In the second part, tell the reader about the aircraft in the game. Insert a screenshot of the vehicle, so that if the novice player does not remember the vehicle by name, he will immediately understand what kind of vehicle the article is talking about.'' -->
The '''{{Specs|name}}''' is a rank {{Specs|rank}} French strike aircraft {{Battle-rating}}. It was introduced in [[Update 1.95 "Northern Wind"]]. It was first conceived as a fighter for NATO's NMBR-1 fighter competition, where it lost against the Italian [[G.91 pre-serie]]. The French Navy, requiring a carrier-borne attacker, adopted the design, which was christened as the Etendard IVM. This is reflected in the Etendard's capability to dogfight other jet fighters while designated as a Strike Aircraft.

The many lessons learnt to use the Etendard will be crucial for future French jets, which includes the [[Mirage F1C]].
<!-- ''Describe how the aircraft behaves in the air. Speed, manoeuvrability, acceleration and allowable loads - these are the most important characteristics of the vehicle.'' -->

The Etendard has good acceleration up to 1050 km/h, after which the aircraft tends to have a very difficult time accelerating. Manoeuvrability is acceptable when above 800 km/h - not great, but not bad. However, dipping below 800 km/h causes the aircraft to lose much of its turning ability, which requires the pilot to pop out flaps to remain manoeuvrable. Energy retention is quite poor at all speeds, but once the aircraft is able to get back into a straight line, said energy will be regained quite quickly. The aircraft has a good rate of climb compared to its counterparts.
== Usage in battles ==
<!-- ''Describe the tactics of playing in the aircraft, the features of using aircraft in a team and advice on tactics. Refrain from creating a "guide" - do not impose a single point of view, but instead, give the reader food for thought. Examine the most dangerous enemies and give recommendations on fighting them. If necessary, note the specifics of the game in different modes (AB, RB, SB).'' -->

Although it does not have an afterburner, the Etendard has a very competitive TWR and acceleration, thanks to its light weight and powerful engine. It also has a good climb rate, decent turn rate, and a fairly standard set of armaments. However, like many French jets at its rank, it tends to have poor energy retention, and any manoeuvring tends to drastically reduce acceleration. This means that a turnfighting playstyle is often difficult, and defensive flying is hard to do successfully- the player should avoid gaining a tail if at all possible.

As such, the aircraft's good climbing ability and acceleration make it better suited for a more passive boom and zoom playstyle, where it is unlikely that an enemy will be able to chase it down. Such a playstyle will require teamwork. The Etendard is by no means a solo carry, and diving in and out of furballs to support teammates is often necessary. In this playstyle, the player will be easily able to keep a speed above 800 km/h (below which the aircraft's manoeuvrability suffers greatly).

In case if the Etendard were to fall under 800 km/h, the only way to survive is either through regaining energy and run away, or pop out flaps. The Etendard is a jet that requires a pilot to use their flaps properly. This way, the Etendard can outturn its majority of opponents. Just be careful to not lose all of its energy. The key to using flaps for the Etendard is as follows:

* Above 850 km/h, don't use any flaps, as flaps decreases the Etendard's manoeuvrability at higher speeds
* 600-850 km/h, pop out combat flaps
* 300-550km/h, utilise take-off flaps
* 300 km/h and below, lower landing flaps

The above flaps guide for the Etendard is a necessary component of the Etendard, as this is the only way to maintain ideal and competitive manoeuvrability over other jets. However, it is important that a pilot retain most of their aircraft energy, and thus, don't overextend the Etendard's manoeuvring capability.

The Etendard has two 30 mm cannons mounted on the bottom side of the aircraft. This can throw off many players' aim, and the only way to resolve this issue is through practice. Another good way to compensate this is by setting the gun convergence around 400-600 m with vertical targeting on. While this might help, practice remains necessary.

The aircraft's air-to-air missiles, while less able to lock and track enemies than missiles mounted by other aircraft above its rank, can be very effective against slow targets and non-manoeuvrable bombers such as the [[B-57A|B-57]], [[Tu-14T]] or the Israeli [[Vautour IIA (Israel)|Vautour IIA]] and [[Vautour IIN (Israel)|Vautour IIN]].

Apart from that, the Etendard has access to CCIP for its rockets and bombs, a rarity for aircraft at this BR. Other aircraft that has access to CCIP or CCRP around this BR includes the [[A32A]], both [[Buccaneer S.1]] and [[Buccaneer S.2|S.2]], and the [[Su-7B]]. Combining the flight performance of the Etendard and access to ballistic computers, this aircraft makes one of the most accurate and effective attacker of its BR, especially in Ground RB. This compensates for its limited suspended armaments compared to its more dedicated attacker peers.

The Etendard also has access to a DRAA 3D radar. A radar at 9.0 is a really rare feature, present only in a few select aircraft, such as the [[F-86K (France)|F-86K]], [[Lim-5P]] and the unwieldy [[Vautour IIN (Israel)]]. However, the Etendard's radar is the weakest of them all, having only a 25°x25° detection cone, which is a far cry from the Lim-5's 120°x30° detection cone. While the radar is weaker compared to its peers, the presence of the radar alone could be useful in some situations, especially if you are playing simulator.

=== Pros and cons ===
<!-- ''Summarise and briefly evaluate the vehicle in terms of its characteristics and combat effectiveness. Mark its pros and cons in the bulleted list. Try not to use more than 6 points for each of the characteristics. Avoid using categorical definitions such as "bad", "good" and the like - use substitutions with softer forms such as "inadequate" and "effective".'' -->

'''Pros:'''

* Good acceleration and climb rate
* Strong cannons and ground-attack capability
* Carrier take-off results in a higher starting speed than a land take-off
* Better energy retention than the Super Mystere B2
* Access to AS-30 Nord MCLOS-guided missiles
* Has a Ballistic Computer for rockets and bombs, making it a capable and accurate attacker
* Access to a radar, a rarity among 9.0 vehicles. It is capable of detecting and tracking an enemy 13km away

'''Cons:'''

* Often uptiered, forcing the plane to face difficult opponents
* Has fewer air-to-air missiles than some other jets at its rank
* Limited ammunition and small payload
* Poor low-speed manoeuvrability, can be compensated by the proper usage of flaps
* Bleeds energy in a turn extremely quickly
* The radar has a pretty bad frontal detection cone of just a mere 25°x25°

== History ==

The Dassault Etendard was developed from an aircraft initially intended for the French Air Force to participate in the competition for the best ground attack aircraft capable of operating from makeshift <!-- original word was "artisanal", so this interpretation may not be accurate --> runways.

This design was not chosen by NATO, which preferred the [[G.91 (Family)|Fiat G.91]]. The French Air Force also did not want it and preferred to wait until the end of the development of the Mirage III. However, the prototype built for the French Air Force caught the attention of the Navy, which requested a navalised prototype in 1956.

A new engine was then added to it: the Atar 8 (Atar 9 without afterburner); an in-flight refuelling probe; new high lift devices; a new fuselage with a larger wing area; foldable wing tips; a new reinforced structure to support catapult launches and landings; and finally, an enlarged nose cone to fit the new '''Aida radar''' for aerial and ground target acquisition. In addition, a SAAB AX 26 toss-bombing and ballistic computer was incorporated into the design. 5 pre-production airframes were ordered by the French Navy in May 1957. On May 21, 1958, at Melun Villaroche, Jean-Marie Saget took charge of the plane. The Etendard flew as fast as the [[Super Mystere B2]] despite not having an afterburner.

Dassault would produce 90 copies in Mérignac (not counting the prototypes). From the Etendard IVM no.1 to no.69, deliveries were made from December 1961 to May 1965.

The Etendard IVM was gradually withdrawn from service from 1978, due to the introduction of the Super Etendard.
== Description ==
<!-- ''Write an introduction to the article in 2-3 small paragraphs. Briefly tell us about the history of the development and combat using the weaponry and also about its features. Compile a list of air, ground, or naval vehicles that feature this weapon system in the game.'' -->
The Denel GT-3 cannon is an South African cannon developed in their efforts to upgrade existing Centurions with a more powerful cannon. Due to international embargoes imposed on South Africa, the South African government had to outsource their parts elsewhere.

This cannon uses a modified 105 mm barrel while retaining the original [[20pdr OQF Mk.I (84 mm)]] gun breech from their Centurions. The resulting gun could fire NATO compatible ammunitions.

== General info ==
<!-- ''Tell us about the tactical and technical characteristics of the cannon or machine gun.'' -->
The Denel GT-3 cannon has a very similar performance to the powerful [[L7A3 (105 mm)]] cannon found on most Leopards and the Japanese Type 74s. More specifically, it has access to all ammunitions found in the [[Leopard 1A5]] with the same characteristics, plus an M416 smoke round and the DM63 for the [[TTD]]. Thus, in War Thunder, the Denel GT-3 cannon is more akin to the Argentinian [[FMK.4 Modelo 1L (105 mm)]] in every aspect. For example, the [[Olifant Mk.1A]] has every rounds available to the [[TAM]] except for its APDS round. The TTD, on the other hand, has all ammunition available for [[TAM 2C]]. Finally, the [[Class 3 (P)]] fires every round available for the [[TAM 2IP]].

=== Available ammunition ===
<!-- ''Describe the shells that are available for the weapon and their features and purpose. If it concerns autocannons or machine guns, write about different ammo belts and what is inside (which types of shells).'' -->
{{Notice|The M152, M156 and M111 shells are available to all tanks using the Denel GT-3 cannon. The M416 smoke round is available only for the [[Olifant Mk.1A]], the DM33 is present only in the [[Class 3 (P)]], while the DM63 is used only in the [[TTD]].}}
=== Comparison with analogues ===
[[L7A3 (105 mm)]]: The Denel GT-3 is based upon the L7A3 in a lot of ways. Most importantly, the GT-3 was designed specifically to fire NATO rounds that is found in the L7A3. While similar, the Denel has no access to stock APDS rounds, which means that players must rely on the much more penetrating but less reliable HEAT-FS shots.

[[L7A1 (105 mm)]]: Another gun the Denel GT-3 is based upon, and is located in the same tree but at a lower BR. The simplest way to describe the L7A1 is as an inferior GT-3. Most tanks armed with the L7A1 lacks a true APFSDS round or HEAT-FS round, while having access to a similar performing HESH round and an APDS round that is unavailable to the Denel GT-3. The only tank armed with the L7A1 that can fire HEAT-FS round is the [[Vickers Mk.3]].

[[FMK.4 Modelo 1L (105 mm)]]: In War Thunder, both the Denel GT-3 and the FMK.4 Modelo 1L are practically the same gun. Both has the same reload speed and the same shells with no differences between the two. The only difference is the suspension and turret they are on and access to APDS round.

[[M68 (105 mm)]]: the American version of the L7 cannon. Like the Denel GT-3, this cannon has access to HEAT-FS, HESH, APFSDS and smoke rounds. But, the M68 also has access to stock APDS rounds, unlike the Denel GT-3 cannon.

[[CN-105-F1 (105 mm)]]: this unique French cannon is similar to the Denel GT-3 in practice. While it lacks in available HESH round or a stabiliser, it compensates them all with a terrifying APFSDS round and a functional HE round.

[[D-10T (100 mm)]]/[[D-10T2S (100 mm)]]: the main adversary of the Denel both in War Thunder and in real life. The Soviet cannon has access to all ammunition the Denel could use, plus APDS, useless APCR rounds and the devestating APHE shots. While the APHE rounds have less penetration compared to anything else, it compensates by having a guaranteed one penetration one kill with over 94g of TNT. And because of the lack of armour in most MBTs at some spots, the D-10T could shoot more comfortably than the Denel GT-3. However, the HEAT-FS and APFSDS is inferior compared to the Denel GT-3. And with an extra 3 seconds of reload time across the board, this may prove detrimental in situations many MBTs find themselves in, which gives the Denel GT-3 quite a practical advantage.

== History ==
The Denel GT-3 was a South African cannon developed by Denel Land System DLS in their effort to upgrade existing Centurion tanks with a 105mm cannon. Due to international sanctions forbidding South Africa to acquire new weapons, their aging tank force and experiences in the Border War against Angola, the South Africans resorted to making their own weapons with whatever if available to them, including their Centurion Mk3s and their 84mm cannon. It was decided to use the Centurion as a basis for a new indigenous South African tank (as they have no other options available).

The resulting product was a 105mm cannon. This cannon, known as the 105mm Denel GT-3, retains the 84mm's breech assembly, while fitting it with new mounting lugs to fit existing recoil system. The barrel is a similar copy to the original British L7A3's own barrel, with a couple of minute changes to fit in with the different breech assembly. The resulting cannon could fire NATO ammunition.

The Denel GT-3, with the Israeli supplied M111 APFSDS round could penetrate a T-54/55 and T-62 up to a range of 2km. However, most Olifant Mk1A crews preferred HEAT-FS rounds due to it making a much more noticeable impact, considering that the Olifant Mk1A faces Angolan T-54/55 and T-62s that does not have any form of composite or reactive armour.

On Novermber 1987, as part of Operation Moduler, Lt. Hein Fourie destroyed the first T-55 with an Olifant Mk1A armed with the Denel GT-3 cannon. Overall, the Denel GT-3 cannon was successful in its role in modernising the South African army with a tank cannon that is capable of dominating the African battlefield without outside assistance.

Apart from the Olifant, the Denel GT-3 would also be installed in the Tank Technology Demonstrator (TTD) as a placeholder while a 120mm was being developed, which unfortunately was scrapped.

Like the American [[M18 GMC|M18 Hellcat]], the Concept 3 only has 12.7 mm (0.5 in) of armour in most areas, with some areas being only 6.5 mm. As a result, anything at this BR can penetrate this vehicle's armour. Compounding issues, the Concept 3 has ammunition storage scattered all throughout its body. In other words: while incoming fire from the sides is somewhat prone to overpenetration, this cannot be depended upon. Try to avoid being shot at in the first place.
{{main|OQF Mk.II (77 mm)}}

The main gun's recoil is quite strong, coupled with the bouncy suspension, leads to significantly "rocking" after firing, especially from the sides. This makes firing from the move very difficult to the point of impossible. Thus, one should always wait until the gun has settled, or try one's luck.
While lacking the APDS rounds of the [[Comet I]], the Concept 3's rounds are pretty impressive for its BR, capable of penetrating the thickest of armor, including the dreaded [[KV-1 (ZiS-5)]]. The post penetration damage won't be as good as an APHE round, but it is quite acceptable.
== Usage in battles ==
<!-- ''Describe the tactics of playing in the vehicle, the features of using vehicles in the team and advice on tactics. Refrain from creating a "guide" - do not impose a single point of view but instead give the reader food for thought. Describe the most dangerous enemies and give recommendations on fighting them. If necessary, note the specifics of the game in different modes (AB, RB, SB).'' -->The Concept 3 will be the first Rooikat that a player unlocks, and tactics learnt from the Concept 3 would be used again in the production models of the Rooikat. One should consider its large size. This vehicle is extremely large for a scout vehicle, beating the size of a T-34 and a Sherman to some extent. Thus, concealing the Concept 3 is not an option as it will be visible from a mile away (both figuratively and literally). Thus, a Concept 3 driver must rely on its mobility.

As with all Rooikats, the Concept 3 boasts an extremely good mobility. So, the main tactic for the Concept 3 is to zoom fast to a good position, fire until you are satisfied or is under fire, before relocating to another location as quickly as one could. Rooikats are simply good at running. One should prioritize positions that allows an easy escape, such as near a large stack of rocks or a gentle hill. This is also helped by the Concept 3's decent depression angle of -10°. Use it! Apart from that, try to find positions where one can fire at the flanks of an enemy.

This extreme mobility and size comes at a very large cost. The Concept 3 has next to none armour. It could only resist rifle calibre rounds. Everything else will penetrate it with ease. And an even worse news, some part of the Concept 3's armor is thick enough to activate an APHE's fuse. Thus, the Concept 3 should never ever under any circumstances be on an enemy's crosshairs even if they are a stock reserve tank. Just don't.

To sum it up. Be mobile and fast, and never ever on one place. Remember good sniping spots, but never stay in one place. If one were to find themselves being shot at, quickly relocate or hide. As the name suggests, one must hunt like Een Afrikaan Rooikat, an African Caracal. Play it smart, play it fast.

=== Pros and cons ===
<!-- ''Summarise and briefly evaluate the vehicle in terms of its characteristics and combat effectiveness. Mark its pros and cons in a bulleted list. Try not to use more than 6 points for each of the characteristics. Avoid using categorical definitions such as "bad", "good" and the like - use substitutions with softer forms such as "inadequate" and "effective".'' -->

'''Pros:'''

* Excellent gun for its tier, good penetration and decent reload
* Fast with good acceleration when spaded
* Reverse speed is as good as forward speed, allowing for quick getaways
* Above average muzzle velocity

'''Cons:'''

* Solid shot ammunition only, accurate fire is needed to disable vehicles
* Suspension is quite bouncy, making shots difficult
* Turning is slow when stock
* Suffers in soft terrain, sometimes speed will drop massively upon the slightest obstacle
* Negligible armour, vulnerable to artillery overpressure
* Sub-par accuracy at range when stock
* Lacks a smoke grenade launcher

== History ==
<!-- ''Describe the history of the creation and combat usage of the vehicle in more detail than in the introduction. If the historical reference turns out to be too long, take it to a separate article, taking a link to the article about the vehicle and adding a block "/History" (example: <nowiki>https://wiki.warthunder.com/(Vehicle-name)/History</nowiki>) and add a link to it here using the <code>main</code> template.
The Concept 3 was based on the British FV603 Alvis Saracen Armoured Personnel Carrier. It was designed to fulfil a new South African requirement for a "New Generation Armoured Car". The project started in 1976 and ended in 1979. 3 testbed vehicles were made, Concept 3 being one of them. The Concept 3 differed from the Alvis Saracen APCs - it had an 8-wheel configuration, giving it superior off-road characteristics and superior performance. The Concept 3 was fitted with a [[OQF Mk.II (77 mm)|77mm OQF Mk.II]], identical to the one found on the [[Comet I|A34 Comet I]] which, while underwhelming for the time was merely a placeholder and was later swapped for a [[Royal Ordnance L7A1 (105 mm)|105 mm Royal Ordnance L7]] which was a licence built version of the same gun found on the British [[Centurion Mk 10]]. The L7 variant was known as the "Bismarck". The vehicle was built by South African company Sandock-Austral (later merged into BAE Systems), the same company credited with creating and producing the Ratel family ([[Ratel 20]] / [[Ratel 90|90]]) and the [[Eland 90 Mk.7]]. Several tests were conducted over the years at Potchefstroom, South Africa. The Concept 3 series was nicknamed the "Cheetah" and the vehicle was officially designated "Concept 3, Class 2B" and was built to slightly different medium specifications, raising the original weight of the vehicle from a modest 17 tonnes to a rather considerable weight of up to 23 tonnes.

When all is said and done, the Concept series deviated from the original vision of the Armoured Personnel Carrier, morphing into a light Armoured Fighting Vehicle or reconnaissance car. The original intended role of Armoured Personnel Carrier was ultimately fulfilled by the excellent Ratel family which doubled as an effective Infantry Fighting Vehicle. Therefore the South African National Defence Force ultimately cancelled the order for the Concepts, and immediate further development of the Concept programme was promptly terminated.

However, the legacy of the Concept cannot be asserted enough: the basic design of the Concept and in particular its chassis would later become that of the Rooikat family ([[Rooikat 105]] / [[Rooikat MTTD|MTTD]] / [[Rooikat Mk.1D|Mk.1D]] / [[ZA-35]]) which are still used to this day. The Concept, while often forgotten, disregarded and dishonoured is perhaps one of the most - if not the most - influential military vehicle design in South African history.
== Description ==
The Denel GT-3 cannon is an South African cannon developed in their efforts to upgrade existing Centurion with a more powerful cannon. Due to international embargo imposed on the South African state, the South African government must outsource their parts elsewhere.

This cannon uses a modified 105mm barrel while retaining the original [[20pdr OQF Mk.I (84 mm)]] gun breech from their Centurions. The resulting gun could fire NATO compatible ammunitions.
== General info ==

=== Available ammunition ===
Basically, most of the South African shells are literal copies of German shells. Every single shell has the same exact characteristics and their German counterparts. Here are the shell types available for the Denel GT-3. The shells listed in brackets are their original German shells that the South African shells are based upon.
== Description ==
<!-- ''In the description, the first part should be about the history of and the creation and combat usage of the aircraft, as well as its key features.
The French Navy, requiring a carrier borne attacker adopted the design, which was christened as the Etendard IVM.

This is reflected in the Etendard's capability to dogfight other jet fighters, while designated as a Strike Aircraft. The many lessons learnt using the Etendard will be crucial for future French jets, which includes the [[Mirage F1C]].

However, dipping below 800 km/h causes the aircraft to lose much of its turning ability, which requires the pilot to pop out flaps to remain maneuverable. Energy retention is quite poor at all speeds, but once the aircraft is able to get back into a straight line, said energy will be regained quite quickly. The aircraft has a good rate of climb compared to its counterparts.
== Usage in battles ==

However, like many French jets at its tier, it tends to have poor energy retention, and any manoeuvring tends drastically reduce acceleration. This means that a turnfighting play-style is often difficult, and defensive flying is hard to do successfully- the player should avoid gaining a tail if at all possible.

As such, the aircraft's good climbing ability and acceleration make it better suited for a more passive boom and zoom play style, where it is unlikely that an enemy will be able to chase it down. Such a playstyle will require teamwork. The Etendard is by no means a solo carry, and diving in and out of furballs to support teammates is often necessary. In this play style, the player will be easily able to keep a speed above 800 km/h (below which the aircraft's manoeuvrability suffers greatly).

* Above 850 km/h, don't use any flaps, as flaps decreases the Etendard's maneuverability at higher speeds
* 600-850 km/h, pop out combat flaps
* 300-550km/h, utilise takeoff flaps
* 300 km/h and below, lower landing flaps

The above flaps guide for the Etendard is a necessary component of the Etendard, as this is the only way to maintain ideal and competitive maneuverability over other jets. However, it is remain important that a pilot retain most of their aircraft energy, and thus, don't overextend the Etendard's maneuvering capability.

The Etendard has two 30 mm cannons mounted on the bottom side of the aircraft. This can throw off many players' aim, and the only way to resolve this issue is through practice. Another good way to compensate this is by setting the gun convergence around 400-600m with vertical targeting on. While this might help, practice remains necessary.

The aircraft's air-to-air missiles, while less able to lock and track enemies than missiles mounted by other aircraft above its tier, can be very effective against slow targets and unmanoeuvrable bombers such as the [[B-57A|B-57]], [[Tu-14T]] or the Israeli [[Vautour IIA (Israel)|Vautour IIA]] and [[Vautour IIN (Israel)|Vautour IIN]].

Apart from that, the Etendard has access to CCIP for its rockets and bombs, a rarity for 9.0 aircrafts. Other aircrafts that has access to CCIP or CCRP around 9.0 includes [[A32A]], both [[Buccaneer S.1]] and [[Buccaneer S.2|S.2]], and the [[Su-7B]]. Combining the flight performance of the Etendard and access to ballistic computers, this aircraft makes one of the most accurate and effective attacker of its BR, especially in Ground RB. This compensates for its limited suspended armaments compared to its more dedicated attacker peers.

=== Pros and cons ===

* Carrier take-off results in a higher starting speed than a land takeoff
* Better energy retention than the Super Mystere B2
* Access to AS-20 and AS-30 Nord guided missiles
* Has a '''Ballistic Computer''' for rockets and bombs, making it a capable and accurate attacker
