== Description ==
<!--''In the description, the first part needs to be about the history of the creation and combat usage of the vehicle, as well as its key features. In the second part, tell the reader about the ground vehicle in the game. Insert the screenshot of the vehicle. If the novice player does not remember the vehicle by name, they will immediately understand what kind of vehicle it is talking about.''-->
[[File:GarageImage_{{PAGENAME}}.jpg|420px|thumb|left]]
{{break}}
The '''{{Specs|name}}''' is a gift Rank {{Specs|rank}} Soviet medium tank {{Battle-rating}}. It was introduced in [[Update 1.81 "The Valkyries"]].

== General info ==
=== Survivability and armour ===
<!--''Describe armour protection. Note the most well protected and key weak areas. Appreciate the layout of modules as well as the number and location of crew members. Is the level of armour protection sufficient, is the placement of modules helpful for survival in combat?''

''If necessary use a visual template to indicate the most secure and weak zones of the armour.''-->
The T-55, which this tank was based upon, used exclusively rolled homogeneous armour, which proved to useless against advanced chemical warheads. The Soviet Union, in an attempt to modernize and extend the service life of the T-55, conceived the AM-1 upgrade kit for the tank. The upgrade kit consists bolted-on blocks of metal-polymer plates, which are essentially plates of metal sandwiching polymer fillings. This solution was cheap and easy to implement, though its effectiveness was debatable. Compared to the original T-55A, the armour protection was greatly improved, but still prove to be insufficient against certain weapons.

The turret cheeks are fitted with the add-on metal-polymer blocks, which grants immunity to every HEAT warhead in-game except the HOT missiles. The Leopard's 120mm HEAT-FS occasionally penetrates the cheeks, and in that case, very minimal damage is caused. The turret armour against APDS is highly effective, given that the projectile impacts the add-on armour. However, the armour is mostly useless against APFSDS, and in case of penetration, will cause extensive damage. The add-on armour on the upper front plate is somewhat effective as it can nullify HEAT warheads with less than 450mm penetration. Most APFSDS will seamlessly penetrate the hull. Most APDS will bounce.

Do note that the gun breach area is very poorly protected by some 200mm of cast homogeneous armour, making its protection worth absolutely useless against everything. So do try to angle your turret by facing your cheeks. When doing so, use the right side of your turret to "catch" rounds, as even if it penetrates, only your loader will be knocked out, so no big deal.

Also note that the add-on armor block can be blown off your tank. For example, HOT missiles will have very high chance of taking off armor, and direct hit from artillery shell (assuming it hits the armor and doesn't kill you) will take off the armor.

In regards to ammo storage, your ready rack is stored within your fuel tank. This wet ammo storage will prevent ammo detonation from HEAT, but a well placed APFSDS will nonetheless cause ammo cook-off.

=== Mobility ===
<!--''Write about the mobility of the ground vehicle. Estimate the specific power and manoeuvrability as well as the maximum speed forward and backwards.''-->
The mobility is only bested by the [[XM-1 (GM)|XM-1]]. It will out-run most, if not all, its friendlies and adversaries. Its pivoting capabilities are comparable to the very capable neutral steering system on the [[Leopard A1A1 (L/44)|Leopard L/44]]. The tank will reach around 30-40 km/h off-road, and 10 km/h in reverse. The so-called "stabilized" gun is only operable reliably under 35km/h.

== Armaments ==
=== Main armament ===
<!--''Give the reader information about the characteristics of the main gun. Assess its effectiveness in a battle based on the reloading speed, ballistics and the power of shells. Do not forget about the flexibility of the fire, that is how quickly the cannon can be aimed at the target, open fire on it and aim at another enemy. Add a link to the main article on the gun: <code><nowiki>{{main|Name of the weapon}}</nowiki></code>. Describe in general terms the ammunition available for the main gun. Give advice on how to use them and how to fill the ammunition storage.''-->
{{main|D-10T2S (100 mm)}}

The 100mm rifled gun seems like an oddity at this BR, not in its calibre or whatnot, but its unparalleled versatility. The gun can fire APDS, APFSDS, HEAT-FS, HE, APHE, ATGM and smoke. In fact, it can fire every type of munition available in-game with the exception of HESH. Though very versatile, it is quite useless as the APDS, APFSDS and HEAT-FS are terribly under-performing compared to its adversaries. The only offensive munition worth carrying is the APHE and ATGM. The APHE (APCBC) is extremely capable. It '''will''' destroy most bad guys your face with one shot, given proper shot placement and successful penetration. At this rank, most your opponents are poorly armoured, like the [[Leopard I|Leopard 1]], [[MBT-70|MBT]]/[[KPz-70]] and XM-1, so the 200mm penetration on the APHE will penetrate and will result in the instant destruction of your enemies.
== Usage in battles ==
<!--''Describe the tactics of playing in the vehicle, the features of using vehicles in the team and advice on tactics. Refrain from creating a "guide" - do not impose a single point of view but give the reader food for thought. Describe the most dangerous enemies and give recommendations on fighting them. If necessary, note the specifics of the game in different modes (AB, RB, SB).''-->
The classic method of operating Soviet post-war tanks is hull-down sniping, concealing your vulnerable hull and exposing your well-armoured turret. Although this method is highly effective at staying alive, it is somewhat boring, and sometimes not enough to secure a victory. At times, you will have to leave the comfort of your cover and advance into enemy lines, and this tank will have no problem doing so. The T-55 AM-1 can not only hold a position, but also flank and advance the line (lead the charge) It is recommended to use your mobility to take up vantage points as the match begins, support your team and push out mid-late game to capture points.

=== Pros and cons ===
<!--''Summarize and briefly evaluate the vehicle in terms of its characteristics and combat effectiveness. Mark its pros and cons in a bulleted list. Do not use more than 6 points for each of the characteristics. Avoid using categorical definitions such as "bad", "good" and the like - they have a substitution in the form of softer "inadequate", "effective".''-->
'''Pros:'''

* Access to APFSDS ammunition
* Access to very good AGTM
* One of the few top rank tanks with APHE, great for one shots.
* Favorable matchmaking that won't face top rank tanks
* Respectable mobility
* Decent Armour, especially vs Chemical Munitions
* Roof Mounted DShK 12.7 mm MG is great for taking out low flying Helicopters
* Wet ammo storage can prevent ammo detonation from HEAT
* Due to access to APHE, it can even one-shot Abrams given proper shot placement. (Could bring this tank as a backup to top-tier Soviet lineup)

'''Cons:'''

* Armour is completely ineffective against APFSDS and 120 mm APDS
* Below average Reload Time for it's BR, many enemies will have a faster reload
* Poor reverse speed
* The Rheinmetall 120mm's HEAT-FS and most high-penetration ATGM's will go clean through its amor
* Ammo stored all around the Hull, a penetration will most likely result in an ammo detonation
* Rather Weak APFSDS.

{{break}}
The '''{{Specs|name}}''' is a gift Rank {{Specs|rank}} Soviet medium tank {{Battle-rating|1}}. It was introduced in [[Update 1.81 "The Valkyries"]].

== General info ==
=== Survivability and armour ===
<!--''Describe armour protection. Note the most well protected and key weak areas. Appreciate the layout of modules as well as the number and location of crew members. Is the level of armour protection sufficient, is the placement of modules helpfull for survival in combat?''

The turret armor against APDS is highly effective, given that the projectile impacts the add-on armor. However, the armor is mostly useless against APFSDS, and in case of penetration, will cause extensive damage. The add-on armor on upper front plate is somewhat effective as it can nullify HEAT warheads with less than 450mm penetration.

=== Mobility ===
<!--''Write about the mobility of the ground vehicle. Estimate the specific power and maneuverability as well as the maximum speed forward and backward.''-->
The tank will reach around 30-40km/h off-road, and 10 km/h in reverse. The so called "stabilized" gun is only operable reliably under 35km/h.

== Armaments ==
=== Main armament ===
<!--''Give the reader information about the characteristics of the main gun. Assess its effectiveness in a battle based on the reloading speed, ballistics and the power of shells. Do not forget about the flexibilty of the fire, that is how quickly the cannon can be aimed at the target, open fire on it and aim at another enemy. Add a link to the main article on the gun: <code><nowiki>{{main|Name of the weapon}}</nowiki></code>. Describe in general terms the ammunition available for the main gun. Give advice on how to use them and how to fill the ammunition storage.''-->
{{main|D-10T2S (100 mm)}}

The 100mm rifled gun seems like an oddity at this BR, not in its caliber or whatnot, but its unparalleled versatility. The gun can fire APDS, APFSDS, HEAT-FS, HE, APHE, ATGM and smoke. In fact, it can fire ever type of munition available in-game with the exception of HESH. Though very versatile, it is quite useless as the APDS, APFSDS and HEAT-FS are terribly under-performing compared to its adversaries. The only offensive munition worth carrying are the APHE and ATGM. The APHE (APCBC) is extremely capable. It '''will''' destroy most bad guys your face with one shot, given proper shot placement and successful penetration. At this rank, most your opponents are poorly armored, like the [[Leopard I|Leopard 1]], [[MBT-70|MBT]]/[[KPz-70]] and XM-1, so the 200mm penetration on the APHE will penetrate, and will result in the instant destruction of your enemies.
== Usage in the battles ==
The classic method of operating Soviet post-war tanks is hull-down sniping, concealing your vulnerable hull and exposing your well-armored turret. Although this method is highly effective at staying alive, it is somewhat boring, and sometimes not enough to secure a victory. At times you will have to leave the comfort of your cover and advance into enemy lines, and this tank will have no problem doing so. The T-55 AM-1 can not only hold a position, but also flank and advance the line (lead the charge)

=== Pros and cons ===
'''Pros:'''

* Access to APFSDS ammunition.
* Access to very good AGTM.
* One of the few top rank tanks with APHE, great for sideshots.
* Favorable matchmaking that won't face top rank tanks
* Respectable mobility.
* Decent Armour, especially vs Chemical Munitions.
* Roof Mounted DShK 12.7mm MG is great for taking out low flying Helicopters.

'''Cons:'''

* Armour is completely ineffective against APFSDS and 120mm APDS.
* Below average Reload Time for it's BR, many enemies will have a faster reload.
* Poor reverse speed.
* The Rheinmettal 120mm's HEAT-FS and most hih-pen ATGM's will go clean through its armour.
* Mobility, although decent, is worse than most of the enemy tanks you face.
* Being uptiered will have the T-55AM-1 be outperformed in all aspects against top rank vehicles.
* Ammo stored all around the Hull, a penetration will most likely result in an ammo detonation.
* Rather Weak APFSDS compared to the other ones, will have trouble in uptiers.

The turret armor against APDS is highly effective, given that the projectile impacts the add-on armor. However, the armor is mostly useless against APFSDS, and in case of penetration, will cause extensive damage.The add-on armor on upper front plate is somewhat effective, as it can nullify HEAT warheads with less than 450mm penetration. Most APFSDS will seamlessly penetrate the hull. Most APDS will bounce.

Do note that the gun breach area is VERY poorly protected by some 200mm of CHA, which is absolutely useless against everything. So do try to angle your turret by facing your cheeks. When doing so, use the right side of your turret to 'catch' rounds, as even if it penetrates, only your loader will die, so no big deal.

=== Mobility ===
The mobility is only bested by the XM-1. It will out-run most if not all its friendlies and adversaries. And its pivoting capabilities are comparable to the very capable neutral steering system on the Leopard L/44. The tank will reach around 30-40km/h off-road, and 10 km/h in reverse. The so called "stabilized" gun is only operable reliably under 35km/h.

== Armaments ==
=== Main armament ===
Its 100mm rifled gun seems like an oddity at this BR, not in its caliber or whatnot, but its unparalleled versatility. The gun can fire APDS, APFSDS, HEAT-FS, HE, APHE, ATGM and smoke. In fact, it can fire ever type of munition available in-game with the exception of HESH. Though very versatile, it is quite useless, as the APDS, APFSDS and HEAT-FS are terribly under-performing compared to its adversaries. The only offensive munition worth carrying are the APHE and ATGM. The APHE (APCBC) is extremely capable. It WILL one-shot-kill the bad guys your face, given proper shot placement and successful penetration. At this tier, most your opponents are poorly armored, like the Leopard 1, MBT/KPZ 70 and XM-1.
Refrain from creating a "guide" - do not impose a single point of view but give the reader food for thought. Describe the most dangerous enemies and give recommendations on fighting them. If necessary, note the specifics of the game in different modes (AB, RB, SB).''

=== Pros and cons ===
'''Pros:'''

* Access to APFSDS ammunition.
* Access to very good AGTM.
* One of the few top tier tanks with APHE, great for sideshots (Often One-Hit Kill).
* Battle Rating of 8.7 means it wont face top tier tanks, and is often top dog in 7.7-8.7 matches
* Respectable mobility.

* Poor reverse speed.
* The Rheinmettal 120mm's HEAT-FS and most hih-pen ATGM's will go clean through its armour.
* Mobility, although decent, is worse than most of the enemy tanks you face.
* Still will face 9.7 Tanks, like the Challenger Mk.2 and AMX-40, which outmatch you in every category.
* Ammo stored all around the Hull, a penetration will most likely result in an ammo detonation.
* Rather Weak APFSDS compared to the other ones, will have trouble in uptiers.

{{break}}
The '''{{Specs|name}}''' is a gift Rank {{Specs|rank}} Soviet medium tank {{Battle-rating|1}}. It was introduced in [[Update 1.81 "The Valkyries"]].

== General info ==
=== Survivability and armour ===
The T-55, which this tank was based upon used exclusively RHA, which proved to useless against advanced chemical warheads. The Soviet Union in an attempt to modernize and extend the service life of the T55, which they had produced so many of, conceived the AM-1 upgrade kit Hence the name of this tank, T-55 AM-1. The upgrade kit consists bolted-on blocks of metal-polymer plates, which are essentially plates of metal sandwiching polymer fillings. This solution was cheap and easy to implement, and its effectiveness was debatable. Compared to the original T-55 (A), the protection is greatly improved, but still prove to be insufficient against certain weapons.

=== Mobility ===
''Write about the mobility of the ground vehicle. Estimate the specific power and maneuverability as well as the maximum speed forward and backward.''

== Armaments ==
=== Main armament ===
<!--''Give the reader information about the characteristics of the main gun. Assess its effectiveness in a battle based on the reloading speed, ballistics and the power of shells. '''Pros:'''

* Access to APFSDS ammunition.
* Access to very good AGTM.
* One of the few top tier tanks with APHE, great for sideshots (Often One-Hit Kill).
* Battle Rating of 8.7 means it wont face top tier tanks, and is often top dog in 7.7-8.7 matches
* Respectable mobility.

* Poor reverse speed.

{{break}}
The '''{{Specs|name}}''' is a gift rank {{Specs|rank}} German medium tank {{Battle-rating|1}}. It was introduced in [[Update 1.81 "The Valkyries"]].

== General info ==
=== Survivability and armour ===

Players who have purchased the Leopard A1A1 L44 should be familiar with the armor of non-premium Leopard 1s. If not, the Leopard may not be what people expect a tank to be. It was developed before composite materials were discovered at a time where HEAT shells were so effective that in order for armour to be effective, it would be so thick that it would not be practical. Hence, the designers of Leopard 1s, knowing that there was no possible way of stopping HEAT rounds, removed the concept of armor. In essence, the Leopard A1A1 has no armor. The front hull, accounting slope, is only some 130mm thick. The turret and gun mantle is some 100mm depending on angle. [[BMP-2]]'s auto-cannon, racked with APDS, will penetrate your turret and will cause major damage. Any HEAT projectile impacting the tank will likely result in instantly being destroyed. However, the engine block can at times reliably save the crew from HEAT shells. APDS and APFSDS are a different story. The armor on the Leopard A1A1 is so thin that most non-explosive-filled shells will seldom cause spalling upon penetrating the side of the tank. Frontal penetrations will cause much more damage, as the armor is just enough to cause spalling.

The ready rack ammo is stored vertically within your turret to the left side of the tank. So AP penetrations to the right side of your tank may not set off the ammo. But, 3/4 of your crew are sited in a single file on the right side. So a penetration will knock you out nonetheless. Try to take no more than 20 shells, as it will increase the likelihood of ammo cook-off. The point is not to get hit, because if anything hits you, it will go through, and it will cause damage.

In some cases, you could operate the tank backwards and use your engine block as shield, as most HEAT shells will be absorbed by your transmission, radiator and engine.

=== Mobility ===
<!--''Write about the mobility of the ground vehicle. Estimate the specific power and manoeuvrability, as well as the maximum speed forward and backward.''-->

The mobility of the Leopard A1A1 is between the [[XM-1 (GM)|XM-1]] and [[T-55AM-1|T-55AM-1]]. Forward speed off road, expect some 40-50km/h. Reverse is about 15km/h off road. The neutral steering is absolutely amazing, you are able to swivel your tank easily. The suspensions are also great, very soft with great dampening effects, so expect a smooth drive.

== Armaments ==
=== Main armament ===

The legendary 120mm Rheinmetall L44 cannon does not fall short of its name. You get access to only two types of shells, APFSDS and HEAT-FS. Although the APFSDS sounds like a decent option, it actually isn’t. Apart from the fact that it cost SL to use, it also isn't very good at destroying your greatest threats: BMPs. Most times, the APFSDS will fly right through lightly armored vehicles with its 390mm penetration. The HEAT-FS, on the other hand, will result in hull-breaks on lightly armored targets while also being free of cost. The 120 mm HEAT with its 650mm penetration is able hull-break [[Object 120]]s and [[Object 906|906]]s, and anything that's not a MBT. For example, you can hit the tracks of an anti-aircraft vehicle, and it will hull-break. As such, the HEAT-FS has some more favorable characteristics than the APFSDS, while also retaining the fast velocity of 1100m/s, so it is quite easy to aim.

Note that the "Stabilized" gun is only really stable when travelling under 30km/h.

=== Machine guns ===
It is armed with 2 MG34s, which fires .30cal laser beams. However, these are more of deterrents to helicopters, as the small caliber bullets will rarely cause critical damage to helicopters.

== Usage in battles ==
''Describe the tactics of playing in the vehicle, the features of using vehicles in the team and advice on tactics.
=== Pros and cons ===
<!--''Summarize and briefly evaluate the vehicle in terms of its characteristics and combat effectiveness. Mark its pros and cons in a bulleted list. Try not to use more than 6 points for each of the characteristics. '''Pros:'''
* Effective gun with well-performing HEATFS
* Good reverse speed
Development of a Leopard 1 fitted with the 120mm L44 cannon began as a private venture of the Rheinmetall company, hoping that such a Leopard 1 variant would be of interest, not just to the German army due to logistical commonalities with the Leopard 2 and higher performance of the gun, but also to international customers seeking third generation MBT features on older machines.

In the early 1980s, a Leopard 1A1A1 was modified with a thicker cast steel mantlet, suitable for mounting the Rheinmetall 120mm cannon, and additional interior changes to hold the respective ammunition. Further changes were applied in early 1985, with the installation of the EMES 18 fire control system from the Leopard 1A5.

Although there were several different prototypes based on Leopard 1 outfitted with the 120mm Rheinmetall cannon, none of them managed to justify a costly large scale upgrade effort of existing Leopard 1s. The upgrade was largely considered redundant due to the already more advanced Leopard 2 being in service.
The '''{{Specs|name}}''' is a gift rank {{Specs|rank}} German medium tank {{Battle-rating|1}}. It was introduced in [[Update 1.81 "The Valkyries"]].

== General info ==
=== Survivability and armour ===
Players who have purchased the Leopard A1A1 L44 should be familiar with the armor of non-premium Leopard 1s. If not, well, the Leopard is not really what people expect a tank to be. It was developed at a time where HEAT shells were effective that in order for RHA to be effective, it would be so thick that it would not be practical, and before composite materials were discovered. Hence, the designers of Leopard 1s, knowing that there was no possible way of stopping HEAT rounds, they completely removed the concept of armor. In essence, the Leopard A1A1 has no armor. The front hull, accounting slope, is only some 130mm thick. The turret and gun mantle is some 100mm depending on angle. BMP-2’s auto-canon, racked with APDS will penetrate your turret and will cause major damage. Any HEAT projectile impacting the tank will likely result in instant death. However, the engine block will reliability save your crew from HEAT shells. APDS and APFSDS are a different story. The armor on the Leopard A1A1 is so thin that most non-explosive-filled shells will seldom shrapnel upon penetrating the side of the tank. Frontal penetrations will cause much damage, as the armor is just enough to cause spalling.

The ready rack ammo is stored vertically within your turret to the left side of the tank. So AP penetrations to the right side of your tank may not set off the ammo. But, ¾ of your crew are sited in a single file on the right side. So a penetration will kill you nonetheless. Try to take no more than 20 shells, as it will increase the likelihood of ammo cook-off. The point is not to get hit, because if anything hits you, it will go through, and it will cause damage.

In some cases, you could operate the tank backwards, and use your engine block as shield, as most HEAT shells will be absorbed by your transmission, radiator and engine.

The mobility of the Leopard A1A1 is between the XM-1 and T-55 AM-1. Forward speed off road, expect some 40-50km/h. Reverse is about 15km/h off road. The neutral steering is absolutely amazing, you are able to swivel your tank easily. The suspensions are also great, very soft with great dampening effects, so expect a smooth drive.

== Armaments ==
=== Main armament ===
The legendary 120mm Rheinmetall L44 canon do not fall short of its name. You get access to only 2 types of shells, APFSDS and HEAT-FS. Although the APFSDS sounds like a decent option, it actually isn’t. Apart from the fact that it cost SL to use, it also isn’t very good at killing your greatest threats: BMPs. Most times, the APFSDS will fly right through lightly armored vehicles with its 390mm penetration. The HEAT-FS on the other hand, which is my personal preference, will result in hull-breaks on lightly armored targets. It is also FREE!!!! But for real, that 120 HEAT with its 650mm penetration will hull-break Object 120s and 906s, and anything that’s not a MBT. For example, you can hit the tracks of an AA gun, and it will hull-break. So, I advise you to stick with HEAT. Also, it has a fast velocity of 1100m/s, so it is quite easy to aim.

Note that the “Stabilized” gun is only stable when travelling under 30km/h.

=== Additional armament ===
''Some tanks are armed with several guns in one or more turrets. Evaluate the additional weaponry and give advice on its use. Describe the ammunition available for additional weaponry. Give advice on how to use them and how to fill the ammunition storage. If there is no additional weaponry remove this subsection.''

=== Machine guns ===
''Offensive and anti-aircraft machine guns not only allow you to fight some aircraft, but also are effective against lightly armoured vehicles. Evaluate machine guns and give recommendations on its use.''

== Usage in battles ==
''Describe the tactics of playing in the vehicle, the features of using vehicles in the team and advice on tactics. Refrain from creating a "guide" - do not impose a single point of view but give the reader food for thought. Describe the most dangerous enemies and give recommendations on fighting them. If necessary, note the specifics of the game in different modes (AB, RB, SB).''

=== Pros and cons ===
<!--''Summarize and briefly evaluate the vehicle in terms of its characteristics and combat effectiveness. Mark its pros and cons in a bulleted list. Try not to use more than 6 points for each of the characteristics. Avoid using categorical definitions such as "bad", "good" and the like - they have a substitution in the form of softer "inadequate", "effective".''-->
'''Pros:'''

* Good mobility
* Effective gun with well-performing HEATFS
* Good reverse speed

'''Cons:'''

* Inadequate armor
* Engine prone to fire
* Ammunition exposed

== History ==
<!--''Describe the history of the creation and combat usage of the ground vehicle in more detail than in the introduction. If the historical reference turns out to be too big, take it to a separate article, taking a link to an article about the vehicle and adding a block "/ History" (example: <nowiki>https://wiki.warthunder.com/(Vehicle-name)/History</nowiki>) and add a link to it here using the <code>main</code> template.

''Give the reader information about the characteristics of the main gun. Give advice on how to use them and how to fill the ammunition storage.''
== Usage in battles ==

=== Pros and cons ===

== General info ==
=== Survivability and armour ===
