The Grumman F-14 Tomcat has been an icon of the USN since its introduction in 1970, but the US Navy wasn't the only user of the Tomcat. Though efforts were made to sell the Tomcat to US-allied countries, only Imperial Iran, then a close ally under the Pahlavi dynasty, sought a new interceptor to defend against the menacing, Mach 2.7-capable MiG-25R reconnaissance aircraft of the neighbouring Soviet Union. As soon as January 1974, after demonstration flights in the US alongside the F-15A, the IIAF placed an order for 80 Tomcats and ten years' worth of spare parts.&lt;br /&gt;

By the time of the 1979 Islamic Revolution, which overthrew the 2,500-year-old monarchy of Iran and replaced it with the Islamic Republic, 79 F-14As had been delivered to the IIAF before the new IRIAF took them over. During the Iraq-Iran War, the Iranian Tomcats performed outstandingly against the Ba'athist Iraqi forces. However, due to sanctions placed on the now anti-US Islamic Republic, the IRIAF often had to improvise their existing weaponry to be outfitted on their aircraft, including modifying the MIM-23 Hawk SAM to be used as a substitute for the dwindling supply of AIM-54A Phoenix missiles, and even creating the &amp;quot;Yasser&amp;quot;, a massive rocket created by strapping the M117 bomb warhead to spare rocket parts of the MIM-23 Hawk SAM to supplement the lack of guided munitions. With the eventual destruction of all remaining Tomcats stored in the continental US after the Gulf War to prevent possible smuggling of spare parts to Iran, the IRIAF had to cannibalise some of their remaining Tomcats to keep the jet operational. These F-14As also received some upgrades in terms of firepower with domestic modifications and sometimes Russian weaponry to keep them up-to-date. Fifty years since first delivered, the Iranian Tomcats are still in active service today under the designation &amp;quot;F-14AM&amp;quot; to denote various modernisation efforts to keep the aging fighter up-to-date.&lt;br /&gt;

The F-14A (IRIAF) is a frail aircraft at best. Like most jets, it will struggle at taking hits from modern weaponry. Its large size also doesn't help as having a larger cross section makes one much more vulnerable to radar and much easier to hit. Most of its fuel tanks are not self-sealing, with only the centre tank being self-sealing. It is also very susceptible to IR missiles, largely due to its two Pratt &amp;amp; Whitney engines running extremely hot. Its low countermeasure count of only 60 and early RWR can handicap one from countering missiles fired at close ranges. It is a manoeuvrable plane though, and with enough skill, a pilot can prevent enemies from getting guns or missiles on them.&lt;br /&gt;

Size-wise, the VK 45.01 (P) is slightly longer and slightly narrower than the Tiger H1. Despite the similarities, the VK 45.01 (P) is often called a &amp;quot;worse tiger&amp;quot;. When played right however, this is not so at all. The main weakness of the VK 45.01 (P) is that it has hull cheeks on the front of its hull. Attempting to angle your armour will only allow the enemy to shoot these weak points, which they can easily pen as they have the same armour values as the side armour. In other words, if fighting an enemy, you should either take cover or turn the front of your hull directly towards them. Because the hull cheeks are angled compared to the front armour, if your hull is facing directly towards the enemy the hull cheeks will have more effective armour than your frontal armour, so they are not a weak point when the tank is not angled. The turret traverse speed is also slow, slower than that of the Tiger H1, meaning it's better to snipe with this tank.&lt;br /&gt;

Because of its front hull cheeks, that are only 82 mm thick, even the slightest angling makes them very vulnerable to all guns, and to make matters even worse, ammunition is stored right behind them on both sides (unless one carries less ammunition).&lt;br /&gt;

Refrain from showing your armour to the enemy at all, as opposed to Box-shaped Henschel Tigers, because of the vulnerable front hull cheeks and much thinner side armour. 102 mm of front hull armour means that the VK 45.01 (p) can be defeated by a lot of shells at this BR, and even more so in uptiers.&lt;br /&gt;

With this tank, a calm and patient player will be able to rip apart lots of enemies, before being knocked out. The Tiger I P can easily survive a duel with other Henschel Tigers, because its hull armour is much stronger, and they use the same turret, that is rather hard to be penetrated by Short 8.8cm guns they use.&lt;br /&gt;

One of the flaws of its armour design is that it cannot be effectively angled AT ALL. Before even the evaluations began, Porsche was so confident that their design would be chosen that one hundred chassis of the VK 45.01 (P) was already produced. With the Henschel version chosen, the chassis was no longer needed to be made into a tank format, but it would be a waste to simply scrap them. These chassis were converted into casemate structures that could mount the new 88 mm Pak 43 cannon, which was longer and more powerful than the KwK 36 on the Tiger I. This would be called the ''[[Ferdinand|Ferdinand]]'' tank destroyer, later redesignated as the ''Elefant''. When downtiered, the tank can survive hits from most enemy shells at its BR. The surprisingly good armour and the good survivability make it a heavy tank. Its 47 mm gun won't have any trouble penetrating the enemy armour at its BR. The Ka-Chi's armour is thick, but also flat: angling gives the tank a higher chance to bounce shells.&lt;br /&gt;

The very high mounting of the turret allows it to sit behind and shoot over things that most tanks cannot, such as large rocks, lumber piles, and steep hills. With the success of the Navy's Type 2 Special Motorboat [[Ka-Mi]], a more ambitious project to create a bigger, more advanced vehicle was forwarded. Called the Type 3 Special Motorboat, it was not only meant as a fully ocean-going boat but capable of travelling submerged underwater as cargo on the back of a submarine. To withstand the depths (reported as deep as 100 m / 330 ft), the primary pressure hull was a cylinder between 2.0 and 2.1 m (6 ft 7 in) in diameter. Most of the machinery was taken from the [[Chi-He (Family)|Type 1 Chi-He]] medium tank, presumably to save costs and development time. Like the Ka-Mi, removable sea-going fore and aft pontoons were part of the design, however, they were not required to be amphibious. Navigation was accomplished by rudders attached to the rear pontoon. The vehicle-mounted twin screws could also be independently controlled to maintain a level of steering without the rudders. Nineteen units were reportedly built and extensively tested to success but were never used in combat as they were held back for the defence of the Japanese home islands.&lt;br /&gt;

The adoption of the Ka-Mi amphibious tank design opened up interesting opportunities for the General Staff of the Imperial Japanese Navy, when during a landing from the sea, it became possible to provide fire support with tanks that could go into battle immediately from the sea. The light Ka-Mi, however, did not provide the necessary firepower and did not have sufficient protection. In 1943, a new amphibious tank was created on the basis of the quite successful Chi-He medium tank, which received the designation Type 3 Ka-Chi. To transform into an amphibious tank, the Chi-He underwent a rather deep modernization: the armor plates were dismantled, the suspension was lengthened, equipped with two additional pairs of road wheels and rollers, a tall snorkel appeared over the cover of the engine compartment, and a distinctive dome appeared over the commander's cupola. The Ka-Chi received front and rear pontoons, as well as a set of rubber plugs to seal the hull. The new amphibious tank successfully passed tests, however, by the beginning of mass production, the situation in the Pacific forced the naval authorities to concentrate all production capacity on the construction of new ships and carrier-based aircraft, therefore, by the end of the war, about two dozen Ka-Chi were produced, none of which were ever used in battle.&lt;br /&gt;

In the early 2000’s, Japan sought to develop a new combat vehicle to extend the operational mobility of their armored units. Furthermore, the new vehicle was supposed to counter the limitations of existing tracked vehicles, be able to rapidly respond to emerging threats in the event of an outbreak of hostilities and possess the ability to be airlifted or ocean transferred to more distant areas of operations, such as the Japanese island of Okinawa.&lt;br /&gt;

Thus, in 2007, engineers at Mitsubishi began development on what would become the Type 16 MCV. To satisfy all the requirements, it was clear from the onset that a lightly armored, yet highly mobile and well-armed wheeled vehicle would need to be developed. Already, by 2008, the order for four prototypes was issued, with deliveries going on until 2013.&lt;br /&gt;

Army trials of the vehicle went on until 2016, when after successfully passing them, it officially entered service with the JSDF under the designation “Type 16 MCV”.
