The Kh-23M is a modernized variant of the Kh-23, which itself is an evolution of the Kh-66. The 23M is designed to attack small ground and naval targets. Controlled by command radio guidance, a tracer element was used to determine the position of the missile as it was guided to the target. The warhead is a 108kg shaped charge/fragmentation warhead, capable of penetrating 250mm RHA.
== History ==
The story of the Kh-23M starts with the K-66. The K-66 used an K-8 missile air frame with the beam ridding guidance systems of the K-5 AAM. The K-66 was a stop gap measure as it required the pilot to maintain a dive to guide the missile. Regardless it entered service in 1968. Meanwhile development on the Kh-23 continued. Improvements to the motor were made, but the largest different was the switch from the beam guidance system to radio guidance, similar to that of the American bullpup system. The new guidance system allowed the missile to be fired form level flight. The Kh-23 entered service in 1973, a further advanced missile, the laser guided Kh-25, was developed form the Kh-23 with improvements being back-ported to form the Kh-23M which entered service in 1974. A continuous problem with the Kh-23M was the pilot had to pay active attention to guide the missile, meaning in hostile airspace guidance of the missile was usually deprioritized in favor of defensive maneuvers.
As a whole the S-5 family of rockets were developed after the capture of German 55mm R4M rockets. Development began in 1951 as project ARS-57, in 1955 the project reached completion and received the S-5 designation. The S-5 family contains roughly 18 variants, with the S-5M being just one among them. While the S-5 has seen extensive use, it is noted for its poor accuracy. During the soviet invasion of Afghanistan the S-5's were deemed ineffective and were phased out for the larger S-8 rockets.
When using these rockets on the [[IL-28Sh]], it is highly recommended to fire these rockets in short volleys to compensate for the inaccuracy, while preserving rockets and allowing for adjustments in aim. The IL-28Sh can carry 192 of these rockets (12 pods total), but is not recommended to fire in large volleys as it can waste rockets.

The rockets are first fired from the furthest pod from the fuselage.

It is highly recommended to keep the plane levelled due to the placement of the pods.

If these rockets are to be used for the MiG-19PT, it is recommended to expel half of the rockets in a single volley for a target, re-position, and fire the rest on another target.

If there is an SPAA present, it is recommended to expel all rockets in a single volley onto the SPAA, then retreat.
== History ==
As a whole the S-5 family of rockets were developed after the capture of German 55mm R4M rockets. Development began in 1951 as project ARS-57, in 1955 the project reached completion and received the S-5 designation. The S-5 family contains roughly 18 variants, with the S-5K being just one among them. While the S-5 has seen extensive use, it is noted for its poor accuracy. During the soviet invasion of Afghanistan the S-5's were deemed ineffective and were phased out for the larger S-8 rockets.
[[File:Hs820 20mm Cannon belt fed and drum.png|thumb|Depicting the Hs820 20x139mm cannon, with its different feed mechanisms. ]]
''Write an introduction to the article in 2-3 small paragraphs. Briefly tell us about the history of the development and combat using the weaponry and also about its features. Make an air or ground vehicles list on which this weapon is installed in our game.''

The Oerlikon KAD is a 20x139mm gas/blowback autocannon, it is mainly used in anti-aircraft roles. The Oerlikon KAD has two other names, Hs.820 and M139.

== General info ==
''Tell us about the tactical and technical characteristics of the cannon or machine gun.''

Rate of fire: 900-1000/rounds per minute. (996/rpm in game)

Muzzle Velocity: 1000m/s (3460fps)

=== Available shells ===
[[File:M139 Ammo cutaway, .png|thumb|Shows Ammunition used, XM206 is not available in game. ]]
''Describe the shells that are available for the cannon and their features and purpose. If it concerns autocannons or machine guns, write about different ammo belts and what is inside (which types of shells).''

In game there are two shell types across three belts.

Default- API-T/HEF-I (Armor Piercing Incendiary- Tracer/High Explosive Fragmentation-Incendiary )

M594- HEF-I/HEF-I/API-T (Anti-Air)

M601- API-T/API-T/HEF-I (Ground Targets)

The M594 and M601 shell are American shells.

M601- API-T round, up to 53mm of penetration at point blank range, good for attacking light vehicles and some tanks if only from the sides and back. Has a tungsten-carbide penetrator and a .75g XM71 incendiary pellet inside.

M594- HEF-I Good for anti-aircraft use. Has M955 self-destroying fuse, tracer base and 120g of explosive filer.

=== Comparison with analogues ===
''Give a comparative description of cannons/machine guns, that have firepower equal to these type of weapons.''

== Usage in battles ==
''Describe the cannon/machine gun in the game - its distinctive features, tactics of usage against the main opponents. Please don't write a "guide" - do not impose a single point of view, but give the reader food for thought.''

=== Pros and cons ===
''Summarize and briefly evaluate the weaponry in terms of its characteristics and combat effectiveness. Mark pros and cons as a list.''

Effective in a anti-air role, can be effective in a ground role, if used correctly. High muzzle velocity means targets need to led less, its high rate of fire however is a double edged sword. The gun should be fired in short bursts, as its recoil is significant.

'''Pros:'''

High Rate of fire.

High Muzzle velocity.

High pen with M601 rounds (at close range).

*

'''Cons:'''

Eats ammo fast.

Significant recoil, can be hard to control.

Can really only pen targets form the side/back or in weak points.

Ineffective against heavier tanks.

*

== History ==
''Examine the history of the creation and combat usage of this weapon. If the historical reference turns out to be too big, take it to a separate article, taking a link to an article about the vehicle and adding a block "/ History" (example: <nowiki>https://wiki.warthunder.com/(weapon-name)/History</nowiki>) and add a link to it here using the <code>main</code> template.
The history of the Oerlikon KAD is rather convoluted, existing as the same weapon across three different names, the Oerlikon KAD, HS.820 and M139. Despite its high performance, it was out-competed by other guns, however it still found use in aircraft, ground and naval roles. Originally made to replace the Hs.404 cannon, and was based on the swiss 20x139mm FMK round. It's original producers, Hispano-Suiza had its amerments division purchased by Oerlikon in 1970 and was renamed the Oerlikon KAD. The US produce a slightly modified version called the M139. Under the Hs.820 name it was fitted to a number of various weapon mounts for anti-aircraft purposes. Under the m139 title it was fitted on the m114A2 and the MICV-65. <ref>https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hispano-Suiza_HS.820</ref>

The weapon's major selling points were actually ones concerning logistics. The internals of the gun were simplified making it cheaper to produce and easier to maintain. For its size and role the KAD was relatively light, weighing 57 kg(125lb.). The casing for the ammunition had special lubricating coating, eliminating the need to grease the gun. Improved metallurgy and design allowed for extended barrel life, with the average barrel being good for 15,000 rounds. It was also one of the first guns to come with "totally harmless" practice ammunition, used for training and special testing.

The original Hs.820 came with a long list of specialized ammunition types, however only the American munitions are available in game. It was also able to be fitted with two types of anti-tank grenades, launched from the barrel of the gun. Neither of these are in game. <ref>https://www.smallarmsreview.com/archive/pdfdmp.cfm?docid=4716.pdf</ref>
The successor to the Re. 2000 was the Re. 2001, which was in a class with the excellent Macchi M.C. 202, but its operational career was limited, with priority on the scarce DB 601 aircraft engines going to the other fighter. A total of 237 were built, including the original interceptor, and fighter-bomber (CB) and night fighter (CN) variants. First flight was July, 1940. It had the same wing as the Re. 2000, but a new inline engine. This again led to objections by the Italian government about the wing fuel tanks. Redesign meant the first planes weren't delivered until June, 1941. It served in operational squadrons from December, 1941 until the Italian surrender.
Entering the Italian Royal Air Force contest to design a new fighter with a radial engine and large-calibre armament was a new experience for Reggiane. This Italian engineering company had previously only worked on large bombers. However, engineers Roberto Longhi and Antonio Alessio were confident that they could bring something new to the table. The construction of the monoplane fighter they designed for the contest was made from aluminium alloy and inspired by the American Seversky P-35 project. The Re.2000, as its creators called it, underwent extensive testing at the end of the summer in 1939. The fighter demonstrated superb flight and speed qualities compared to the other contest entries. When pitted against the Bf 109 E, the landmark German fighter of its time, the Re.2000 proved more manoeuvrable. Surprisingly, the metal monoplane even outflew the agile Fiat CR.42 biplane in testing! However, the Re.2000 ultimately lost the contest for serial production for the Italian air force – testing revealed leakage problems in the fuel tanks. Foreign customers expressed keen interest in the aircraft – the British ordered 300 units for the RAF (of course, the order was cancelled when Italy joined the war), and Finland, Yugoslavia, Switzerland, and Portugal were also interested. Sweden purchased 60 units of the model and Hungary purchased 70 units and a production license (the Hungarian versions were given the designation “Héja”). The design of the first Re.2000 fighter series was the basis for future developments at Reggiane, being more successful than its ill-fated predecessor.
