Description
<!-- In the description, the first part should be about the history of the creation and combat usage of the vehicle, as well as its key features. In the second part, tell the reader about the ground vehicle in the game. Insert a screenshot of the vehicle, so that if the novice player does not remember the vehicle by name, he will immediately understand what kind of vehicle the article is talking about. -->
The C1 Ariete was developed by Consorzio Iveco OTO Melara (CIO) during the late Cold War to allow the Italian army to equip itself with a modern tank which could easily deal with Yugoslav and Warsaw Pact tanks. The AMV PT1 is a further development of the C1 Ariete, it being the first prototype of the AMV program which aims to upgrade several features to improve the tank and extend its life. The PT1 specifically features mobility improvements which allows the tank to be on par in terms of mobility with the rest of the top-tier MBTs.

Introduced in Update "Sky Guardians", the C1 Ariete AMV is one of the staple tanks of the Italian tech tree, that you can add to your lineup. As a tier 1 mod you get access to the CL3143 APFSDS round which will greatly help you when grinding the vehicle. It's a great MBT when used by players who can work around its weaknesses, keep in mind that unlike the previous Ariete you don't have access to the WAR add-on armour kit.

Fun fact: this MBT is the newest vehicle in the game, first shown in February 2022 during testing for the C1 Ariete upgrade
The C1 Ariete AMV can be played in different roles. It can be played as a sniper due to its decent APFSDS rounds, good thermal and laser rangefinder, however you must not over expose yourself since the armour of the tank cannot withstand any hit from any top tier rounds, even some chemical projectile can penetrate the armour of the Ariete, even in the turret. Due to its improved mobility and very powerful round the Ariete fits perfectly in the "glass gun" role, flanking the enemy and hitting them from the side. However the Ariete cannot be used as a brawler since, as previously mentioned, its armour isn't great, and its rounds aren't protected by any kind of blowout panels which means that any penetrating rounds will result if a one shot.

To sum up, the Ariete is very good at long range and as a glass gun but you have to keep in mind that you can not rely on your armour at all.

Pros and cons
<!-- Summarise and briefly evaluate the vehicle in terms of its characteristics and combat effectiveness. Mark its pros and cons in a bulleted list. Try not to use more than 6 points for each of the characteristics.
Pros:

* The CL3143 APFSDS round is a tier 1 modification
* Decent forward mobility, even better than previous Ariete due to mobility upgrade
* The commander has access to thermal sights, and both gunner and commander thermals are Gen 2 (higher resolution)
* Outstanding gun handling characteristics
* Quick and responsive reverse
* Fairly decent and reactive mobility at medium to high speeds
* Quick neutral steering
* DM53, combined with great thermals and a laser rangefinder make for an exceptionally deadly sniper
* Unlike other NATO MBTs, there is no ammo rack in the turret bustle: a penetration in the turret rarely destroys the tank in one shot

Cons:

* Mediocre overall armour protection even against chemical projectiles
* Unprotected ammo stowage
* Placement of crew members and first stage ammo rack make hits to the hull fatal
* The DM53 APFSDS round is a tier 4 modification
* Russian tanks, protected by explosive reactive armour, can at times directly withstand DM53
* Lacks roof-mounted machine gun from the previous C1 Arietes

The history of the C1 Ariete begins during the late stages of the Cold War, with a program born out of the need of the Italian army to modernize the fleet of tanks they had during the Cold War, which were the Leopards and M60s. Those tanks would be considered obsolete, considering the fact that many countries around the world who adopted such designs had either put them out of service or replaced them for something more modern. To make the new Italian MBT, Italy put Iveco and OTO Melara in charge. Iveco dealt with the hull, transmission, and engine, while OTO Melara took care of the turret, cannon, and the installation of optical sights. After many changes, and a couple of wooden mock-ups, the C1 Ariete (P), would first be shown to the public, at a presentation inside of La Spezia in 1987. Development kept on continuing towards the year of 1990, which allowed both Iveco and OTO Melara to refine the C1 Ariete's design. Deliveries were scheduled to first take place in 1993, however due to some setbacks (likely funding) it wouldn't be until 1995 that the first C1 Ariete production deliveries actually took place. At first an order of 300 tanks would be made, but due to the Cold War coming to an end, it was reduced to only 200 units, which would all finally be delivered on 7th August 2002.

The tank would feature a set of improvements from previous designs, for example the first C1 Ariete production models had access to the TURMS 3rd generation LTFCS made by Officine Galileo, which gave the capability to the Ariete to fire on the move, both during the day and at night. However later down the line, the last 50 Arietes would receive an upgrade of their sights, which resulted in many improvements, such as allowing the C1 Ariete commanders to have access to thermal imaging. In terms of armaments, the C1 Ariete (P) and C1 Ariete Production had access to a 120 mm smoothbore gun, made by OTO Melara, with similarities to the German made L44. The cannon would be suited to fire the majority of NATO standard munitions. Another improvement included better protection compared to the previous vehicles, it would be one of the more vital aspects of the Ariete. The tank would be delivered up until the early 2000s when the Ariete would begin to be the only official tank in service, while the Leopards and M60s would be fully phased out and put in storage.

Since then however, the Ariete has had quite the bumpy ride when it came to upgrading the machine; the Italian army was not against upgrading it, but there was a common issue that would plague the development: costs. The first proposed upgrade for the C1 Ariete would be what is known as the "C2 Ariete". After the tank had finished being designed, many nations at the time already had better vehicles in service, for example Germany would already have the Leopard 2A5. The C2 Ariete would have featured a lot of improvements, which included new updated armour, an autoloader, new engine, and also new updated FCS. However this never ended up happening and as such the C2 Ariete would remain only a proposal on paper. Another potential upgrade for the C1 Ariete, the C1 Ariete Hitfact Mk2, was likely not even considered by the Italian army but it would still feature a set of advancements that technically speaking would make it still a better machine than the production vehicles, such as the new cannon and optics. Also all Ariete's are equiped with a 7.62mm Beretta Mg 42/59 Machine gun.

AMV upgrade

The C1 Ariete AMV, standing for "Ammodernamento di Mezza Vita" (English: "Mid Life Update"), is likely to be the final upgrade to the C1 Ariete. This upgrade was conceptualised many years ago but it's only in recent times that progress has been seen with such a program. The AMV program will attempt to extend the life of the C1 Ariete up until 2030/2035, where by then it is presumed that a new design will take over. The AMV program will feature 3 prototypes at first, the AMV PT1, which will feature improvements to the hull, the PT2 which will feature improvements to the hull and turret, and finally the PT3 which will incorporate improvements to both the turret and hull whilst also likely being used to test hard-kill APS.

The improvements in the Ariete AMV PT1 are as follows: increase in power from 1,250 to 1,500 horsepower, sadly this was not obtained with the installation of a new engine, but instead with the application of an upgrade kit on the current engines that the C1 Ariete utilize, which were completely disassembled and rebuilt with the constitution of numerous new elements, most of which derive from the V8 of the B2 Centauro II. One of the other ways it's better protected is thanks to the installation of the Anti-IED/Mine kit. The crankcase is also the same, but the displacement has been increased from 26 to 30 litres by changing cylinders, pistons, and crankshaft, increasing the stroke of the cylinders. In order to better receive and manage the greater power offered by the improved engine, called V12AMV for now, changes would also be made on the automatic gearbox produced under license from the German ZF, this provided the necessary calculations for the changes necessary to receive the greatest torque and its distribution. Among that, the PT1 will feature improvements to the breaking system, the adoption of a new track known as the DST 570 P0 (the current Arietes use the DST 840 E0). The DST 570 P0 is 20% wider than the previous tracks, it allows the tank to have a smaller footprint and makes it much easier to overcome soft terrain. Suspensions and shock absorbers have not been replaced, but only overhauled. Tests of the PT1 have been done at the "Centro Polifunzionale di Sperimentazione Mobile" (CEPOLISPE). The PT1 was also given the production WAR+PSO add-on armour kit, which all AMV prototypes have also received. In the future, once testing of all AMV prototypes has been concluded, they will all be brought to C2 Ariete standard.
The C1 Ariete was developed by OTO Melara during the late Cold War to allow the Italian army to equip itself with a modern tank which could easily deal with Yugoslav and Warsaw pact tanks.

Introduced in Update 1.89 "Imperial Navy", this Italian MBT is one of the staple tanks that you can add to your lineup. The key differences when compared to the C1 Ariete Preserie include better armour in the form of the unlockable WAR kit, better optics which include gen 2 commander and gunner thermals and lastly better firepower which includes the DM53 APFSDS round. It's a great MBT when used by players who can work around its weaknesses, mobility is also not bad which means you will easily be able to keep up with the majority of your teammates in battle.

General info
Survivability and armour
Specs-Tank-Armour
<!-- Describe armour protection. Note the most well protected and key weak areas. Appreciate the layout of modules as well as the number and location of crew members. Is the level of armour protection sufficient, is the placement of modules helpful for survival in combat? If necessary use a visual template to indicate the most secure and weak zones of the armour. -->

The C1 Ariete is the least armoured top tier MBT currently in the game but that does not mean it has no armour to speak of. The turret front is decently protected especially with the WAR kit modification allowing it to stop all APFSDS rounds fired from guns smaller than 120 mm as well as most of the weaker 120 mm APFSDS rounds such as the 3BM22, L23A1 and DM13. The WAR kit also makes the turret invulnerable to all HEAT threats except for tandem ATGMs. The mantlet on the Ariete is not too large but it will be your weak spot from the front but that is also true for all other MBTs. The gunner and commander sit on the left side of the turret while the loader sits on the right, and the large optics block on the left side of the turret can occasionally save your gunner and commander by soaking up the post-penetration damage.

Unfortunately that's where the armour ends, the hull is one large weak spot with a huge LFP consisting of just one angled 50 mm plate that won't stop anything fired at you even from vehicles in a downtier; while the UFP is made out of spaced armour that can only stop autocannon rounds or 105 mm APDS shells. Shots through the hull will most likely take out the tank immediately, a shot on the left side of the hull front would take out the driver, gunner and commander, while a shot to the right side would hit the first stage ammo rack. Like most top tier vehicles, the tank sides offer little protection, though the fuel tanks in the side of the hull might soak up the occasional HEAT round but it isn't something you can rely on. Ultimately, it is advised to play this tank away from the front lines sniping whenever possible peaking from behind cover to maximize the use of your turret armour.

The C1 Ariete has access to a decent APFSDS round known the DM53 which can easily take care of the majority of MBT's you'll face at your battle rating. What makes this C1 Ariete unique is that it has access to a special modification known as the WAR add-on armour kit. This is one of the later modifications you can install unto the C1 Ariete which greatly improves survivability against APFSDS rounds such as some 125 mm APFSDS munitions found primarily on Russian MBT'S. The WAR kit is not as good as soaking up damage as the PSO kit when it comes to HEAT and the majority of low level IFV autocannon fire, however it still is useful and will surprisingly come in useful when you least expect it. The best playstyle for the C1 Ariete especially when you are just starting out with it, would be more a supportive one, such as flanking manoeuvres or to stick with your better armoured teammates who can withstand hits such as Leopards 2A6. The Ariete being one of the weakest top tier MBTs for its battle rating, it is advised to keep your distance and try pick enemies from far away. With the DM53 APFSDS round, you can easily take out the majority of enemies with one hit if you aim right. Most top tier MBT weak spots at the front are the lower front of the vehicle. If you manage to flank the enemy team, go for the sides or where the ammunition is stored as that also will usually get rid of an enemy quickly. When you have unlocked the WAR add-on armour kit, you have more chances to play hull down which will greatly increase your overall effectiveness on the battlefield, as you'll be able to withstand some shots coming your way. Mobility wise this is much better than the PSO, you will be able to keep up with your team and at times be even faster than some tanks such as the Challenger 2. Remember that in Arcade Battles, enemies can easily find out where you are with your name tag and where your weak spots are so try not to be out in the open when possible. The C1 Ariete also has access to commanders thermals, this will be one of the most useful items in your arsenal and will allow you to better spot enemies from behind cover, as well as quickly engage and disengage without exposing yourself long enough for the enemy to see you coming. If you can master this technique, you'll be able to still be useful despite being at a disadvantage.

Pros and cons
<!-- Summarise and briefly evaluate the vehicle in terms of its characteristics and combat effectiveness. Mark its pros and cons in a bulleted list. Try not to use more than 6 points for each of the characteristics. Avoid using categorical definitions such as "bad", "good" and the like - use substitutions with softer forms such as "inadequate" and "effective". -->

Pros:

* The DM33 APFSDS round is a tier 1 modification
* The turret cheeks are reasonably armoured against HEATFS below 125 mm, especially with the War kit modification equipped
* Decent mobility forwards
* The commander has access to thermal sights, and both gunner and commander thermals are Gen 2 (higher resolution)
* Outstanding gun handling characteristics
* Quick and responsive reverse
* Fairly decent and reactive mobility at medium to high speeds
* Quick neutral steering
* DM53, combined with great thermals and a laser rangefinder make for an exceptionally deadly sniper
* Unlike other NATO MBTs, there is no ammo rack in the turret bustle: a penetration in the turret rarely destroys the tank in one shot

Cons:

* Hull armour almost non-existent
* Placement of crew members and first stage ammo rack make hits to the hull fatal
* The lack of armour is not counteracted by improved mobility, the mobility is average for a rank VII ground vehicle
* The stock ammunition is HEATFS, the DM53 APFSDS round is a tier 4 modification
* The War kit armour package is a tier 4 modification
* The War kit armour package only increases chemical protection, with missiles and 125 mm HEATFS still able to penetrate
* Transmission makes low speed manoeuvring sluggish
* Russian tanks, protected by explosive reactive armour, can at times directly withstand DM53.

Iveco dealt with the hull, transmission, and engine, while OTO Melara took care of the turret, cannon, and the installation of sights.

The C1 Ariete had many new advancements that the previous tanks that Italy used could only dream of having. The first C1 Ariete production models had access to the TURMS 3rd generation LTFCS made by Officine Galileo, which gave the capability to the Ariete to fire on the move, both during the day and at night. However later down the line, the last 50 Arietes would receive an upgrade of their sights, which resulted in many improvements, such as giving the C1 Ariete commanders thermal imaging. In terms of armaments, the C1 Ariete (P) and C1 Ariete Production have access to a 120 mm smoothbore gun, made by OTO Melara, with similarities to the German made L44. The Ariete can fire all NATO standard munitions, however as of now the best round that is known the vehicle has in service, would be the CL3143 APFSDS, which is a license-produced version of the M332 Israeli-made round. In 2010 there were plans to buy M338 APFSDS for the C1 Ariete, which was basically DM43 with an improved cap, but nothing came out of it, however as previously mentioned before, if need be the C1 Ariete can fire the majority of NATO standard munitions. The C1 Ariete's armour is currently classified, as it is currently still in service, however CIO (Consorzio Iveco-Oto Melara) claim that it is a mix of steel and composite on both the hull and turret. Most experts claim that the C1 Ariete, at least the first production models, had similar if not better protection than a Leopard 2A4, this does hold some truth as both tanks were designed around the same time.

Currently there are 3 known upgrades to the C1 Ariete armour, one of which was first shown in 2002 in the form of a mock-up of the "C2 Ariete", though the planned upgrades never came into fruition. However a couple of C1 production Arietes would later be equipped and tested with the add-on armour package known as "WAR". As the name implies, the new pack was made for war scenarios, and is said to stop a lot of APFSDS rounds from actually entering the tank, giving a new elevated protection to both the tank and the crew. The second armour upgrade would come in the form of the "PSO" kit (Peace Support Operation), which would add new composite add-on armour to the sides of the C1 Ariete. The Ariete PSO was deployed during Operation Ancient Babylon in Iraq. And last but not least, recently it was discovered that a mix of WAR+PSO was tested on the C1 Ariete, although little to no information is available on this upgrade. There is one upgrade that is in the works, known as the C1 Ariete AMV, standing for "Ammodernamento di Mezza Vita" (English: "mid life update"). This new update is said to bring the C1 Ariete up to standard; planned upgrades include a new modern sight and thermal system made by Leonardo, active protection systems, better armour, new engine, and much more. The first 3 AMV prototypes are said to be complete by the end of 2021. In terms of service, the C1 Ariete has partaken in many peace-keeping operations around the globe, such as in Yugoslavia, Iraq, and now currently being used in Latvia for NATO's Enhanced Forward Presence mission.
In the second part, tell the reader about the ground vehicle in the game. The C1 Ariete was developed by OTO Melara during the late Cold War to allow the Italian army to equip itself with a modern tank which could easily deal with Yugoslav and Warsaw pact tanks. The PSO (Peace Support Operation) modification entailed additional composite armour blocks on the sides of the tank, mainly to increase crew protection against RPG fire, though they were also found to work well against low level APFSDS and standard HEAT munitions.

Introduced in Update 1.91 "Night Vision", the C1 Ariete PSO is one of the slowest variants in the C1 Ariete family of vehicles, due to addition of the add-on armour kit surrounding the sides of the hull and turret. However, this add-on armour package is able to handle most low level autocannon fire from enemies from the BMP family and at times even some APFSDS rounds. The tank can be effective when in use by a player who can work around its lacklustre mobility and relatively weak frontal protection. It can also be a great back up for your top tier lineup if you choose to bring more than 1 variant of the C1 Ariete.

The PAGENAME's armour can withstand some 105 mm APFSDS shells, though the turret can resist some high ranking HEAT-FS shells as well. Though the composite side skirts does not provide much protection against kinetic shells, it does affect HEAT-FS shells in that even if one penetrates, the penetrating projectile does not travel as far into the tank and so reduces the overall damage to the tank (outside of direct hits to the ammunition racks).

A common weak point on the PAGENAME from the front is the gun mantlet, as some shots may go through the armour and damage the gun breech and/or the crew. When dealing with a shell that can penetrate, the PAGENAME's left side (right when facing directly at the Ariete) has three ammo racks lined up with each other, and so a frontal penetration at that side of the Ariete has a high chance of detonating these rack, or a shot at the Ariete's left side.

Under normal circumstance however, the PAGENAME's four crew members make it a relatively survivable tank to drive, as the common knock-out of the gunner and commander with a penetration through the turret will leave just two (loader and driver), allowing the PAGENAME to withdraw and continue fighting at the expense of a longer reload time.
The armament of the PAGENAME is one of the greatest in the game, with a large amount of penetration in every armour-piercing shell. Their performance lines up with other 120 mm guns in other tanks like the Leopard, and so it should be able to deal with the majority of the top-ranking vehicles with consideration of armour weak points and vulnerabilities.

While the Ariete starts off like most other high BR vehicles with HEATFS, that challenge is easily overcome once you get the 1st round which is DM33, a tier 1 modification which brings its firepower equivalent to the Leopard 2A5 and Type 90. As for a tier 4 modification you get access to the CL3143 APFSDS, which is a powerful round in the game that will be able to dispatch your enemies with some ease.
The C1 Ariete PSO has access to a decent round, the DM53 which is able to take care of most top tier MBT's it will face. This specific Ariete has the PSO armour installed, which depending on the angle of the shot, can also protect itself against some 125 mm APFSDS and the majority of low level IFV autocannon fire. Due to the kit which you cannot remove, the Ariete PSO won't win any races with its mobility especially when compared to other NATO MBT's. The best playstyle for the Ariete PSO especially when you are just starting out with it, would be more a supportive one which involves flanking manoeuvres or to stick with your better armoured teammates who can withstand hits from enemy tanks such as Leopard 2A6's. Since the Ariete PSO is one of the weakest top tier MBTs for its battle rating, it is advised to keep your distance and try pick enemies from far away, the PSO can easily sit back and use its powerful DM53 APFSDS round to take care of enemies at range with one hit if you aim right. One great plus about the PSO is that if you are deciding to snipe and an enemy vehicle takes you by suprise, the PSO armour can actually be very useful, it can protect you against a multitude of ATGM's and can negate most autocanon fire. If you are lucky you will have enough time to react and take care of the enemy, most top tier MBT weak spots are present at the lower front of the vehicle. If you manage to flank the enemy team, go for the sides or where the ammunition is stored as that also will usually get rid of an enemy quickly. When playing aggressive you need to rely on fast reflexes otherwise there is a good chance that the 1st hit from a enemy will cripple you or knock you out of battle. The Ariete PSO also has an additional PSO modification but it really doesn't change much so it is not needed. The Ariete PSO also has access to commanders thermals, something the previous vehicle (Ariete (P)) does not have. This will be one of the most useful items in your arsenal and will allow you to better spot enemies from behind cover, as well as quickly engage and disengage without exposing yourself long enough for the enemy to see you coming. If you can master this technique, you'll be able to still be useful despite technically being at a disadvantage when compared to other MBT's. Remember that in Arcade Battles, enemies can easily find out where you are with your name tag and where your weak spots are.
* Unlike other NATO MBTs, there is no ammo rack in the turret, reducing the chances of an instant knockout if the turret is penetrated
* Fast turret traverse
* Second generation CITV and gunner's sights
* High reverse speed
* Another additional roof-mounted Beretta MG42 to ward off enemy helicopters
* Decent FOV and zoom levels
* Access to DM53

Cons:

* Mobility is subpar, only the Challenger 2 and ZTZ99 are less mobile
* Large lower glacis
* Least armoured MBT in the game
* PSO Tipo 2 doesn't really offer any substantial differences or advantages over the regular PSO armour pack
* Russian tanks with Explosive Reactive Armour are capable of stopping DM53 in certain places and will need careful aiming
* Huge ammo rack next to the driver
The history of the C1 Ariete begins during the late stages of the Cold War, with a program born out of the need of the Italian army to modernize the fleet of tanks they had during the Cold War, which were the Leopards and M60s. Those tanks would be considered obsolete, considering the fact that many countries around the world who adopted such designs had either put them out of service or replaced them for something more modern. To make the new Italian MBT, Italy put Iveco and OTO Melara in charge. Iveco dealt with the hull, transmission, and engine, while OTO Melara took care of the turret, cannon, and the installation of sights.

The Ariete can fire all NATO standard munitions, however as of now the best round that is known the vehicle has in service, would be the CL3143 APFSDS, which is a license-produced version of the M322 Israeli-made round.

In terms of the PSO (Peace Support Operation) upgrade, its history would start on 21st December 2000, when between the General Directorate of Land Armaments (now Directorate of Ground Armaments) and the Iveco-OTO Melara Consortium, a contract of sorts was signed, which allowed the C1 Ariete to receive a new armour upgrade, in which 30 sets would be ordered and later on to be installed unto the C1 Ariete. Although it is unknown if all if all the orders would actually end up being complete. The Ariete with PSO would first be seen deployed in Iraq, for Operation Ancient Babylon in 2003. The PSO was made up of additional composite blocks on the side of the tank, these blocks would mainly be installed to increase crew protection against RPG fire, however it also worked well against low level APFSDS and standard HEAT munitions. This would be a great upgrade for the tank, however, the tank would suffer mobility wise, and be, rightfully slower than the regular version of the vehicle. After the C1 Arietes got sent back, the armour package would be removed and later on regular C1 Arietes would be spotted back to their original variant. Recently there has been a breakthrough and it was found that there was a variant of the C1 Ariete that mounted the PSO and WAR package at the same time, there is not too much information regarding this variant but it is possible it was done to answer the problems of the Ariete PSO, in which the sides would be covered but the front of the vehicle remained the same, with the addition of the WAR kit the front side of the Ariete would be a little more protected.

In terms of future upgrades, one is in the works, known as the C1 Ariete AMV, standing for "Ammodernamento di Mezza Vita" (English: "mid life update").

Avoid using categorical definitions such as "bad", "good" and the like - use substitutions with softer forms such as "inadequate" and "effective". -->

Pros:

* The CL3143 APFSDS round is a tier 1 modification
* Decent forward mobility, even better than previous Ariete due to mobility upgrade
* The commander has access to thermal sights, and both gunner and commander thermals are Gen 2 (higher resolution)
* Outstanding gun handling characteristics
* Quick and responsive reverse
* Fairly decent and reactive mobility at medium to high speeds
* Quick neutral steering

* Unprotected ammo stowage

History
<!-- Describe the history of the creation and combat usage of the vehicle in more detail than in the introduction.
