Prior to being loaned to the JMSDF, Yūgure was known as the USS Richard P. Leary (DD-664) and was one of many Fletcher-class destroyers built for the USN during WWII. Commissioned in 1944, the ship took part in some of the last major operations in the Pacific theatre before being decommissioned and put into reserve in 1946.

In 1959, USS Richard P. Leary as well as another Fletcher destroyer were loaned to the JMSDF and was renamed to Yūgure. In Japanese service, the destroyer was modified several times to better fit the anti-submarine warfare and training ship roles. Yūgure would end up serving with the Japanese Navy until 1974 before the ship was returned to the U.S. and ultimately sold for scrap in 1976.
The '''{{specs|name}}''' is a rank {{specs|rank}} Japanese destroyer {{Battle-rating}}. It was introduced in [[Update 1.89 "Imperial Navy"]].

Overall it's a capable, well-rounded destroyer, trading secondary/anti-aircraft armament of most other destroyers for a better torpedo armament.

== General info ==
=== Survivability and armour ===
<!--''Talk about the vehicle's armour. Note the most well-defended and most vulnerable zones, e.g. the ammo magazine. Evaluate the composition of components and assemblies responsible for movement and manoeuvrability. Evaluate the survivability of the primary and secondary armament separately. ''If necessary, use a graphics template to show the most well-protected or most vulnerable points in the armour.''-->

Overall {{PAGENAME}} has average survivability and armour for its battle rating.

She has a {{#unit:jp_destroyer_fubuki|броня|корпус|толщина}} mm of {{#unit:jp_destroyer_fubuki|броня|корпус|материал}} armour on her hull, {{#unit:jp_destroyer_fubuki|броня|надстройка|толщина}} mm on her superstructure, and {{#unit:jp_destroyer_fubuki|броня|башня|лоб}} mm over her main firing tower, which is average for a destroyer in the same BR. Her guns carry 3.175 mm of anti-fragmentation armour that, unlike in the equivalents, provides protection from all directions. Her {{#unit:jp_destroyer_fubuki|crew}} crew count is also average.

Looking at the weak points of her layout, the primary gun turrets are very large and relatively easy to knock out, while hits amidship are very likely to knock out at least one torpedo mount and one of the engines. On the other hand bulk of the ammunition is stored underwater, making it a difficult ship to ammo-rack.

=== Mobility ===
<!--''Write about the ship’s mobility. Evaluate its power and manoeuvrability, rudder rerouting speed, stopping speed at full tilt, with its maximum forward speed and reverse speed.''-->

50,000 IHP coming out of four Kampon boilers and two Kampon 'Ro' geared turbines give her a max speed of ~65 KM/H, which is fairly middle of the road for comparable destroyers. She has a 5.4s rudder shift which is his is decent enough mobility, but won't win any prizes compared to other destroyers. When taking evasive action, the ship's turn rate is faster than the turret's targetting rate, requiring more steady course to re-adjust firing solution.

== Armament ==
=== Primary armament ===
<!--''Provide information about the characteristics of the primary armament. Evaluate their efficacy in battle based on their reload speed, ballistics and the capacity of their shells. Add a link to the main article about the weapon: <code><nowiki>{{main|Weapon name (calibre)}}</nowiki></code>.''
''Broadly describe the ammunition available for the primary armament, and provide recommendations on how to use it and which ammunition to choose.''-->
[[File:Ayanami primaries.jpg|thumb|right|Ayanami's broadside with the HE shells captured]]
{{main|Type 3 (127 mm)}}

The Type 3 127 mm gun found on the Fubuki is mounted on a particular three, twin mount turrets that were historically called a "Model B" or "Type B" (B型砲を, B-gata-hō). They are located in a rear-heavy configuration, bearing one turret in the front and two rear turrets in a super-firing configuration. Guns have two types of shells available: HE and HE-DF. The shell speed of 910 m/s is the second-best among comparable destroyers, exceeded only by a modern [[Albatros-Klasse (143)]], firing shells at 914 to 925 m/s (depending on the type). She has a 7.5s (8 rounds/min) reload speed with a stock crew and a 5.5s (11 rounds/min) reload speed with a fully aced crew, which is one of the lowest fire rates, compensating it with a large number of shells fired in a broadside.

The HE shell has 54 mm (0° angle) of penetration at 1,000 m, dropping off to 27 mm at all angles at 10,000 m. It carries 2.2 kg of a Type 91 explosive filler (military name for the Trinitroanisole) that has an equivalent power of 2.31 kg of TNT. It's a significant upgrade from Mutsuki's 1.95 kg TNT equivalent 120mm HE shell, but relatively low comparing to 3.22 kg TNT equivalent onboard [[Farragut (DD-355)|Farragut's]] [[5 inch/38 Mk.12 (127 mm)|5 inch]].

The HE-DF is delayed fuze ammunition, should be used only to engage enemy aircraft at a distance, supplementing relatively weak secondary armament. While hitting a small target is certainly a difficult challenge, it's much easier than on the predeceasing Mutsuki due to notably higher shell travel speed significantly better vertical guidance (+75° vs +33° on Mutsuki) and a higher targetting speed (5.1°/s horizontal and a whopping 23°/s vertical).

=== Secondary armament ===
<!--''Some ships are fitted with weapons of various calibres. The secondary armament is defined as the weapon chosen with the control <code>Select secondary weapon</code>. Evaluate the secondary armament and give advice on how to use them. Describe the ammunition available for the secondary armament. Provide recommendations on how to use them and which ammunition to choose. Remember that anti-air armament, even heavy calibre weapons, belong in the next section.''
''If there is no secondary armament, remove this section.''-->
{{main|Type 93 (13.2 mm)|l1=13.2 mm Type 93 machine gun}}

The secondary weaponry on the Fubuki consists of two twin 13.2 mm Type 93 machine guns located amidship, on a platform attached to the rear smoke funnel. Practically speaking they are applicable primarily for anti-aircraft role, similarly to the machine guns on the [[IJN Mutsuki|Mutsuki]], but they have notably higher firepower, even if overall they are the weakest secondaries among Ayanami's BR.

Firing 476 RPM with a magazine of 120 rounds of ammunition and a reload speed of two seconds gives them a decent uptime. These Type 93 machine guns can use Universal (T/AP/HEI/AP), HEI or AP belts of ammunition. The AP belts have 26 mm of penetration at 10 m, dropping off to 12 mm at 1,000 m; while the tracer round in the HEI belt has 10 mm of penetration at 10 m, dropping off to 6 mm at 1,000 m. Their traverse is very good, covering up to +80°, however overall these are just two dual machine guns of a relatively low calibre, which is the weakest secondary armament

=== Torpedo armament ===
<!--''Torpedoes launchers are standard equipment on many ships and boats. Torpedoes are a significant means of defeating an opponent. Evaluate the position of the torpedo launchers, discuss the ammunition available, firing specifics such as dead zones, features of the torpedoes themselves, etc.''-->
{{main|Type 90 (610 mm)}}
[[File:Ayanami-torpedo-firing-arcs.jpg|thumb|right|Graphic detailing port firing arcs for each of the launchers, with a total firing arc of 90° and an overlapping arc of 40°]]

The Fubuki-class has three triple torpedo mounts of a 610 mm caliber. They can carry an onboard reload so total amount of torpedoes are 18. Spare torpedo storage are placed on side of funnel and 2nd turret. These torpedoes are the Type 90, which have good speed - 85 KM/H or 52 MP/H - and 7 or 15 km range respectively (Torpedo Mode modification off/on). The Type 90 carries 480 kg of TNT equivalent explosives, which is only beaten out by the [[Type 93 (Disambiguation)#Torpedoes|Type 93s]] found, between others, in subsequent [[IJN Yugumo|Yugumo]]. Overall, they are strong torpedoes for their 4.0 BR, given their good range, fast speed and large explosive filler. Torpedo Mode modification is a tier IV, making it a time-taking unlock.

Unlike on the [[IJN Mutsuki]], launchers on the Ayanami have a much more intuitive setup, with the first, front launcher covering the widest firing arc (80°), but also being the first one to fire when manoeuvring bow-first towards the enemy. Second, middle launcher having relatively decent 66° firing arc and oriented towards rear of the ship is also fairly usable. The tricky one is the third launcher, aiming exactly perpendicular to the ship, and having a very narrow field of fire. It plays more of a support role, forcing the ship to expose its entire length to the enemy. Overall though, it's a very practical setup, making Fubuki-class an extremely dangerous enemy, able to release torpedoes without you knowing it, or cover an entire strait with a wall of torpedoes.

=== Special armament ===
<!--''Depth charges, mines, rocket launchers and missiles are also effective in skilled hands and can take an off-guard opponent by surprise. Evaluate the ammunition of this type of armament and rate its performance in combat.''-->
{{main|Type 95 depth charge}}
The Fubuki can mount eight Type 95 depth charges, located near the rear of the vessel. They have a 100 kg TNT equivalent filler but are less effective at this point without submarines in the game at this time.

== Usage in battles ==
<!--''Describe the technique of using this ship, the characteristics of her use in a team and tips on strategy. Abstain from writing an entire guide – don’t try to provide a single point of view, but give the reader food for thought. Talk about the most dangerous opponents for this vehicle and provide recommendations on fighting them. If necessary, note the specifics of playing with this vehicle in various modes (AB, RB, SB).''-->
Fubuki-class is a good long-range combatant. Fast shell travel speed of her guns enables effective engagement at ranges where enemies would struggle with a response, which is further aided by a relatively fast and long-range torpedoes (that can trade speed for a significant increase in range with the Torpedo Mode modification).

The ship can also be effectively used as a kiter, owning it to a rear-heavy primary armament and an ability to deploy a significant number of a powerful, long-range torpedoes. However, an average speed for the BR makes it far more challenging to choose the engagements when compared to faster Mutsuki.

Top two research priorities should be Tool Set and Fire Protection System. Beyond that its primarily sprint towards Torpedo Mode. Rudder Replacement is generally a must-have for arcade, due to the amount of torpedoes dropped during the battle, while in Realistic mode Propeller Replacement would be a higher priority. Beyond that Ventilation and Shrapnel Protection are always a good add-ons for destroyers. Least important modification in the tree is the Bomb mortar.

* Inadequate secondary armament
* Poses very little threat to the aircraft
* Outgunned within the range of secondaries by any other destroyer in the same BR

The Special-Type Destroyers represented in-game as IJN Fubuki (which is actually Ayanami of the 2nd group of Special-Types) were designed in 1922 due to the Washington Naval Treaty. Under the criteria of a speed of 39 knots (72 KM/H), a 4,000 nautical mile range and a strong torpedo armament, the class were ordered in 1923. Their armament and size were very good for their time and remained a fair enemy up to the end of WW II. They were designed to 'cruise' in the Pacific, as the bow was shaped to provide protection against the weather. Built between June 1928 and March 1933, they fall into three main groups: The Fubuki class, using the Type 3 'A' mount, the Ayanami class, using the Type 3 'B' mount and with other changes, and the Akatsuki class, which had three boilers and a torpedo launcher/turret. However, their heavyweight caused stability issues and after the Fourth Fleet Incident, they were rebuilt in 1935-1937 with more ballast, a slightly different bridge, and less gun and torpedo ammunition. Eight Ayanamis also were retrofitted with Type 3 'C' guns. These rebuilds increased their weight further to 2,000 tons, and over 2,400 with a full load. The Ayanami we have in-game was sunk in November 1942; USN battleship Washington shelled her and causing heavy damage resulting in its scuttling by fellow Ayanami-class ship, Uranami.
== History ==
The Type Ko MTB (甲型魚雷艇, T-51) is a Japanese large MTB affected by German S-boots.

This group separated with two group: No.10 class MTB (T-51a) and No.11 class MTB (T-51b). Currently model is mix of them.

After complete of No.1 class MTB (T-1), news about activity of S-boot from Europe reached to IJN. They start to design copy of them but they had only simple sketch and one civilian motor boat owned by Mitsui family built by Lürssen (builder of S-boat). In that time they did not had experience to build wood iron mixed large boat, so at first they built one prototype. ("Vessel No.600", later No.10 MTB)

No.600 was laid down in July 1942 by Yokohama Yacht Tsurumi factory and completed November 1943. But by the worsening of the war situation, they started mass-production before the test of prototype. Just after they get official detailed drawings of 95-ft type S-boot. Basically design of T-51 and S-boat was same, but they was much to learn.

In design of No.600, they simplify lots of part but design of S-boot was well-crafted one so those simplify cause several problems. They took measures but stability of vessel was not enough and so there are difficulty in practicality.

For engine, they equip four Mark 71 Model 6 engines (water-cool, 920 HP) and two shafts. It was copy of engine of Italian MAS-451 type. In first ship, two engine connected with one shaft by the Vulcan coupling. It cause increase of weight so it exceeded planned displacement. Planned trial displacement was 84.2 t but actual trial displacement reached 89.6 t and max speed decreased. Because of it, since second boat, they equip four shaft and four engine to abolish Vulcan coupling. They name second ship to T-51b, and first ship be T-51a.

T-51a had one 25 mm twin machine gun and four 45 cm torpedoes, but T-51b had three 25 mm single machine guns and two torpedoes.

No.10, No.13 and No.16 were built at Yokohama yacht Tsurumi factory, but other boats built by new shipyard, Yokohama yacht Choshi factory. Finally 10 Type Ko MTBs were laid down but only 8 boats were completed(No.10 - No.17). Construction of Type Ko was cancelled in August 1944. No.18 was planned to equip small diesel engine but it was not completed. Construction of Type Ko MTBs were delayed because No.11 class MTBs need to resolve problem discovered during the test of No.10 MTB. Also Mk.71 Mod.6 engine required advanced technology and production of engine was delayed.

No.10 MTB was dispatched to Truck island just after completed, but fire broke out and sank due to air raid. Also, No.12 MTB was bring out from Choshi to Yokosuka to equip weapons. But just after completed, she sunk because electric motor spark ignited gasoline and exploded.

Other vessels was deployed at Special Attack corps but most of them did not experience the actual battle. Only one boat deployed at Habu port of Izu Oshima attacked enemy submarine.

Also, No.16 MTB equip only two engine. She used space of other engines for hold and used for tender boat of other small MTBs and midget submarines at Kawadana Assault Corps.
[[File:Syonan ammoracks.jpg|thumb|352x352px|Ammo racks for the 120mm cannons]]
The survivability of the Syonan is heavily dependent on what's engaging it. Its hull is armoured similarly to a Destroyer, with 23 mm of steel. This makes it largely immune from smaller caliber fire and certain smaller HE rounds. The only additional armour protection it has is present around the two main guns, 15 mm of antifragmentation armour, which again protects them against smaller caliber guns somewhat reliably.

The Syonan has two main weaknesses though. Firstly its size, because it's so large and slow it will take a huge amount of fire. Not every incoming round will score damage but over time it does all add up. Its size also makes it very vulnerable against torpedoes. The second prominent weakness is that the Syonan is very vulnerable to being ammo racked. This is due to the presence of two very large exposed ammo racks underneath each gun and they can be detonated by a few well placed AP shots, even smaller caliber guns can destroy the ammo rack, so it's important to never present a flat angle of the ammo storage.

=== Mobility ===
<!--Write about the ship's mobility. Evaluate its power and manoeuvrability, rudder rerouting speed, stopping speed at full tilt, with its maximum forward and reverse speed.-->
The Syonan is a relatively slow ship, reaching a max of 36 km/h in RB modes and 55 km/h in AB modes. The real issue though is with its mobility, it's very unresponsive to input and will take a fair while to come to a stop, engage a reverse or turn. Safe to say its mobility holds the ship back a bit, as it spawns with the smaller vessels, its very vulnerable to torpedoes- especially without any mobility upgrades. It also lacks the overall agility to escape from destroyers if caught out in the open.

== Armament ==
=== Primary armament ===
<!--Provide information about the characteristics of the primary armament. Evaluate their efficacy in battle based on their reload speed, ballistics and the capacity of their shells. Add a link to the main article about the weapon: <code><nowiki>{{main|Weapon name (calibre)}}</nowiki></code>. Broadly describe the ammunition available for the primary armament, and provide recommendations on how to use it and which ammunition to choose.-->
{{main|120 mm/45 Type 3 (120 mm)‎}}

The Syonan is equipped with two 120mm Type 3 cannons for its primary weapon. They do a good amount of damage to smaller boats, but the gun handling lets them down, they reload very slowly at around 5-6 rounds a minute on an average crew. The guns also traverse very slowly at around 5 degrees a second, because of this they're a fairly poor weapon at closer ranges when needing to track small fast boats, and if the round misses- you'll have to wait upwards of 10 seconds to fire off another shot. These guns do have viability against some of the larger patrol vessels you'll come across and will be your go-to weapon at longer ranges.

=== Secondary armament ===
<!--Some ships are fitted with weapons of various calibres. Secondary armaments are defined as weapons chosen with the control <code>Select secondary weapon</code>. Evaluate the secondary armaments and give advice on how to use them. Describe the ammunition available for the secondary armament. Provide recommendations on how to use them and which ammunition to choose. Remember that any anti-air armament, even heavy calibre weapons, belong in the next section. If there is no secondary armament, remove this section.-->
{{main|Type 96 (25 mm)}}

The Syonan is equipped with 5 triple mountings and one single mounting of the Type 96 25mm cannon. Against small unarmoured boats, these guns collectively make an for an overwhelmingly powerful weapon, the volume of fire will destroy a small boat within a few seconds if the shots connect. The guns have 15 rounds in the magazine, but reload very quickly, and because of this have no overheating time so they can be fired continuously effectively. The guns come with three belts:

* Universal- A mix of different HE rounds and an AP round, a decent mix for dealing with all types of craft.
* APT- Predominantly armour piercing rounds, effective against armoured targets.
* HEIT- Full HE belt, very high damage but no armour piercing capability.

Overall, the HEIT rounds perform the best, they have a huge damage output and will sink enemy vessels in seconds if a few of the mountings hit, but it's also recommended to take a few AP belts in case you run into an armoured river boat.

=== Special armament ===
<!--Depth charges, mines, rocket launchers and missiles are also effective in skilled hands and can take an off-guard opponent by surprise. Evaluate the ammunition of this type of armament and rate its performance in combat. If there are no special armaments, remove this section.-->
{{main|Type 95 depth charge}}

The Syonan can carry 14 Type 95 depth charges, which can be dropped to maim other naval targets. They have rather limited viability though as most MTBs will be able to outrun the explosion. As this ship is large and slow, the only viability these charges have is against enemy MBTs sneaking up behind you, this is a fair rare occurrence however.

== Usage in battles ==
<!--Describe the technique of using this ship, the characteristics of her use in a team and tips on strategy. Abstain from writing an entire guide – don't try to provide a single point of view, but give the reader food for thought. Talk about the most dangerous opponents for this vehicle and provide recommendations on fighting them. If necessary, note the specifics of playing with this vehicle in various modes (AB, RB, SB).-->
[[File:Syonan (1).jpg|thumb|609x609px]]
First and foremost, the Syonan is a very powerful ship and has the potential to cause incredible damage to the enemy team if in favorable circumstances. It can be devastating against smaller ships, or vessels with little meaningful armour protection, but it's very weak against destroyers and enemy players that know how vulnerable the ammo racks are. Because of this, to be successful, the Syonan needs to played carefully. Advancing too far into the map can be dangerous, as this allows for enemy MTBs to launch torpedoes at you at close range; as the Syonan is very slow, avoiding torpedoes can be very difficult. Because of this, it's recommended to not sail too close to choke points or cover around the hostile parts of the map as this allows for enemies to easily sneak up on you. In any case, watch MTBs closely, if you see them launch torpedoes, you can correct your course ahead of time to assure the torpedoes miss. It's a good idea to do this anyway just in case torpedoes have been launched without you knowing, so try not to sail straight for too long, as you lack the reactive mobility to alter your course quickly.

The most consistent weapon you have access to are the many 25mm cannons spread all over the vessel, consider using these as your main weapon as they present a much more accurate and damaging weapon collectively than you two main cannons. They can work effectively up to around 2,000 meters, any further than this and they will start losing potency. Also, try not to present a flat side angle to your enemies as this makes your ammo rack a very easy target. Try to angle the sides of the ship towards what you're engaging, this will stop some of the smaller caliber AP rounds from penetrating.

=== Pros and cons ===
<!--Summarise and briefly evaluate the vehicle in terms of its characteristics and combat effectiveness. Mark its pros and cons in the bulleted list. Try not to use more than 6 points for each of the characteristics. Avoid using categorical definitions such as "bad", "good" and the like - use substitutions with softer forms such as "inadequate" and "effective".-->

'''Pros:'''

* Extremely potent secondary armament
* Can combat both vessels and aircraft effectively
* Fairly survivable

'''Cons:'''

* Relatively ineffective primary armament
* Very easy to ammo rack
* Fairly slow and unmaneuverable
* Large target, easy to hit
== History ==
Syonan (昭南, name of Singapore under Japanese occupation) is a 11th ship of Mikura class Escort Ship (E20). Currently she is classified with 3rd ship of Hiburi class Escort Ship (E20b).

By the variant of romanization, there are several variant of name in English. (Shonan, Shounan, Syounan, Syōnan, Shōnan)

She laid down in February 23, 1944, and launched July 13, 1944. Since August 5, 1944 she deployed with 1st Maritime Escort Group (海上護衛隊, 1KEg) and escort several convoys between Singapore to Japan.

== History ==
Design Number "T-14", in officially the No.538 class Mortar Torpedo Boat (第五百三十八号型魚雷艇) is the final production model of the Type Otsu Mortar Torpedo Boat (乙型魚雷艇), and also the most mass produced Japanese MTB.

Before WW2, Japanese Navy did not have interest about small crafts, and mainly the Japanese Army build such a crafts. But during the Pacific war US navy start commerce raiding by PT-Boats. To fought against them, IJN start to build the Type Otsu MTB. Ship design taken from Army MGB Ka-Ro, and using a wide variety of used aircraft engines that stocked.

But, stocked engines could not get enough powers, and using various types of engine cause problem of maintenance. To solve these issues, IJN develop the new engine "Kanhon-Type Mark 71 Model 6"(艦本式71号6型). This engine was a copy of Isotta-Fraschini W18 water-cooled engine mounted on MAS-451 import from Italy.

At first, Type T-35 (No.468 class MTB) equip two this engine, but for Japanese factories production of this engine was very difficult and production rate par month was only 3~4. (In later rate improved to 20 per month) Because of it they start to develop Type Otsu MTB with single engine. At first Type T-25 (No.469 class) equip one Mk.71 Mod.6 but hull size was same as former ones so it couldn't get enough speed so they re-design the hull more smaller.

They develop Type T-14 and T-15(No.491 class MTB) and Type T-14 was adopted and mass-production started. Finally, Type T-14 produced 83.
== History ==
Ha-Go Fighting Boat Model 1 (波號戦斗艇一型), also known Se-Ha (せは艇) is a first prototype of Small Escort Boat (小護衛艇). Small Escort Boat was designed for escort "Daihatsu" class landing crafts that transport munitions to offshore islands.

In January 1944, Imperial Japanese Army 10th Technical Research Institute order to Hitachi Zosen Sakurajima shipyard two types of small escort craft. First one called Ha-Go Fighting Boat Model 1 "Se-Ha"(Ha-Go means "Mark A") that equip two 150 hp engine, and second one called Ha-Go Fighting Boat Model 2 "Se-Ni" that equip two 60 hp engine.

Se-Ni completed in October but speed of that boat was only 9 knots so this plan was cancelled. Also Se-Ha completed in December 1944, but by the result of trial engineers decide to modify design to get more speed.

Third design, "Se-Ha Kai" was completed in July 1945. In the trial cruise during October 2 ~ 5, its speed reached to 13 knots so research completed. By the surrender of Japan, it was not adopted formally, but adopted name of Se-Ha Kai will be Type 5 Small Escort Boat. ("Type 5" already in game is Large Escort Boat.)
