Pros:

* Powerful armament, can destroy even the most armoured air targets with just a small burst
* Quite manoeuvrable
* As a premium aircraft, has better SL and RP multipliers
* ShVAKS have a high rate of fire
* 37 mm cannon has a rather generous amount of ammo (50 rounds)
* 37 mm cannon can load Armored targets belts, capable of penetrating up to 60 mm of armour
* In addition to the 37 mm cannon, can carry bombs and rockets, allowing to to be useful in ground battles
* Minimum fuel load is 28 minutes
* Great climb rate, can manage 30 degrees with WEP
* From a distance, can be mistaken for a MiG-3, allowing you to take the upper hand

Cons:

* Liquid cooling system is located in the wings, allowing it to easily be hit
* Only one 13 mm steel plate protecting the pilot, can easily be pilot sniped
* Forward acceleration isn't very good compared to other aircraft of a similar BR
* Engine overheats at 100% throttle
* 37 mm cannon is inaccurate, making it hard to use
* 37 mm cannon overheats after just 6 shots
Devblog
At the end of 1940, the aircraft designer Nikolai Polikarpov came up with the initiative to create a fundamentally new combat aircraft for Soviet aviation - a fighter with heavy cannon armament, that could fulfill tasks typical for heavy fighters and attack aircraft, while possessing the flight characteristics of a light single-engine monoplane fighter. The military accepted Polikarpov's idea with interest, formulating tasks for the future aircraft, such as effective air combat, including the destruction of bombers, aerial destruction of tanks and armored vehicles, as well as escort missions. The assembly of the first prototype began in May of 1941, however, due to the rapid offensive from the enemy towards Moscow, production had to be evacuated to Novosibirsk, Siberia, where the test unit was completed.

ITP (M-1) (ITP is for “heavy cannon fighter”) was a monoplane fighter with a 1,650 hp M-107P engine, the armament of the aircraft consisted of a 37mm Sh-37 motor-mounted gun and a pair of 20mm ShVAK cannons. Flight tests began in February 1942, but were not fully completed due to engine problems. A little later, versions with the M-107A and the AM-37 engines were tested, on the second prototype, the 37mm cannon was replaced with another ShVAK cannon. Work on the ITP project was interrupted due to the untimely death of the Soviet "king of fighters" in 1944.
__TOC__

Overview
Kuban is a ground forces map available in all modes. It is one of the oldest tank maps, being present in the ground forces Closed Beta Test (CBT), and being released with the ground forces Open Beta Test (OBT) in Update 1.41; although has been significantly reworked since then. It is the only ground forces map in the game which is available in all five game modes (Battle, Domination, Conquest, Break and Skirmish). The map is set in the Kuban region of Russia, near the town of Krymskaya (now known as Krymsk).

The map is set in a rural area; there is a Prisoner Of War (POW) camp in the southeast of the map, made up of wooden buildings, and surrounded by barbed wire and guard towers. Aside from the camp and the small number of houses next to it, there are very few other buildings in the map; with two small clusters of forestry buildings, surrounded by chopped down trees, in the east and west of the map. The terrain is very uneven with lots of hills and rocky areas throughout the map, providing opportunities for short range brawling, and longer range "sniping" engagements.

The southeastern area of the map is separated from the rest of the map by several rocky hills, with passages between them. A road runs round the outside of the entire map, and another runs across it from the southwest to the northeast. The middle and northwest of the map are both similar, with plenty of hills and uneven terrain. There is a deep lake in the northwest, which if fallen in to is impossible to escape from.

The tank battles map is 1.6km x 1.6km and the air battles map is the same map as the Krymsk air battles map, at 65km x 65km.

Game Description
Historical Background
This map is set in the Kuban region of Southern Russia, surrounding the Kuban River, on the Black Sea. The tank map is a fictional location, inspired by the terrain in the area. The air battles map puts the tank battles map about 6.5km (4 miles) west of the town of Krymskaya (now known as Krymsk) and 25km (15.5 miles) northeast of the Port of Novorossiysk, which also features as a ground forces map in War Thunder.

The Kuban region saw fighting between Soviet and German forces during the Battle of the Caucasus, between 1942 and 1944.

Notable Landmarks
Map configuration
Domination<br>
There are three Capture Points. Point A will be in the centre of the map (grid zone H7), B is in the north west of the map (grid zone F5), C is just outside the POW camp in the southwest (grid zone L10).

Conquest<br>
There are three configurations of the conquest mode, each with one Capture Point. The point will be in the northwest (grid zone E4), in the southeast of the map near the POW camp (grid zone K10) or along the road running across the map (grid zone I8).

Battle<br>
There are two capture points, each owned by one of the teams. The points are among the forestry buildings in the east and west of the map.

Break<br>
One capture point will be in the northwest of the map (grid zone E4), and another will be near the road, towards the middle of the map (grid zone I8). When captured they will unlock capture points between the two spawns each team has.

Skirmish<br>
Kuban is one of only two maps to have access to the Skirmish mode, the other being Ash River. In the Skirmish mode the capture points move at fixed time intervals. At any time there can be between 1 and 3 capture points. For the possible locations of the points see the image below.

Strategy
From the 3 points located on the map the A point (furthest left) is the hardest to capture, being located on a hilly surface it typically has many different angles that you are able to be shot from. if your team are able to capture this point early game and then position heavily armoured tanks on the point the enemies will have a hard time being able to get a shot off as they attempt to drive over the hilltops. Assuming that the enemies captured this point before you. you are able to flank them from either side (the side closer to the edge of the map would work better as they are unable to get two separate lines of sights on you, unlike going through the centre of the map, where you can get spotted from a complete 180 degree radius) with some risk.

If you are looking to go for the other objectives teams commonly send light tanks to capture the points and then scout over the objectives to ensure the enemy does not recapture them... common watchman points for C could entail going around the camp's huts and then parking a tank on the slope of the mountain, which is covered in trees and bushes, which although creates low visibility it is rewarded with the factor of 'no enemy would consider looking there'.

In terms of the B (middle) point for both teams it is tricky to capture and tricky to re-obtain, so many different strategies have to be used in order to re-capture it, such as;

Rushing from over a hill and hiding behind the dirt mound to capture it

Getting a teammate to cover you, whilst you take the less risky option of heading through the hills and under the bridge, however this will more times fail rather than succeed, due to snipers camping the road, sniper hill, or even the various different hills located around the C point.

In terms of the B (middle) point for both teams it is tricky to capture and tricky to re-obtain, so many different strategies have to be used in order to re-capture it, such as;
