMC M6 and the 75 mm GMC M3. While adequate, these were only seen as a stop-gap measure until better tank destroyers could be developed. With requests being sent for a 3-inch Gun Motor Carriage (GMC), a proposal was made in November 1941 for a turreted tank destroyer that would use the chassis of M4A2 Sherman and armed with the 3-inch gun from the M6 heavy tank. The resulting prototype was standardized in June 1942 as the 3-inch Gun Motor Carriage M10 in June 1942.

Production started on the M10s in September 1942 at Fisher Tank Arsenal at Grand Blanc, Michigan with a production priority rating much higher than even the new M4 medium tank. Due to the concerns of not meeting production demands, a separate variant developed on the M4A3 chassis as the M10A1. Production of these two vehicles would run until December 1943 (M10) and January 1944 (M10A1) for a total production number of 6,706 vehicle produced, 4,993 M10s and 1,713 M10A1s.

Today, the M10 is often referred to as the "Wolverine". However, the origin of this nickname is unknown. Some have contested that it was a British nickname, but it is unlikely as they gave it the designation "Achilles". It also is not an American nickname as well as all official documents referred to the M10's by their designation or "TD". It is widely accepted that "Wolverine" is a post-war nickname similar to the "Hetzer" nickname on the Jagdpanzer 38(t).

Combat usage
The M10 received their baptism of fire in Tunisia, with the Tank Destroyer putting their doctrine into practice at the Battle of El Guettar on 23 March 1943 against the 10th Panzer Division. Afterwards, the Allies found themselves on the offensive while large-scale German armoured punches became sporadic and scarce. Discontent with valuable guns and vehicles being left in reserves, a tactic was devised by Lt.Col. James Barney of the 776th to use the M10 in an artillery role with their 3-inch guns, a role the M10 found itself in during the fighting in Italy.

The M10 was also deployed as the standard equipment in 11 Tank Destroyer battalions during Operation Overlord, serving alongside M18 Hellcats and towed guns in the same tank destroyer role. Due to once again the armour engagements in Normandy and the rest of France to being scarce, the M10 found themselves supporting infantry advances into German territory. In July, encounters with Panther tanks shocked the tank destroyer crew as there was a belief the armaments were capable of easily dealing with the new German tanks, and complaints were made for the fielding of a better gun on the field. The solution came in the form of the M36 Jackson with a 90 mm cannon and the T4 HVAP ammo for the 3-inch gun.

Towards the end of 1944, the German Ardennes Offensive (Battle of the Bulge) caused the M10 and the other employed tank destroyers to face off once again against a dedicated armoured punch of Panthers and Tiger II tanks. During this campaign, a deception mission was launched by the Germans named Operation Grief, which had ten Panther tanks dressed up to look like M10s externally to fool Americans. All of these mock-ups were destroyed by battle or scrapped after it. After the Battle of the Bulge, the majority of German armoured forces have dwindled and armour engagements largely declined in the final months of the war in Europe. One of the M10's most notable action in 1945 was done on January 26 in the Colmar Pocket when the most decorated soldier of World War II, Audie Murphy, used a knocked out M10's M2 Browning machine gun to hold off a German counterattack of six tanks plus infantry while calling in artillery. He held for an hour and killed about 50 German soldiers from behind the burning M10 wreck, forcing the tank units to retreat due to loss of infantry support. Audie Murphy was awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions.

The M10s were a part of the American Lend-Lease program to the Allies and as such many M10s found their ways into British, Free French, and Soviet hands. In all, 1,855 M10s were sent in the Lend-Lease program, of which 1,648 were to Great Britain. The British designated the M10s as the 3" SPM (Self-Propelled Mount) M10. The most famous of the British usage of the M10 was the conversion of the armament into the 17-pounder gun. These converted M10s were designated M10C or M10 17-pdr under British nomenclature, though they did issue a name Achilles to designate all forms of M10 under British service.

After the end of World War II, most M10s were scrapped or given away as part of the Military Assistance Program to other allies.
In-game description
A self-propelled artillery/anti-tank mount based on the Sherman tank. A new open turret featuring a more powerful gun, but only manual targeting, was installed on it. It was released from September 1942 to January 1944 and proved to be quite effective in combat against German medium tanks. However, it was not powerful enough to stand up to the Tiger or Panther. And also... Due to its open turret it was vulnerable to artillery barrages and in battles in populated areas. It was frequently used as a standard linear tank.
