== Description ==
<!-- ''In the description, the first part should be about the history of the creation and combat usage of the vehicle, as well as its key features. In the second part, tell the reader about the ground vehicle in the game. Insert a screenshot of the vehicle, so that if the novice player does not remember the vehicle by name, he will immediately understand what kind of vehicle the article is talking about.'' -->
The '''{{Specs|name}}''' is a rank {{Specs|rank}} French medium tank {{Battle-rating}}. It was introduced in [[Update 1.75 "La Résistance"]]. It features the same armament and turret as the [[Lorraine 40t]] on a more robust chassis, similar to that of the [[AMX M4]], in sum, it is a fusion of the former's firepower and the latter's mobility and protection. It is the logical next step to the French rank IV medium tech tree.

The lower part resembles that of a [[Panther D|Panther]]'s hull with its overlapping metal road wheels, its two large fans over the engine deck, its sloped front and back armour and its high profile. There are a few things that distinguishes it from its predecessor: there is not longer a "flat" portion between the LFP and UFP and the two fan casings have been removed. As for the turret, it is quite a classical post-war French design: an oscillating turret fitted with an auto-loader mechanism, a long gun and turret bulge and a thick turret ring.
* There is a 20 mm plate separating the crew compartment from the engine bay at the top of the hull.
* There is a 5 mm plate separating the crew compartment from the engine bay at the bottom of the hull.

The {{PAGENAME}}'s hull is very similar to that of the famous German medium tank, even in armour values. It is only slightly weak from the side, making angling quite ineffective. This armour should be able to deflect incoming shots from the weaker tanks it may encounter at its BR spread, notably the famous Soviet [[D-5T (85 mm)|85 mm D-5T]]. With its good slope, it can easily deflect APCR shots. The only negative point is the turret: it is very weak to incoming shots, with only 45 mm sloped at 52° — it is a bit weaker than a [[T-34-85 (D-5T)]]'s hull. The turret armor is a noticeable downgrade from the [[AMX M4]] that came before it, so you will need to be more careful about taking hits. The only way to avoid being taken down too easily is to increase distance between the AMX-50 position and the enemy. Don't worry about that: the 100 mm gun is suited for that purpose.

While not the fastest tank, the {{PAGENAME}} certainly is capable of many feats of agility. As mentioned in the [[AMX M4]]'s article, this tank may be the slowest French rank IV tank, which is not a bad thing considering French tank's general dynamic game-play at this BR. "Don't put the tank in nasty front-line situations" is the best advice to follow with this tank. As it is, this 800+ HP engine should be able to carry the tank to any location in good time.
The SA47 L/58 is a very potent gun for a rank IV tank: it performs in a similar way to the Soviet [[D-10T (100 mm)|100 mm D-10T]] equipped on the [[T-54/55 (Family)]] series. While not having any HE filler in their AP rounds, the French engineers somehow managed to optimize armour spalling on penetrating shots and muzzle velocity, making these shells very good at long-range engagements. This gun is also mounted with an auto-loader, which provides it with a solid 4 seconds reload time. It has good gun depression and a fast turret traverse, which enables this tank to react quickly to flankers and take solid hulled-down position, its high gun placement minimizes the tank's silhouette behind hills.
This tank features an auto-loading system that removes the need for a crew member to reload the main gun, although a loader is present to restock the auto-loader. A large drum of seven rounds is found underneath the gun breech for rapid use. Once this drum is empty, rounds in the hull will need to be placed in the auto-loader rack before it can be used by the auto-loader, which takes about 14 seconds to perform for one round. Nine rounds are found in three racks near the bottom of the hull behind the driver and machine-gunner while the rest of the stowage is found in the side sponsons above the tracks, aside from a small rack of 5 rounds near the rear of the turret.

Notes:

* Ammo rack 9 is the auto-loader drum and takes priority in being filled at the beginning of the battle, then fills racks 8 through 1.
* If the auto-loader drum is empty, the main gun '''cannot''' fire until ammo is loaded into the auto-loader drum.
* Simply not firing when the main gun is loaded will load ammo from racks 1-8 into the ready rack, as long as there is ammo present in racks 1-8. Firing the main gun will interrupt the loading of the ready racks.
The small calibre of the MAC 31 machine gun makes it largely ineffective against all armoured vehicles but the ones with an open compartment. It still can be used to ping targets as a rangefinding help or to mow down minor obstacles blocking your line of sight.

<!-- ''Describe the tactics of playing in the vehicle, the features of using vehicles in the team and advice on tactics. Describe the most dangerous enemies and give recommendations on fighting them. If necessary, note the specifics of the game in different modes (AB, RB, SB).'' -->
This medium tank performs good in its role, being versatile enough to take many battlefield roles: flanker, sniper and ambusher. The only thing it is insufficient at is absorbing damaging shots: there are too many weak spots on this tank to take anything bigger than HMG to the front. Don't stay too close to the front line since the reverse speed will not allow the tank to escape sufficiently fast and flanking manoeuvres will make the weak sides vulnerable.

=== Pros and cons ===
* High penetration 100 mm main gun with an auto-loader!
* High top speed (57 km/h)
* MAC 31 coaxial MG
* Fast turret rotation speed
* Sloped frontal armour can bounce some lower rank guns and APCR
* Very manoeuvrable
* Great flanker
* Higher velocity than the Soviet[[D-10T (100 mm)|100 mm D-10T]] gun, easier to aim at range.
* Has 5 crew members
* Wide tracks: able to cross all sorts of terrain with good speed.
* Overlapping wheels provide extra 20 mm to the hull's lower side.

'''Cons:'''

* Armour will not protect the tank from rank 4/5 guns
* No explosive filler in shells, one hit KOs from the side are rare.
* One choice of shell. No APHE, no HEAT, no APDS/FS.
* Less penetration than the Soviet 100 mm APCBC, with less post penetration damage.
* Same turret as the [[Lorraine 40t]]: only 45 mm thick.
* Elevation angle is only 15°: it sometimes is a problem.
* Gun elevation speed is slow due to oscillating turret design.
* Large, [[Panther D|Panther]]-like hull, hard to hide.
* Incapacitated loader will disable this tank from shooting its coaxial MG.
* Weak LFP

===Design===
In the late 1940s, the French Army was looking to replace the medium tanks Panther and ARL 44 that were becoming obsolete with a new 50t medium tank. The new tank was to be the future spearhead of French armoured divisions. The French company AMX started working on a proposal which was essentially an improved Tiger II on the drawing board. The project evolved and later resulted in the AMX-50 tank. The AMX-50 present in the game is the second prototype of the project.

===Development===
In order to save weight from the Tiger II's initial weight of 70 tons, the first AMX proposal was an underarmoured version of the Tiger II with only 30 mm armour plates. The French Army quickly indicated that such a thickness was too weak for the intended purpose. The armour of the hull was increased to 80 mm frontally and 40 mm for the sides and the weight-saving measures were then applied to other components. The original turret was changed for an oscillating turret whose design was already available and the suspension wheels were redesigned to get rid of the interleaving wheels. The new version was approved and a first prototype dubbed M4 was produced at the end of 1949 with a 90 mm SA 45 gun and a weight slightly above 50 tons. The second prototype called AMX-50/100 was produced 1 year later with the 100 mm SA 47 L/50 gun, a slightly modified turret and a weight close to 55 tons. After testing in 1952 and 1953, the French Army reclassified the AMX-50 as heavy tank as it could not reach more than 50 km/h on roads and 20 km/h off-road due to an insufficient output of the powerplant. The tank had a ratio of 15 hp/ton against the 20 expected. The availability of the more modern M47 medium tank through NATO cooperation made the need for the AMX-50 obsolete. Following its reclassification, there were several attempts to transform the AMX-50 in a real heavy tank like the AMX-50 Surbaissé or the AMX-50 Surblindé. But the need for heavy tanks would gradually disappear with the appearance of shaped charges (HEAT projectiles and missiles).

===Combat usage===
The AMX-50 never saw either service or combat action with the French Army.
* There is an engine grille on the roof which is also only 5 mm thick. A weak point planes might look to take advantage of.
* This vehicle unfortunately hull breaks quite easily.
* A tightly spaced crew of three makes it easily taken out by machine guns and autocannons.
{{tankMobility|abMinHp=248|rbMinHp=142}}

The AUBL/74's mobility is great. It can reach up to 100 km/h, with an average speed off-road of 46-56 km/h. It retains nice control over manoeuvrability even at high speeds. However, mobility really suffers on snow or mud and severely hampers your speed. The {{PAGENAME}} also has amphibious capabilities, although speed in the water is limited to around 4 km/h.
== Usage in battles ==
<!-- ''Describe the tactics of playing in the vehicle, the features of using vehicles in the team and advice on tactics. Refrain from creating a "guide" - do not impose a single point of view but instead give the reader food for thought. Describe the most dangerous enemies and give recommendations on fighting them. If necessary, note the specifics of the game in different modes (AB, RB, SB).'' -->

This vehicle should be played as either a Scout, Flanker or a Sniper. Use your mobility to transport from one sniper position to another. '''Never''' brawl unless you have to. Due to the highly mobile platform (FIAT Type 6616), your mobility is one of the best in its class. Use your mobility to get to a good attack position early in the game to launch a surprise attack from the side. Use the terrain and obstruction to hide from enemy. Use the "free-look" button ("C" by default) to look around frequently to learn the situation around you. Make sure nobody is looking at your way before you poke out and fire.

The AUBL/74 trades armour for mobility, you don't have any armour on this vehicle. With only 8 mm of armour on the front of the hull, the armour on this vehicle won't even stop high calibre machine gun fire at mid-range. Don't even think about taking a shot, it's impossible unless it's a sub calibre APDS or APFSDS round in which case it may pass straight through the vehicle without inflicting any damage.

The main armament on this vehicle is a 60 mm HVG cannon made by OTO Melara. It can fire two rounds including APFSDS and HE. The HE shell is useless due to the small calibre. The only shell you will use is M300 APFSDS shell. It will penetrate 249 mm of armour at close range, fairly decent as a light tank but not enough to penetrate the front of some heavy tanks. Due to the small calibre, the damage it inflicts is limited. Try to launch attacks from the side or rear of the target, and aim for important modules first like the gunner or cannon breech. You might not get a one shot kill but you will divert the opponents' attention away from your teammates. The cannon is two-plane stabilised which gives you an advantage to shoot first as a light tank. Make good use of it.

=== Pros and cons ===
<!-- ''Summarise and briefly evaluate the vehicle in terms of its characteristics and combat effectiveness. Mark its pros and cons in a bulleted list. Try not to use more than 6 points for each of the characteristics. Avoid using categorical definitions such as "bad", "good" and the like - use substitutions with softer forms such as "inadequate" and "effective".'' -->

'''Pros:'''

* High engine HP/weight ratio and amazing top speed
* Perfect mobility on roads and urban environments
* Decent speed on plain fields, enough to keep up with light tanks
* Easy to control even at high speeds
* A rather small size vehicle, difficult to target and easy to hide
* Smoke grenade launchers located on the turret, a player can choose which side of the tank to cover
* Has an anti-aircraft light machine gun
* Decent armament for a light tank: acceptable rate of fire and penetration plus near-perfect accuracy using APFSDS
* APFSDS rounds have excellent angled penetration, very useful against targets such as the Strv 103s
* Two-plane stabilizer allows accurate fire on the move
* Gets the premium tank boost to XP and SL
* Can navigate water features
* Outfitted with night vision devices

'''Cons:'''

* Stabilizer only works up to 75 km/h
* Horrible mobility in shallow water and snow results in heavy dependence on roads
* The main gun, while accurate, has a low calibre of 60 mm, more than one shot is often required to take out an enemy tank
* Small crew of three
* Next to no armour, vulnerable even to light machine gunfire
* Easily taken out by SPAA and other light tanks
* Driver's viewports greatly limit the gun depression on front-right of the tank
* All six smoke grenades are launched at once
* While swimming, it can only go around 4-5 km/h
* Does not have thermal vision capabilities

AUBL/74 HVG, originally named "FIAT Type 6616", was a further development of the [[FIAT 6614|FIAT Type 6614]]. Different from the FIAT Type 6614 which had a personal carrier focus, Type 6616 is designed to carry heavier armament for the armoured platoons of the mobile battalions of the Barabinier. Type 6616 provided different armament possibilities such as 7.62 mm machine gun, Rheinmetall MK20 Rh202 autocannon, 60 mm OTO Breda T60 quick firing HVG and 90 mm Cockerill Mk.3 cannon. The first prototype was completed in 1972 and entered service in 1975 with a total of 185 units produced. Besides Italy, FIAT Type 6616 is also in service in Libya, Peru and Somalia.
In the second part, tell the reader about the ground vehicle in the game. The '''{{Specs|name}}''' is a rank {{Specs|rank}} British medium tank {{Battle-rating}}. It was introduced in [[Update 1.69 "Regia Aeronautica"]].

The Vickers MBT is like a sniper, designed to engage with minimal threat to the tank and its crew while still being a major thorn in the enemy's side. Stick to the knowledge of the maps you'll be playing on to enhance your defensive playstyle, grabbing husks of old tanks or tank ditches to your advantage then bursting out of cover to ambush enemies. The tank has a mediocre off-road top speed of 20 mph (stock), yet can do 7 mph in reverse, so don't be afraid to duck back into cover.

That being said, the Vickers has pitiful armour that rarely stands up to any punishment other than SPAA, and even then this is true for the front armour. The ~100 mm frontal armour on the turret is good for stray or hurried shots, although the lack of slopes inhibits your chances of bouncing shots, let the environment do this for you.

Suspension is quite strong on this tank, and so in AB spaded {{PAGENAME}} can climb mountains, which are supposed to be unreachable by players. As an example, the plateau on [[Korea_(Ground_Forces)|38th Parallel's]] south - even indestructible stone "guard rails", which were ''specifically'' placed to prevent this from happening, cannot stop an experienced {{PAGENAME}} player from going up. It can even tow other tanks up there if their suspension allows it.

The 12.7 mm L21A1 machine gun is specifically used to determine ranging for the main gun. While the game indicates a very short clip of 3 rounds, it is in fact more accurate to say that the MG only fires small bursts of 3 rounds. It is not fired alongside the other machine guns but through the "Fire from secondary guns" option (Controls > Ground Vehicles > Weaponry).
== Usage in battles ==
Although it can be done with its excellent reload speed of 5-7 seconds (crew skill depending), mixing ranks with the enemy is ill advised: instead take upon a sniping role. Your gun has only two types of ammo, both stock so research is not required for enhanced destruction. That being said, the APDS is a potent weapon that has 302 mm of pen at 100 m, falling to 252 mm at 2500 m: all ranges can be targeted, with enemies moving towards more manoeuvrability over armour in the high ranks. However, the rounds lack spalling potential, so the damage inflicted on a tank interior must be in the APDS direct path past the penetration. If you aim for the turret weak-spots, the barrel or breech will be your most common hits, incurring 20-30 precious seconds of repair time. If for any reason you're forced to engage while exposed, attempt to disable the enemy's gun or gunner first, before utilizing the excellent reload time to finish the target off.

The HESH shell is a very different story. While this odd round has its uses, it's somewhat limited in effectiveness against many targets. HESH, which stands for High Explosive Squash Head, relies on this so called 'squash head' spreading as much as possible, creating a spalling effect within the targeted vehicle. This means that it's not particularly effective against thick armour; and it should rather be used against lightly-armoured targets or targets which rely on highly angled armour for survivability. Generally, Vickers tankers will learn to prefer their APDS round for most engagements, only resorting to HESH against select targets.

Some enemies that can be rough to deal with:

* The Lorraine 40t will bounce more shots than you care to admit, or your hits will do minor damage. Just out the nature of the reserved play style this tank likes, any fast tanks will be a problem due to their ability to close the gap as you attempt to reach your favourite position. Engine and transmission upgrades will lessen this, in time.
* All Russian tanks are difficult to deal with, yet learning their weak spots will lead you to victory. German tanks are a problem due to their accuracy and fast reload times, however the cheeks of their turrets are prime targets for eagle-eyed gunners.

=== Pros and cons ===

'''Pros:'''

* Stock APDS shell has very high penetration values
* Gun fires APDS shell at over 1,400 m/s
* HESH ammunition is effective against lightly-armoured vehicles
* Has a 12.7 mm L21A1 machine gun which is used for range finding for HESH shells
* Fast reload speed, at best 5 seconds
* Above average reverse speed compared to some British tanks
* Excellent maneuverability, even over rough terrain
* A good counter to Russian heavy tanks (IS-3, IS-6, IS-4) if you know the weak spots

'''Cons:'''

* Poor armour, even lower ranked guns are quite a threat
* While top speed is around 49 km/h, you will rarely hit it
* Depression of only -7° which is below average for British tanks
* APDS causes minimal post-penetration damage, meaning that destroying some vehicles can be a challenge
* Many SPAA vehicles can penetrate your sides or back
* The L21A1 machine gun has a very low fire rate (5 rounds/second) and only shoots low-penetration incendiary rounds
* Lacks ammunition choices, only has access to APDS and HESH

== History ==
<!-- ''Describe the history of the creation and combat usage of the vehicle in more detail than in the introduction. Vickers-Amstrong Company designed Vickers MBT in the sixties as a cheap and efficient variant of the Chieftain, ready to be exported. In 1961, India purchased the license for development, and Vickers-Armstrong helped to set up the factory. Over the course of its life, many variants were developed, including the Mk.2 and Mk.3. Later, Vickers Valiant(Mk.4) in 1977 and finally Mk.7 MBT. Currently, Kenya, Nigeria, and Tanzania are the foremost operators.
The '''{{Specs|name}}''' is a gift rank {{Specs|rank}} Chinese medium tank {{Battle-rating}}. It was introduced in [[Update 1.91 "Night Vision"]].

== General info ==
=== Survivability and armour ===
<!--Describe armour protection. Note the most well protected and key weak areas. Appreciate the layout of modules as well as the number and location of crew members. Is the level of armour protection sufficient, is the placement of modules helpful for survival in combat? If necessary use a visual template to indicate the most secure and weak zones of the armour.-->

The hull is very similar to the American [[M4|M4 Sherman]], with a 50.8 mm thick upper glacis and protruding hatches interrupting the glacis ( augmented with applique armour). Weak spots here include the machine gun port and ventilator on the right side. The hull sides feature applique armour plates covering the ammunition storage racks. The turret is also very similar but lacks the applique armour on the right cheek, leaving a small weakened zone in that area. Frontal protection is quite good for its rank and shots from smaller anti-tank guns can generally be shrugged off, particularly when hull down. However more powerful guns such as the [[Pz.IV F2|Panzer IV F2's]] long 75mm can destroy the tank easily, so care should be taken. Guns with good penetration against sloped armor, such as those on the [[YaG-10 (29-K)]] and [[SU-85]] are particularly threatening as they are more than capable of penetrating your frontal armor without much issue. There are also a number of weakspots, notably, the flatter armor in front of the driver and machine gunner, the hull machine gun, the round section of armor in front of the right ammo rack, the rounded area in front of the transmission, and a thin square shaped section of armor on the front of the turret to the right of the main gun. The side armour is only 38.1 mm thick and can be easily penetrated by just about any anti-tank gun, even many anti-aircraft guns, but the applique armour on this model can help if the tank is angled.

=== Mobility ===
''Write about the mobility of the ground vehicle. Estimate the specific power and manoeuvrability, as well as the maximum speed forward and backwards.''

== Armaments ==
=== Main armament ===
<!--Give the reader information about the characteristics of the main gun. Assess its effectiveness in a battle based on the reloading speed, ballistics and the power of shells. Do not forget about the flexibility of the fire, that is how quickly the cannon can be aimed at the target, open fire on it and aim at another enemy. Add a link to the main article on the gun: <code><nowiki>{{main|Name of the weapon}}</nowiki></code>.
The M4A4 is armed with both a pintle-mounted 12.7 mm M2HB .50 cal machine gun and a coaxial 7.62 mm M1919A4 .30 cal machine gun. The latter is useful as a secondary machine gun to supplement the larger 12.7 mm machine gun, both increasing the volume of fire you can put out in a burst of your machine guns and providing a backup machine gun in case your .50 cal gunner runs out of ammo or is knocked out. The 12.7 mm machine gun is more useful as it does more damage and has more penetration. It can swivel independently of the main gun, but not a full 360 degrees around so you will still need to traverse the turret to follow moving targets. Both can be used to shoot at aircraft and unarmored spots on enemy vehicles, and the .50 cal specifically is capable of damaging vehicles with very light armour due to the penetration.
Try not to use more than 6 points for each of the characteristics. Avoid using categorical definitions such as "bad", "good" and the like - use substitutions with softer forms such as "inadequate" and "effective".-->

'''Pros:'''

* Good armour and mobility, quite versatile
* Vertical gun stabilizer is helpful for landing the first shot
* Excellent gun depression
* Gun has good penetration and post-penetration damage when using M61 shells
* Pintle mounted HMG is useful against soft targets and aircraft
* Fast reload for its rank
* Premium vehicle, bonuses to research and Silver Lion gain

'''Cons:'''

* High profile
* Has a number weak points in its armour, front has areas with less slope and sides are thin
* Armour is much less effective against guns with good angled penetration
* Decorative designs and inscriptions on the tank can make it slightly easier to spot

===Vehicle background===
The M4A4 (1st PTG) was one of many '''M4 medium tanks''' armed with a 75 mm gun provided by the U.S to China through the lend-Lease program in April 1944. It saw service during World War 2 (1939-45) in China against the Japanese and went on to serve in the China civil war (1946-49) where it was destroyed by China communist forces in 1949. The tank had a "Tiger face" painted on it's manlet and "claws" painted on the armored plate in front of the driver. The top of the tank was painted yellow in order for it to be recognized by allied air unit.
The '''{{Specs|name}}''' is a gift rank {{Specs|rank}} German tank destroyer {{Battle-rating}}. It was introduced in [[Update 1.87 "Locked On"]] as a reward in the [https://warthunder.com/en/news/6145-special-battlefield-engineer-en "Battlefield Engineer"] event.

Also known as the [[wikipedia:Grille_10|Grille 10]], the Flak 37 auf '''S'''onder'''f'''ahrgeste'''l'''l (German: special purpose-built vehicle), or the abbreviated technical name Sfl.IVc, was originally developed as a mobile gun platform using 8.8 cm flak guns.

Designed by the Krupp corporation originally as an anti-tank vehicle in 1941, it was realized that by using 8.8 cm flak cannons, it could achieve not only an anti-tank role but also an anti-aircraft one as well. Because of this, this vehicle was given the 8.8 cm Flak 41 as its main and only armament.

== General info ==
=== Survivability and armour ===
<!-- ''Describe armour protection. Note the most well protected and key weak areas. Appreciate the layout of modules as well as the number and location of crew members. Is the level of armour protection sufficient, is the placement of modules helpful for survival in combat? If necessary use a visual template to indicate the most secure and weak zones of the armour.'' -->
The {{Specs|pseudonym}} has decently high survivability in battle, utilizing its thin armour to great effect. After all,''"no armour is the best armour".'' The vehicle is effective both with side skirts up and down and out of the way. The Versuchsflakwagen does not have hull-break, so there is no need to worry about high caliber HE shells triggering instant destruction of the vehicle.

When the side skirts are in the up position, they will cover the sides of the exposed crew and gun, offering two layers of 5 mm armour, adding up to a total of 10 mm of armour which can protect you from oncoming machine gun fire. They may also prevent damage by shrapnel from artillery barrages that land near, though not directly on your vehicle. However, they will not hold up to a round fired from the main gun of a tank. Fortunately, due to the thin armour, enemy shells may simply pass through without detonating, only doing minor damage depending on where they hit. Its armour is not enough to protect it from high caliber machine guns and autocannons.

With the skirts down, the tank destroyer can easily be disabled due to the exposure of the four crew members to the elements, or the gun being taken out of commission. On the other hand, if the tank, gun, or both are still in action, the front panels of the Flak 41 can be used to block machine gun fire, effectively protecting any crew still remaining to operate the gun. Folding the side skirts down also allows the turret to rotate 360 degrees horizontally.

In both configurations, the crew is very spaced out, and separated by armour into three groups, greatly enhancing its suitability. It is near impossible for an enemy tank to take out all its crew members in a single shot. The loader, gunner, and commander can be killed by a shot to the left of the turret, but both crew members in the driving compartment and the second loader will likely survive so you can escape. The only real danger of the VFW being destroyed in one hit would either be from an ammo rack detonation, which is unlikely as all the ammunition is safely stored in the hull, or from a bomb or artillery landing too close. Beware that its survivability depends solely on crew count and placement rather than armour. In other words, you can easily take one or two hits, but ultimately there is a limited number of shots you can tank before you are sent back to the hangar.

{{main|FlaK 41 (88 mm)}}

The VFW is armed with the Flak 41 cannon allowing it to disable or destroy a majority of its intended targets within its battle rating range. The reload speed of the gun is around 5 seconds which allows for quick and consistent firing upon targets. Do note that folding the sides skirts up will slow its reload speed down by approximately 2 seconds which can detract from this advantage.

Because of its great cannon and non existent armour, the VFW is best used as a glass cannon for long range engagements. Find a spot on a hill or slope and wait for targets. If use in urban area is unavoidable, choose the "side skirts down" mode. This makes the cannon more flexible and gives you a quicker reload time. Make sure to stay in cover, since with your side skirts down, you will be an easy target for planes and artillery.
Avoid using categorical definitions such as "bad", "good" and the like - use substitutions with softer forms such as "inadequate" and "effective".'' -->

'''Pros:'''

* A very fast reload on a ''very'' powerful gun
* Surprising durability, very difficult to one-shot
* Large crew allows for fast reloading
* Reasonable transverse allows for quick escape when in a tight spot
* Side-skirts can be raised for added protection from machine guns
* Side-skirts can be lowered for a greater range of turret movement

'''Cons:'''

* Virtually nonexistent gun depression
* Very thin armour, exposed crew and wide vehicle profile (large target)
* Extremely vulnerable to virtually any form of enemy aircraft or artillery fire
* Raised side-skirts to restrict turret movement, an immobilized VFW can only fire at vehicles directly in front of it
* Side-skirts can only be raised or lowered before the start of the game

The VFW was the first of several projects of the Krupp company to mount a heavy anti-air gun on a mobile armored chassis. This initially developed version, which mounts the 8.8cm FlaK 41 cannon onto a heavily modified Panzer IV chassis, was created in 1944.

Initial tests of the vehicle were performed throughout 1944. However, apart from tests producing mixed results, it was lacking interest that eventually led to the project's ultimate cancellation later that year. As a result, the VFW never left prototype stage and only a single experimental vehicle was ever produced.
The '''{{Specs|name}}''' is a rank {{Specs|rank}} American light tank {{Battle-rating}}. It was introduced during [[Update 1.73 "Vive la France"]] as part of a vehicle giveaway on War Thunder's 5th anniversary.

== General info ==
=== Survivability and armour ===
The M8 Greyhound has next to no armour protection. Its armor can stop rifle-caliber machine gun fire, but nothing more. Even then, the vehicle's turret has an open roof and very thin armour on the sides and the rear, so it is still possible for a few unlucky machine gun bullets to find their way inside. The Greyhound also has hull-break, however, generally speaking, losing all your crew members is a greater concern especially given that most vehicles at its battle rating do not have very powerful cannons. In addition, the modules are lined up and the crew is close together when looking straight at the front of the vehicle. From the side, however, this is not the case- there is a small area behind the two crew members in the turret but in front of the fuel tank with no modules in it, and an even larger area of empty space between the turret crew and the driver/machine gunner. Thanks to the thin armour, it is very possible for rounds to over-penetrate and pass through without dealing significant damage. The vehicles size, or lack thereof, should also be taken into account. The M8 Greyhound is very small and short, making it easy to exploit hiding spots and hills for protection. It can stay out of sight and use stealth to its advantage with little trouble. The .50 caliber machine gun on the roof is raised up, but there are no critical modules surrounding it and it is relatively small so it can be used to shoot over obstacles without risking damage to the armoured car. While the raw armour and protection on the M8 Greyhound is lacking, where it shines is in its ability to hide and use its good top speed to get around quickly and avoid being hit.
<!--Summarise and briefly evaluate the vehicle in terms of its characteristics and combat effectiveness. Mark its pros and cons in a bulleted list. Try not to use more than 6 points for each of the characteristics. Avoid using categorical definitions such as "bad", "good" and the like - use substitutions with softer forms such as "inadequate" and "effective".-->

'''Pros:'''

* Roof mounted .50 caliber machine gun can easily damage plenty of tanks at its tier and is useful against planes
* Roof mounted machine gun can traverse 360 degrees, unlike most roof mounted MGs
* Very fast on-road speed
* Fast turret traverse speed
* Fast reload speed
* High penetration for its tier
* Enemy rounds can over-penetrate without dealing much damage due to low armour

'''Cons:'''

* No tracks, cannot turn in place
* Lackluster off-road mobility compared to tracked vehicles
* Wide turning radius, can make maneuvering difficult
* Low armour and open turret roof
* Crew and modules are packed close together from a front perspective
The M8 replaced the M3A1 Scout Car and M2 Halftrack as the main armoured vehicle of the US mechanized cavalry starting in late 1943. 8,500 were built. The vehicle's lightweight and 6x6 drive gave it excellent speed and cross-country mobility. It was well-liked by the crews but was still thin-skinned and under-gunned when compared to the opposition.
== General info ==
=== Survivability and armour ===
''Describe armour protection. Note the most well protected and key weak areas. Appreciate the layout of modules as well as the number and location of crew members. Is the level of armour protection sufficient, is the placement of modules helpful for survival in combat?''

''If necessary use a visual template to indicate the most secure and weak zones of the armour.''

=== Mobility ===
''Write about the mobility of the ground vehicle. Estimate the specific power and manoeuvrability, as well as the maximum speed forwards and backwards.''

== Armaments ==
=== Main armament ===
''Give the reader information about the characteristics of the main gun. Describe in general terms the ammunition available for the main gun. Give advice on how to use them and how to fill the ammunition storage.''

=== Additional armament ===
''Some tanks are armed with several guns in one or more turrets. Evaluate the additional weaponry and give advice on its use. Describe the ammunition available for additional weaponry. Give advice on about how to use them and how to fill the ammunition storage. If there is no additional weaponry remove this subsection.''

=== Machine guns ===
''Offensive and anti-aircraft machine guns not only allow you to fight some aircraft but also are effective against lightly armoured vehicles. Evaluate machine guns and give recommendations on its use.''

==Usage in battles==
<!-- Describe the tactics of playing in the vehicle, the features of using vehicles in the team and advice on tactics. Refrain from creating a "guide" - do not impose a single point of view but instead give the reader food for thought. Describe the most dangerous enemies and give recommendations on fighting them. If necessary, note the specifics of the game in different modes (AB, RB, SB). -->
