The '''{{Specs|name}}''' is a rank {{Specs|rank}} Japanese tank destroyer {{Battle-rating}}. It was introduced in [[Update 1.89 "Imperial Navy"]].

== General info ==
=== Survivability and armour ===
''Describe armour protection. Note the most well protected and key weak areas. Appreciate the layout of modules as well as the number and location of crew members. Is the level of armour protection sufficient, is the placement of modules helpful for survival in combat?''

''If necessary use a visual template to indicate the most secure and weak zones of the armour.''

=== Mobility ===
''Write about the mobility of the ground vehicle. Estimate the specific power and manoeuvrability, as well as the maximum speed forwards and backwards.''

== Armaments ==
=== Main armament ===
The primary armament of the Type 16 MCV is a 105mm JSW cannon, derived from the L7A3 much like many other NATO/BLUFOR vehicles. It features the standard selection of APFSDS, HESH, HEAT-FS, and smoke, in addition to the Type 93 shell, one of the better APFSDS at this tier. While you will struggle against 10.0 and 10.3 main battle tanks from the front, your gun is very effective against everything else. The HEAT-FS is especially effective against lightly armored vehicles - it will often hull break where the APFSDS will not deal sufficient damage.

When fighting MBTs, you should try to get side on shots. Type 93 will struggle against most 10.0s and 10.3s from the front, but from the side it will act like any other fin round. This is especially effective against "t series" tanks like the T-64, T-72, and T-80.

=== Additional armament ===
The Type 93 has no additional large caliber armament.

=== Machine guns ===
The Type 16 has an additional 7.62mm coaxial MG, like most tanks at this tier. It also retains the roof mounted .50 caliber HMG in the American style; this can be extremely effective against light tanks, especially Soviet light tanks like the BMP-1, BMP-2, Object 906, and Object 685. It will easily penetrate them from the side, allowing you to secure a kill if you've only knocked out their mobility.

==Usage in battles==
''Describe the tactics of playing in the vehicle, the features of using vehicles in the team and advice on tactics. Refrain from creating a "guide" - do not impose a single point of view but instead give the reader food for thought. Describe the most dangerous enemies and give recommendations on fighting them. If necessary, note the specifics of the game in different modes (AB, RB, SB).''

'''Pros:'''

* Excellent mobility
* Potent top ammunition
* Commander and gunner have thermal sights
* 105 mm similar to the Type 74
* Thermals available early on as a tier-one firepower modification

'''Cons:'''

* Thin armour
* Limited machine gun elevation
* Can be penetrated by machine-gun fire from the side
* No Hydronumatc suspension unlike other Japanese tanks of the rank
* Wheels can be damaged reducing mobility

== History ==
<!--Describe the history of the creation and combat usage of the ground vehicle in more detail than in the introduction. If the historical reference turns out to be too long, take it to a separate article, taking a link to the article about the vehicle and adding a block "/ History" (example: <nowiki>https://wiki.warthunder.com/(Vehicle-name)/History</nowiki>) and add a link to it here using the <code>main</code> template. Be sure to reference text and sources by using <code><nowiki><ref></nowiki></code>, as well as adding them at the end of the article. This section may also include the vehicle's dev blog entry (if applicable) and the in-game encyclopedia description (under <code><nowiki>=== In-game description ===</nowiki></code>, also if applicable).-->
In the early 2000’s, Japan sought to develop a new combat vehicle to extend the operational mobility of their armored units. Furthermore, the new vehicle was supposed to counter the limitations of existing tracked vehicles, be able to rapidly respond to emerging threats in the event of an outbreak of hostilities and possess the ability to be airlifted or ocean transferred to more distant areas of operations, such as the Japanese island of Okinawa.

Thus, in 2007, engineers at Mitsubishi began development on what would become the Type 16 MCV. To satisfy all the requirements, it was clear from the onset that a lightly armored, yet highly mobile and well-armed wheeled vehicle would need to be developed. Already, by 2008, the order for four prototypes was issued, with deliveries going on until 2013.

Army trials of the vehicle went on until 2016, when after successfully passing them, it officially entered service with the JSDF under the designation “Type 16 MCV”. Production began in the same year (2016), and is still ongoing today. Presently, around 100 Type 16 MCVs have been built and commissioned into service, with no units seeing combat action thus far.
The '''{{Specs|name}}''' is a rank {{Specs|rank}} Japanese tank destroyer {{Battle-rating}}. It was introduced in [[Update 1.89 "Imperial Navy"]].

== General info ==
=== Survivability and armour ===
Despite being a wheeled tank destroyer, the Type 16 has surprisingly good armor, similar to the Merkava Mk1. From the front, it's combination of 150mm composite, 35mm RHA, fuel tank, engine/radiator, and 8mm of RHA mean that you are very safe against 400mm and 440mm NATO and Soviet HEAT rounds. Frequently, the 400mm round (Type 91 on the Type 16) will just penetrate the front and damage the fuel tank, without even hurting the engine/radiator or the crew behind that. The 440mm round (3BK4 on the T-62) will usually penetrate and destroy the engine, leaving the crew unharmed. This is only true of lower caliber HEAT - 120mm/125mm HEAT as well as ATGMs will usually just kill you outright, armor be damned.

Likewise, it's upper glasis is very bouncy against everything that isn't APFSDS. Bounces usually ricochet away without harm, but HEAT or HESH rounds that bounce off your upper glasis into the turret face will likely kill you, or at least knock out your gun.

From the side, your armor is hopeless. Like every other light tank (BMP-2, Type 89, Bradley, etc), your armor can be ripped apart by anything 14.5mm and larger (though the 14.5s are probably over preforming). Please note though that .50s tend not to penetrate you from the side, even at point blank. A corollary of this is the "no armor best armor" result. APFSDS can and will sometimes penetrate you from the side without dealing severe damage, letting you fight back.

=== Mobility ===
The Type 16 is very mobile, as expected of a wheeled tank destroyer. On road, you can reach speeds in excess of 70kph with ease (though the stated top speed of 100kph is harder to attain for any extended period of time, due to the mediocre driving system in war thunder for wheeled vehicles). Off road, its mobility suffers, though it will usually keep pace with most MBTs. On snow or mud, your mobility is very poor, far worse than any tracked vehicle. The Type 16's reverse speed is also very good, attaining around 36 kph on dirt.

== Armaments ==
=== Main armament ===
''<code><nowiki>{{</nowiki></code>''https://www.wikiwand.com/en/Royal_Ordnance_L7''<code><nowiki>|105mm JSW Cannon}}</nowiki></code>''

=== Additional armament ===
''Some tanks are armed with several guns in one or more turrets. Evaluate the additional weaponry and give advice on its use. Describe the ammunition available for additional weaponry. Give advice on about how to use them and how to fill the ammunition storage. If there is no additional weaponry remove this subsection.''

=== Machine guns ===
''Offensive and anti-aircraft machine guns not only allow you to fight some aircraft but also are effective against lightly armoured vehicles. Evaluate machine guns and give recommendations on its use.''

==Usage in battles==
''Describe the tactics of playing in the vehicle, the features of using vehicles in the team and advice on tactics. The '''{{Specs|name}}''' is a rank {{Specs|rank}} Japanese light tank {{Battle-rating}}. It was introduced in [[Update 1.85 "Supersonic"]].

Full name known as the Mitsubishi Type 89 infantry fighting vehicle (Japanese: 三菱89式装甲戦闘車 - ''Mitsubishi 89-shiki sōkō-sentō-sha''), the Type 89 provides an autocannon weapon combined with an anti-tank guided missile for a diverse range of attack methods.

== General info ==
=== Survivability and armour ===

=== Mobility ===
''Write about the mobility of the ground vehicle. Estimate the specific power and manoeuvrability as well as the maximum speed forward and backwards.''

== Armaments ==
=== Main armament ===
''The Type 89 has two primary armaments: the 35mm Oerlikon KDA (auto cannon) and six Type 79 ATGMs,''

fired in salvos of two. It’s auto cannon is shared with the Gepard, the Type 87, and the Chieftain Marksman, and is widely considered to be the best in the game. This is due to its moderate caliber and rate of fire: 35mm is the largest of the small auto cannons which allows it to have a much higher rate of fire than any 40mm or 57mm system. This allows the Type 89 to easily deal with any lightly armored vehicle in game. It also has access to a belt of DM 23, which allows it to deal with MBTs from the side, though this is usually not advised. The Type 79 ATGM has around 700mm flat pen at any range, and has a high velocity, making it one of the better ATGMs in game, though it falls short of the HOT series and the AGM-114Bs found in the AH-1Z. This ATGM lets you deal with most tanks from the front, but be sure to avoid hitting NATO NERA composite armor or Russian ERA, as these will likely prevent a one shot kill. Note that since you have two ATGMs mounted to the outside of your vehicle (with six total), you can immediately fire another missile after your first one lands.

=== Additional armament ===
''Some tanks are armed with several guns in one or more turrets. Evaluate the additional weaponry and give advice on its use. Describe the ammunition available for additional weaponry. Give advice on how to use them and how to fill the ammunition storage. If there is no additional weaponry remove this subsection.''

=== Machine guns ===
''Offensive and anti-aircraft machine guns not only allow you to fight some aircraft but also are effective against lightly armoured vehicles. Evaluate machine guns and give recommendations on its use.''

== Usage in battles ==
''Describe the tactics of playing in the vehicle, the features of using vehicles in the team and advice on tactics. Refrain from creating a "guide" - do not impose a single point of view but give the reader food for thought. Describe the most dangerous enemies and give recommendations on fighting them. If necessary, note the specifics of the game in different modes (AB, RB, SB).''

=== Pros and cons ===
<!--Summarize and briefly evaluate the vehicle in terms of its characteristics and combat effectiveness. Mark its pros and cons in a bulleted list. Try not to use more than 6 points for each of the characteristics. Avoid using categorical definitions such as "bad", "good" and the like - they have a substitution in the form of softer "inadequate", "effective".-->

== History ==
<!--''Describe the history of the creation and combat usage of the ground vehicle in more detail than in the introduction. If the historical reference turns out to be too big, take it to a separate article, taking a link to an article about the vehicle and adding a block "/ History" (example: <nowiki>https://wiki.warthunder.com/(Vehicle-name)/History</nowiki>) and add a link to it here using the <code>main</code> template. Be sure to reference text and sources by using <code><nowiki><ref></nowiki></code>, as well as adding them at the end of the article.''-->
At the beginning of the 1980s, the JSDF wanted to replace its outdated Type 60 and Type 73 APCs with more modern IFVs, similar to the American Bradley and the German Marder. The JSDF drew up a set of requirements and tasked the Mitsubishi company with developing a suitable replacement.

In 1984, funding was approved to build four different prototypes, all of which underwent testing until 1986. By 1989, one prototype design was selected and was adopted within the armed forces under the designation of Type 89.

Initially, the JSDF estimated the need for about 300 Type 89s to be built. However, the end of the Cold War in the 1990s combined with a limited budget prevented a rapid mass-production of Type 89 to take place. In fact, production was proceeding at a very low rate, with just over 50 vehicles entering service with the JSDF by 1999.

Although production of Type 89 was discontinued in 2004, the vehicle is still in service with the JSDF today. As of 2016, a total of 68 vehicles were present in the JSDF’s inventory from the initially planned 300.
