== Description ==
The ML-20S is a modification of the Soviet 152 mm artillery piece, specially designed for installation in tank destroyers such as the ISU-152 and SU-152. The ML-20 was developed in 1937, and its modification ML-20S in 1943.

The ML-20S is distinguished by its range and ability to fire high-explosive and armor-piercing projectiles, which made it suitable for hitting both fortified positions and armored vehicles. This made a significant contribution to the combat capabilities of the ISU-152, which was known for its role as a tank destroyer and assault weapon during various conflicts, including World War II.
== History ==
After several failures with the modernization of the 152 mm siege cannon of 1910, two howitzers, ML-15 and ML—20, were developed in the Design Bureau of plant No. 172. The ML-20 project was led by the famous designer F. F. Petrov, the initiative began work on it, while the ML-15 was created on the instructions of the GAU. Both guns borrowed elements from the 152 mm cannon of 1910/34, such as the barrel, bolt and recoil devices. The ML-20 had a similar wheel arrangement, while the structural elements of the ML-15 were redesigned.

The first ML-20 was tested on December 25, 1936, and the following year on military ones. After eliminating the shortcomings, the gun was adopted on September 22, 1937 as a "152-mm howitzer cannon mod. 1937". ML-20 was used to fire at trenches, fortifications and important enemy targets. With the OF-540 high-explosive grenade weighing 43.56 kg, it hit targets with fragments to a depth of 8 m, and although there were fewer fragments, their mass allowed them to penetrate armor up to 30 mm. This made the ML-20 a threat not only to manpower, but also to enemy armored vehicles.
