U109642649: added 13.0 to ec brackets

'''Enduring Confrontation''' (also known as "EC") is a separate game mode for aircraft in War Thunder. Unlike in traditional random battles, this mode allows you to join a battle at any time. You also have unlimited respawns, subject to certain rules. In EC, the emphasis is on the players’ ability to influence the situation on the battlefield.

Battles in EC occur as Events, so you can find this mode in the "Events and Tournaments" section underneath the "To Battle" button. EC is the primary game mode for aircraft in Simulator Battles, and a simplified version of it in Arcade Battles is the only separate game mode for helicopters. To join a battle in Enduring Confrontation, you can either wait in the general queue as you would in random battles, or call up a list of active rooms (ongoing battles) sorted by country and rank and, if there are available spots on a team, join your preferred side in that room. You can call up a list of rooms by pressing the button of the same name.

==Main differences between Enduring Confrontation and random battles:==

*Battles are longer. Every battle lasts up to 3 hours, ending earlier if one of the teams meets the conditions for winning. You don’t have to participate in the entire battle from beginning to end. Players can leave the battle and come back to it whenever they want (as long as there are free spots on their team), but you can’t change teams nor vehicle sets during a battle.
<!--
*You have an unlimited number of respawns in EC, but the number of different aircraft you can use over the course of a battle is limited by your Spawn Points (SP) and the fact that aircraft are temporarily blocked when lost. At the beginning of a battle, you only have access to aircraft with a small BR value. To unlock other aircraft, you need to earn SP.
-->
*In EC, players have more opportunities to alter the situation on the battlefield both directly and indirectly, and the distribution of power across both teams can change several times depending on the success of the players on one side or the other.

*There are various mechanics that are unique to EC, such as the front line and modular airfields.

==Ranks in Enduring Confrontation==
Every two days, a BR range set of 10 new ranges will be cyclically changed both for random battles and the room list in the lobby. The switching will be sequential between four sets of Battle Ratings:
|}
</small>

The current BR range is displayed in the events tab in game.

<!-- ==Spawn Points==
Taking off in an aircraft in Enduring Confrontation costs Spawn Points (SP). The number of SP you need to take off in a specific aircraft depends on how much its BR exceeds the starting BR of the particular EC rank. You don’t need any SP to take off in aircraft with a starting BR (for example, 1.0 for rank 1 or 3.7 for rank 3). The more an aircraft’s BR exceeds the starting BR, the more SP you need to take off. To take off in an aircraft with the maximum BR for a given rank (for example, 2.0 for rank 1 or 4.7 for rank 3), you need 450 SP. The number of SP you need to take off in each specific aircraft from the current set is displayed on the bottom part of the aircraft’s card in the set, to the left of its BR.

[[File:Enduring_Confrontation_1.png|class=dynamic_image]]

Every player has their own SP balance that is maintained throughout the course of a given battle. Points can be earned by achieving mission objectives, destroying enemy vehicles, and bombing targets such as enemy bases and airfields.
SP spent to take off in an aircraft are deducted from your balance the moment you press the "To Battle" button. If your aircraft is lost, the SP you spent are lost as well. If you get your aircraft back to an airfield in working condition after repairing and refueling, the SP you spend are refunded to you as soon as you get out of the aircraft.

[[File:Enduring_Confrontation_2.png|class=dynamic_image]]-->

==New Aircraft Security Deposit==
In Enduring Confrontation you are not charged any funds to repair lost vehicles, but you do pay a security deposit in Silver Lions (SL) for each new aircraft you use in battle. <!--The amount of the security deposit is half of the repair cost of the vehicle, and is shown at the bottom of the aircraft’s card in the set, to the left of the number of SP required to take off in it. -->The security deposit is charged the moment you press the "To Battle" button. If you keep your aircraft in one piece, perform a decent landing on an airfield, and get out of the aircraft, you won’t have to pay a security deposit next time you take off in that aircraft – you’ve already paid it. However, if you lose an aircraft, you’ll have to make another security deposit next time you take off in it. Security deposits are not refunded at the end of the match.

<!-- ==Vehicle BR and Time Limits when Losing an Aircraft==
If you a lose an aircraft with a BR above the starting level, all aircraft of the same type (fighters, attack aircraft or bombers, depending on which one is being used, for example after dying in the F11F-1 which is at 9.0, the A-4B that is on the same BR will not be locked) with this BR are temporarily blocked. The duration of the block depends on how far the aircraft’s BR is from the starting level. The minimum block duration is 5 minutes, and the maximum (for aircraft with the maximum BR for a given rank) is 30 minutes. There is no block for vehicles with a BR that is equal to or below the starting level. -->

==Requirements and Recommendations for Building Vehicle Sets==
We recommend including aircraft of various types in a set (fighters, strike aircraft, bombers) in order to increase your tactical flexibility and allow you to withstand enemy aircraft and ground vehicles on the front line over the course of the battle, as well as for performing bombing runs against enemy bases and airfields. The mission will spawn ground units like pillboxes against which it is the best rockets, there are also carriers and ground bases which require bombs in order to cause any damage. A plane with good climb rate and armament like cannons should also be included to be able to intercept AI planes like attackers or bombers.

==Conditions for Winning and Losing==
To win a battle, a team must fulfill one of the following conditions:

# Earn 150,000 victory points. The victory points for both teams are always displayed in the lower left corner of the screen when you are in the cockpit. Teams are awarded victory points for completing mission objectives and, to a lesser extent, for destroying enemy vehicles.

[[File:Enduring_Confrontation_3.png|class=dynamic_image]]

#Destroy the airstrips, hangars, of all the enemy’s airfields. You can read more about airfield zones in the "Modular Airfields" section.
#Victory is automatically awarded to the team that has earned the most victory points when the time limit for the battle ends (the limit for all battles in 3 hours).

==Mission Objectives, Explicit and Hidden==
As in other game modes, there are special mission objectives in EC for which a team can earn victory points. They can be divided into "explicit" and "hidden" objectives. The difference is that explicit objectives are displayed in the list of current objectives on the map during battle, and hidden objectives are not (this is done in order to save space on the list and not fill it up with obvious objectives). In other words, hidden objectives are always in effect, so they aren’t listed on the objectives list, although they are still assumed to be there. Victory points are awarded for completing both explicit and hidden objectives.

Hidden objectives:

*Earn 150,000 points to win the battle.
*Find an enemy airfield – at the beginning of the battle, when the location of the enemy’s airfields is still unknown.
*Destroy the enemy airfield in a certain sector.
*Help win a skirmish in a certain sector – you can participate in destroying enemy ground vehicles in an active ground skirmish where one side is attacking, and the other is defending. There can be multiple active skirmishes at the same time in various sectors of the map (or even in the same sector, but in different directions). The attacking side in a skirmish is shown as an arrow on the map. The blue arrow is the allies’ attack, and the red arrow is the enemies’. The direction of the attack determines the kind of ground vehicles that will be used: the attacking side’s ground forces are represented by tanks and Howitzers, and the defending side is represented by light pillboxes and Howitzers.

Explicit objectives:

*Cover/destroy the allied/enemy spotter in a certain sector – this is a single AI aircraft that comes in from the allied team’s rear and flies around for a while above the enemy team’s territory at a certain altitude depending on battle rank. Its presence in the air makes it possible to discover objectives at greater distances.
*Cover/destroy the allied/enemy bombers/attack aircraft in a certain sector – this is a group of AI aircraft made up of 6 bombers or 9 attack aircraft covered by 2 AI fighters. The group comes in at a certain altitude from the allied team’s rear in order to complete a certain objective. The bombers’ target is always the enemy team’s base, and the attack aircraft’s target is the last active ground skirmish.
*Cover/destroy the allied/enemy vehicle column in a certain sector – this is a column of AI ground vehicles made up of tanks, trucks, and mobile AA guns. It advances from the allied team’s rear toward the front line. When it reaches its target sector, it increases the military presence of the allied team to the maximum in that sector. This leads to the generation of a land skirmish in which the attacking side is the team to which the column belongs. There can be up to 3 active convoys per team.
*Achieve air supremacy in a certain sector – capture [[wt:en/news/5415-development-enduring-confrontation-mode-update-en|an air sector]] that is adjacent to the front line. It is marked with a little circle with the letter A in the middle of one of the sectors on the map. The sector’s area fully corresponds to the sector on the map, and the air sector’s altitude is 6,000 metres. Only player-controlled aircraft count toward capture – AI vehicles don’t count. A limited amount of time is allotted to capture the sector. If one of the teams captures the sector, a land skirmish will be generated either in this sector or in one adjacent to it. The attacking side will be the team that achieved air supremacy.
*Destroy the enemy base in a certain sector – bomb the enemy base in the indicated sector. The base’s durability depends on the battle rank.
*Locate the enemy carrier - at the beginning of the battle, when the location of the enemy’s carrier is still unknown, available only on a few maps like Sicily or Tunisia.
*Destroy the enemy carrier - one carrier unit escorted by a few destroyers, all of them are moving, to be completed only the carrier unit needs to be destroyed, damaging or sinking destroyers does not do anything.

==Discovering Objectives==
In addition to the fact that mission objectives are conditionally divided into explicit and hidden, certain objectives need to be discovered in order to appear and become completable. Objectives will be discovered if an allied vehicle (either AI or player-controlled) finds itself next to them within a certain range, although players have a larger detection range than AI units do. The presence in the air of an allied spotter increases the detection range for both players and AI vehicles. Once an explicit objective has been discovered, all players on the team receive an on-screen notification, and the corresponding objective is added to the list of active objectives in the map window.

If a mission objective is discovered by players, the team is rewarded with a certain number of victory points (usually about 20% of the reward for completing the objective in question).

==Map Window and Map==
The map window is an essential helper to all players in Enduring Confrontation and provides a lot of useful information. The following information is displayed in the map window at all times:

<!--*The number of available Spawn Points (in the upper right corner).-->
*The current mission and location, as well as the time remaining until the end of the battle (in the upper left corner).
*Information on the vehicle set being used in the battle, including the status of aircraft, the cost to take off in each aircraft, and your current SP and SL.
*Current aircraft settings (these can be changed at an airfield prior to takeoff), including weapon loadout, equipped ammo belts, camouflage, frontal armament convergence, explosive delay, and remaining fuel.
*A list of active mission objectives.
*The chat window/battle log.
*The mission map.

The map of every EC location is divided into grid sectors of a fixed size:

*In EC missions with a map size of 64 x 64 km, the size of a map grid sector is 8,192 x 8,192 metres.
*In EC missions on location "Dover", the size of a map grid sector is 12,288 x 12,288 metres.
*In EC missions on location "Denmark", "Sinai", "Afghanistan", "Spain" and "Vietnam", the size of a map grid sector is 16,384 x 16,384 metres.

[[File:Enduring_Confrontation_4.png|class=dynamic_image]]

The map itself displays the following information in real time:

*Your current location and flight direction.
*The state of the front line.
*The location and status of discovered airfields. Your team’s airfields are always displayed, but you have to discover the other team’s airfields first.
*The location and integrity of bases that are currently active (if there are any).
*Air supremacy sector and status (if such an objective is active).
*The location of ground convoys that are currently active (if there are any).
*The location of ground skirmishes that are currently active (if there are any). The directions of attacks are shown as arrows, and allied and enemy ground vehicles are shown as markers.

==Front Line==
The front line is one of the unique game mechanics found in Enduring Confrontation missions. The front line extends along the borders of adjacent sectors of the map and unambiguously defines the side to which they belong. At the beginning of every battle the front line extends along the borders of the middle sectors of the map, but as the battle progresses, it shifts to one side or the other. Changes to the front line occur as a result of ground skirmishes fought by AI vehicles – a successful attack gives control over the current sector to the attacking side and moves the front line accordingly. Players can affect the outcome of ground skirmishes (and thus change the front line) by destroying the AI ground vehicles that are participating in them. If neither team interferes in a ground skirmish, it depends on the AI units who wins it, they can damage each other, also the ground battle can be attacked by the formation of AI attacker planes.

Influencing the front line during a battle: if, as the result of a shift in the front line, an airfield ends up within territory controlled by the enemy team, this airfield will cease to function. If, due to another shift in the front line, this airfield ends up back within allied territory, it will start working again.

You can read more about the front line in this [[wt:en/news/5415-development-enduring-confrontation-mode-update-en|Devblog]].

[[File:Enduring_confrontation_map_01.png|class=dynamic_image]]

==Airfields and their Modules==
All aircraft in EC spawn on airfields and return to them to reload and repair. Since battles in EC last a significant amount of time, airfields are a crucial strategic target – they directly affect the course of the battle.

In EC missions, airfields are distributed randomly on the map – when every new battle is generated, the server chooses depending on the map up to five potential airfield locations for each side. At the beginning of the battle, each team knows the location of their own airfields (they are displayed on the map), but they do not know the location of the enemy’s airfields. Enemy airfields can be discovered visually by being in the air at a sufficient altitude, but in order to get an airfield detected in this manner to appear on the map, you need to fly close enough to it (within a range of a few kilometres – altitude doesn’t matter). Just like other targets, airfields can be discovered by AI vehicles.

You can always see the status of allied and enemy airfields on the map. Additionally, the detection status and overall integrity of airfields are displayed in the top middle part of the screen, above the bar with the double victory point indicator – look for the circles above the inner edge of the corresponding indicator. Blue circles represent the status of allied airfields, and red ones represent the status of enemy airfields. The number of circles shows how many of a given team’s airfields have been discovered by the enemy. The degree to which they are colored in represents their integrity. By the same token, the number of blue circles shows how many allied airfields have been discovered by the enemy, and the number of red ones shows how many enemy airfields your allies have found. If there are no circles on one side or the other, this means that none of that team’s airfields have been discovered by the enemy yet.

Every airfield is defended by ten anti-aircraft ground units, they spawn around the airfield and consist of three different types, short, medium, long range AAA units and units equipped with the ground-to-air missiles in high tier battles (EC6+). All those mentioned unit types respawn after certain amount of time when they are destroyed. The other type of units that defends them are two fighter planes circling above them, they attack every unit that gets close to the airfield and disengage when that attacking plane gets too far away from it. Those planes are being respawned after being destroyed and sometimes land on the airfield to refuel and rearm itself.

The airfields themselves have a modular structure in EC, i.e. they are heterogeneous. This is yet another unique feature of this mode. Every airfield represents a set of four modules, or damageable functional zones of varying size, configuration, and appearance. They include the airstrip, fuel warehouses, parking area (also the aircraft repair area), and the living quarters (this is where the crew is located). Each of these zones performs its own unique function, has its own level of durability, and does not intersect with the areas of the other zones. The durability of all modules depends on the rank of the EC mission, increasing from lower ranks to higher ones. A zone can only be damaged or destroyed if it is hit by a bomb within its own area. Bombs that miss zones or hit destroyed zones do not count. Damaged zones are repaired over time. The speed at which they are repaired depends on the condition of the living quarters.

Thanks to this mechanic, airfields cannot be completely destroyed during EC missions. It is only possible to temporarily disable their functionality – unlike in other aircraft game modes. However, destroying the airstrip and living quarters of all of a team’s airfields prevents the players on that team from bringing new aircraft into the battle and thus automatically leads to defeat.
==Helicopter Enduring Confrontation in Arcade Battles==

As mentioned above, a simplified version of EC mode in Arcade battles is the only separate game mode for helicopters in War Thunder. It differs from EC in Simulator battles in the following ways:

*Instead of airfields, helicopter pads are placed around the map. They have no module-based mechanics, and there are 12 per team rather than 3.
__TOC__

==General Information==

'''Battle rating''' (BR) is a value used to determine matchmaking in War Thunder. Battle rating is a number assigned to every aircraft, ground unit, and naval vessel in the game that correlates with their effectiveness in combat. Roughly speaking, as a vehicle's capabilities and performance increase, so does its battle rating. Battle rating can also differ depending on the game mode. For example, if a vehicle may perform considerably better compared to its opponents in Arcade Battles than in Realistic Battles, it may have a higher battle rating in the former.

'''Battle rating does not correspond with real-life introduction dates, but rather, the vehicle's in-game performance.''' Even if major technological imbalances existed among the vehicles in real life, the battle rating system allows War Thunder to remain balanced at all ranks by only matching vehicles with similar in-game performance against each other.

Battle ratings exists in steps of 0.3 or 0.4 starting from 1.0 and ending at 12.3 (i.e. 1.0, 1.3, 1.7, 2.0, 2.3, 2.7,etc.).

{{Notice|Matchmaking is based solely on battle rating; the rank of a vehicle is irrelevant.}}

The battle rating of every vehicle can be found at the top of its stat card or in the lower-right corner of its icon in the Research screen. To check the vehicle's BR in different game modes, select the appropriate mode in the drop-down menu lower-right corner of the Research screen. Note that the BR of "Reserve" vehicles is 1.0.

The battle rating that the [[Matchmaker]] will use will always be displayed at the top of the screen, underneath "To Battle!".

==Aviation==

===Air Arcade Battles===

In Air Arcade Battles, matchmaking is determined by the '''total battle rating''' of a lineup, which is calculated based on the three highest BR aircraft of that lineup. Ground units and naval vessels in the lineup cannot be taken into battle and will have no effect on the calculation of total battle rating. Damaged aircraft, or aircraft that are on [[Crew lock]], will not be factored into calculation either.

In general:

* Total BR will only be lowered if there is only one aircraft with the highest BR in the lineup (e.g. one 5.0, with all else 4.7 or lower).

* Total BR can be lowered by a maximum of one BR step below the highest BR aircraft (e.g. 5.0 to 4.7, 3.7 to 3.3).

* Only BR differences of up to 2.0 are taken into consideration; otherwise, total BR is taken from the highest BR.

Players will only be matched against other players based on their total battle rating. They may be able to see players with a total BR as low or as high as their own total BR ±1.0. For example, if a player's total BR is 3.0, they can be matched with players with total BR between 2.0 and 4.0.

=====Calculation=====

If '''A''' is the highest BR in a lineup, '''B''' is the second highest BR, and '''C''' is the third highest BR, then the formula for '''Total BR''' is as follows:

:'''Total BR''' = ('''A''' ÷ 2) + ('''X''' ÷ 4) + ('''Y''' ÷ 4)

where:

* If '''A''' - '''B''' < 0.6, then:

:: '''X''' = '''B'''

* If 0.6 ≤ '''A''' - '''B''' ≤ 2.0, then:

:: '''X''' = '''A''' - 0.6

* If '''A''' - '''B''' > 2.0, then:

:: '''X''' = '''A'''

* If '''A''' - '''C''' < 0.6, then:

:: '''Y''' = '''C'''

* If 0.6 ≤ '''A''' - '''C''' ≤ 2.0, then:

:: '''Y''' = '''A''' - 0.6

* If '''A''' - '''C''' > 2.0, then:

:: '''Y''' = '''A'''

In other words, if the difference between '''A''' and '''B''' is less than 0.6, then '''B''' is substituted for '''X''' in the equation. If the difference is between 0.6 and 2.0, inclusive, then ('''A''' - 0.6) is substituted for '''X'''. If the difference is greater than 2.0, then '''A''' is substituted for '''X'''.

The value of Y is calculated the same way, except the difference between '''A''' and '''C''' is compared instead.

Once evaluated, the resulting value '''Total BR''' is rounded to the nearest battle rating step. For example, 3.1 (which is closer to 3.0 than 3.3) will be rounded down to 3.0, and 3.2 (which is closer to 3.3 than 3.0) will be rounded up to 3.3.

Values exactly between two steps are rounded up. For example, 3.15 (which is exactly between 3.0 and 3.3) will be rounded to 3.3, and 3.5 (which is exactly between 3.4 and 3.7) will be rounded to 3.7.

====Example Calculation====

Here is an example calculation of total battle rating, where:

: '''A''' = 6.0
: '''B''' = 5.7
: '''C''' = 5.0

First, the difference between '''A''' and '''B''' is checked. The difference is 0.3, so:

: '''X''' = '''B''' = 5.7

Now, the difference between '''A''' and '''C''' is checked. The difference is 1.0, so:

: '''Y''' = '''A''' - 0.6 = 5.4

Substituting these values into the equation:

:'''Total BR''' = ('''6.0''' ÷ 2) + ('''5.7''' ÷ 4) + ('''5.4''' ÷ 4) = '''5.775'''

The resulting value, '''5.775''', is closer to 5.7 than 6.0, so the value is rounded down to '''5.7'''.

Thus, for a lineup whose highest BRs are 6.0, 5.7, and 5.0, the '''Total BR''' of the lineup is '''5.7'''.

</div>

===Air Realistic Battles===

In Air Realistic Battles, only the aircraft currently selected will be taken into battle, and its battle rating will be used to determine matchmaking. Players will only see aircraft with battle rating ±1.0 compared to their own.

===Air Simulator Battles===

In Air Simulator Battles, there are two battle rating ranges for each team, '''Allowed vehicles''' and '''Required vehicles'''. Any aircraft with battle rating in the '''Allowed vehicles''' range can be taken into battle. However, to enter an Air Simulator game, at least one aircraft in the lineup must be in the '''Required vehicles''' range. Players are matched with other players whose lineups consist of vehicles in the '''Allowed vehicles''' range.

Typically, in an Air Simulator game, lower battle rating vehicles can spawn immediately, while higher battle rating vehicles may require Spawn Points (SP) and may have a cooldown timer until they can be spawned again.

Ground units and naval vessels in the lineup are not taken into account and cannot be taken into battle. Neither can damaged vehicles or vehicles on [[Crew lock]].

===Air Arcade Assault===

In Air Arcade Assault mode, there are battle rating ranges as follows:

* 1.0 - 2.3
* 2.7 - 3.7
* 4.0 - 5.0
* 5.3 - 6.3
* 6.7+

The battle rating of the highest BR aircraft in a lineup is used to determine which range a player will be matched in.

Ground units and naval vessels in the lineup are not taken into account and cannot be taken into battle. Neither can damaged vehicles or vehicles on [[Crew lock]].

==Ground Forces==

===Ground Arcade Battles===

In Ground Arcade Battles, the battle rating of the highest BR ground vehicle, with players only able to see ground units with BR ±1.0.

Aircraft and naval vessels in the lineup are not taken into account and cannot be taken into battle. Neither can damaged vehicles or vehicles on [[Crew lock]].

===Ground Realistic Battles===

In Ground Realistic Battles, the batting rating of the highest BR ground vehicle or aircraft (including helicopters) is used, with players only able to see ground units and aircraft with BR ±1.0.

For example, for a lineup consisting of a BR 5.0 ground unit and a BR 5.3 aircraft, the BR of the aircraft is taken, and vehicles with BR between 4.3 and 6.3 can be seen.

Naval vessels in the lineup are not taken into account and cannot be taken into battle. Neither can damaged vehicles or vehicles on [[Crew lock]].

===Ground Simulator Battles===

In Ground Simulator Battles, battle rating is irrelevant in matchmaking. Only vehicles listed on the '''Allowed vehicles''' list can be taken into battle, with at least one vehicle from the '''Required vehicles''' list (if applicable) required to enter the game.

Any vehicle not listed in either the '''Allowed vehicles''' list will not be taken into battle. Neither can damaged vehicles or vehicles on [[Crew lock]].

===Ground Arcade Assault===

In Ground Arcade Assault mode, there are battle rating ranges as follows:

* 1.0 - 2.3
* 2.7 - 3.7
* 4.0 - 5.0
* 5.3 - 6.3
* 6.7 - 8.0
* 8.3+

The battle rating of the highest BR ground unit or helicopter in a lineup is used to determine which range a player will be matched in.

Aircraft and naval vessels in the lineup are not taken into account and cannot be taken into battle. Neither can damaged vehicles or vehicles on [[Crew lock]].

==Naval Forces==

Matchmaking works the same way in both naval Arcade and Realistic battles. The battle rating of the highest BR naval vessel is used, with players able to see naval vessels and aircraft with BR ±1.0. Aircraft with BR up to one BR step (+0.3/0.4) above the highest BR naval vessel can also be taken. If the BR of the aircraft exceeds the BR of the naval vessel, its BR will be used instead. Aircraft more than one BR step higher than the highest naval vessel are not taken into account and will not be available to be used in the battle.

For example, for a lineup consisting of a BR 2.0 naval vessel and a BR 2.3 aircraft, the BR of the aircraft is taken, and vehicles with BR between 1.3 and 3.3 can be seen. For a lineup consisting of a BR 2.0 naval vessel and a BR 2.7 aircraft, the aircraft will not be taken into battle and vehicles with BR between 1.0 and 3.0 will be seen.

Ground units in the lineup are not taken into account and cannot be taken into battle. Neither can damaged vehicles or vehicles on [[Crew lock]].

==Squads==

In any game mode except for Air and Ground Forces Simulator Battles, when playing in a squad, the Matchmaker uses the highest battle rating within the squad. For Air AB, the highest total BR within the squad is used.

For example, in Air RB, for a squadron consisting of a BR 4.7 aircraft and a BR 5.7 aircraft, the BR of the higher aircraft is used, and both players will be put into matches where they can see aircraft with BR between 4.7 and 6.7.
In the second part, tell the reader about the aircraft in the game. Insert a screenshot of the vehicle, so that if the novice player does not remember the vehicle by name, he will immediately understand what kind of vehicle the article is talking about.'' -->
The '''{{Specs|name}}''' is a rank {{Specs|rank}} American fighter {{Battle-rating}}. It was introduced in [[Update 1.37]].

The P-400 is the "little brother" of the [[P-39N-0|P-39's]] and [[P-63A-5|P-63's]]. Reaching maximum speed at an altitude of 2,400 m (7,900 ft) means you will have to look for enemies below you, or sacrifice speed to meet the opposition higher up. At medium & low altitudes it can be considered quite a fast plane for its [[BR]] range. It handles turning at higher speed rather well but can become quite unstable at lower speeds. Watch out when engaging in stall fighting, hammerheads & yo-yos. The P-400 can survive at high speeds while diving, yet will suffer from compression. The plane is suitable for high speeds attacks where you work with more with horizontal than vertical movements. Keep your speed up!

The P-400 has good weapons consisting of one 20 mm cannon with 60 rounds and two .50 cals and four .30 cals. If you have a good aim, you can destroy enemies in seconds, but if you don't the limited cannon ammo will run out in about 10-15 seconds. The .50 calibre will still destroy foes reasonably quickly, though the .30 cals require the right amount of consistency and concentrated fire.
{{main|AN-M64A1 (500 lb)}}

The '''''{{PAGENAME}}''''' can be outfitted with the following ordnance:

* Without load
* 1 x 500 lb AN-M64A1 bomb (500 lb total)

== Usage in battles ==
<!-- ''Describe the tactics of playing in the aircraft, the features of using aircraft in a team and advice on tactics. Refrain from creating a "guide" - do not impose a single point of view, but instead, give the reader food for thought. Examine the most dangerous enemies and give recommendations on fighting them. If necessary, note the specifics of the game in different modes (AB, RB, SB).'' -->
Try using energy tactics at low altitude and Boom & Zoom to dispatch targets if you are at high altitude. In Domination matches, this plane comes into its environment with dogfight furballs occurring in which the P-400 can intervene. Use the excellent energy retention to your advantage and avoid any type of turn fighting, as even a [[F6F-5|F6F Hellcat]] would be able to out-turn your aircraft.

Never try to contest bomber altitude when you have it stock - it just lacks the engine power to compete above 4,000 meters, and even as a spaded aircraft, it still doesn't perform as well as the [[Spitfire Mk Ia|Spitfires]] and [[Bf 109 E-3|Bf 109s]] at similar battle ratings. If you're ever forced to dogfight, use the rudder and elevator to pull yourself into a sort of climbing spiral, which the P-400 is exceptionally good at thanks to its powerful engine.

The [[Hispano 404 (20 mm)|Hispano cannon]] once on target will easily take out fighters and most bombers with even a short burst, or at the very least, cripple it. However, if there is any good fighter pilot on the enemy team, they will climb and try to secure high altitude. When you see them in more agile aircraft, your only option is to dive away and begin to strafe the furball down low. Beware that many planes in this battle rating range, including the [[I-16 type 27|Cannon Ishak]], outperform this plane in at least one, if not more categories, but this plane usually has more than one advantage over every plane it will face (i.e. it is faster than the [[Spitfire_Mk_Ia|Spitfire Mk 1a]] and out rolls it).

Use the advantages of this plane - its high speed, great rudder, powerful engine, superior armament, and terrific initial turn at high speeds. However, don't use it in a way that exposes its weaknesses - bad low-speed handling, weak turning, and poor climb rate - in combat, like when you are getting Rope-a-Doped, just flip over with an Immelmann and Turn & Burn.

=== Pros and cons ===
<!-- ''Summarise and briefly evaluate the vehicle in terms of its characteristics and combat effectiveness. Mark its pros and cons in the bulleted list. Try not to use more than 6 points for each of the characteristics. Avoid using categorical definitions such as "bad", "good" and the like - use substitutions with softer forms such as "inadequate" and "effective".'' -->

'''Pros:'''

* Fast plane up to ~3,000 m (12,000 ft)
* Decent turn time (especially at higher speeds)
* Machine guns, the .30 cal and the .50 cal has separate trigger
* Good pool of machine gun ammunition
* Good stopping power with all weapons active
* Nose mounted 20 mm cannon (centre line mounted weaponry equals good accuracy)
* Well armoured
* Cockpit has good visibility
* Carries a total of 7 guns with three slightly different trajectories, resulting in a high hit probability with at least one of them
* Hispano cannon is more accurate and reliable than the 37 mm cannon
* Excellent rudder control even at high speeds
* Powerful engine

'''Cons:'''

* Low ammunition count for 20 mm cannon
* Ammo counter represents the total amount of machine gun ammo, not the particular calibre
* Gets pilot-sniped easily due to the bubble canopy design
* Suffers a lot from compression
* Becomes quite unstable at low speeds
* Fuel cells are stretched across the wings, resulting in fairly common fires
* The engine is centrally mounted, taking engine damage while being chased is common
* Terrible turning at high speeds
* Horrible responsiveness & roll rate

This section may also include the vehicle's dev blog entry (if applicable) and the in-game encyclopedia description (under <code><nowiki>=== In-game description ===</nowiki></code>, also if applicable).'' -->

=== In-game description ===
A single-engine all-metal monoplane fighter with a closed cockpit and retractable tricycle landing gear with a nose leg. The aircraft had an unusual layout, with the engine placed behind the cockpit.

The aircraft was designed by the Bell Aircraft design office under the direction of R. Woods and H. Poyer. The experimental model XP-39 took its maiden flight on 6 April 1938.

The first overseas order came from France in October 1939. The French were in urgent need of rearming their fighter forces, and bought as many fighters as they could from overseas. However, the order was not fulfilled before France's capitulation in the summer of 1940. After the capitulation, all outstanding French orders for military vehicles were redirected to Britain.

The high flight characteristics of the experimental XP-39 also drew attention from the British buying committee in the USA. Seduced by its tricycle undercarriage, powerful armament, high climbing rate and promises of high speeds of up to 640 km/h, the British ordered 675 airplanes, including the 200 from the French order.

The fighters produced for Britain had the designation model 14A and were powered by the 12-cylinder air-cooled Allison V-1710-E4 engine with a maximum output of 1,150 hp.

The model 14A's armament consisted of a 20 mm British-Hispano M1 cannon with 60 shells, two large-caliber synchronized Colt Browning M2.5 machine guns on the fuselage with 200 rounds each and four British 7.7 mm Colt-Browning Mk.II .303 machine guns on the wing surfaces with 350 rounds each.

In the RAF, the model 14A fighters received the designation Airacobra Mk.I. However, when the British received the first Airacobra Mk.Is in the summer of 1941, tests revealed that rather than the high-altitude interceptor they had expected, they had actually received an unexceptional medium-altitude fighter, albeit with a powerful engine. At the same time, the fighter's manoeuvrability and responsiveness received good ratings.

In December 1941, the British Air Ministry decided to remove the Airacobra Mk.I from service. By this time, 164 of the fighters had been sent to Britain.

After Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor, the US requisitioned the fighters which had not yet been shipped to the British or were still in various stages of assembly.

In December 1941, 179 of the aircraft went into service in the USAAF with the designation P-400. They kept their British camouflage and organizational numbering. The majority of these planes served within US territory as training vehicles, but a number of P-400s took part in combat operations in New Guinea and North Africa.

=== Joke ===
A joke which may (or may not) have been used by the British in WW2:<ref group="note">Copied from [http://forum.warthunder.com/index.php?/topic/291882-schlechte-witze-mit-war-thunder-bezug/?p=5693741#entry5693741 War Thunder Forum "Schlechte Witze mit War Thunder Bezug" - 'Bad jokes with War Thunder related content'], no source was given by the forum user. In the second part, tell the reader about the ground vehicle in the game. Insert a screenshot of the vehicle, so that if the novice player does not remember the vehicle by name, he will immediately understand what kind of vehicle the article is talking about.'' -->
The '''{{Specs|name}}''' is a rank {{Specs|rank}} German medium tank {{Battle-rating}}. It was introduced in [[Update 1.71 "New E.R.A."]].

The KPz-70 displays impressive mobility, in terms of its ability to pickup and maintain speed over various terrains - albeit it is somewhat lackluster compared to some of the top rank vehicles such as the [[M1 Abrams|M1 Abrams]] and [[T-80B]]. This unfortunately negates many of the advantages the KPz-70 maintained during its reign as a top-rank vehicle. However, this doesn't change the need to utilize what mobility the vehicle has - it's the best weapon the KPz-70 has.

Unlike the Soviet T-64A (its main rival), the KPz-70 does not utilize composite armour, but an air gap that forces munitions penetrating the initial layers to lose their mass by fragmenting apart before moving to the next layer of armour. This general design concept has been in use as far back as WW2 and is even used to this day on modern fighting vehicles.

Spaced armour works wonderfully well against shaped charge munitions or any other munition with explosive filler provided it is of a stronger protection rating. Proceeding weapons and munitions development has seen this benefit decreased with either more powerful or tandem charge warheads and can be seen in-game against weapons that proceeded different designs of spaced armour. As such, the KPz-70 will find weapons that were designed to defeat spaced armour such as the HOT-K3S ATGM and BAE Swingfire system that will penetrate it. However, the spaced armour in the KPz-70 works exactly as it was designed to do against older anti-tank missiles, HEAT, HE, and HESH munitions.

The tank mounts no external spaced armour. The armour on the side and rear of the tank is not worth mentioning as it will only stop light machine gun fire and some cannon fire on the turret. Adversary SABOT rounds will penetrate clear through the engine and into the crew compartment most likely destroying the tank if engaged from behind.

The most important feature that makes a tank is the cannon. In this department, the KPz-70 is no slouch. The 152 mm gun launcher system (the same one used on the [[M551|M551 Sheridan]]), but with a longer barrel and is capable of firing a variety of munition types including an experimental APFSDS round, a traditional HEAT round (with high penetration), an experimental smoke round, and lastly the very capable and proven MGM-61C Shillelagh. This wide range of munition choices gives the operator a variety of options in a pre-combat configuration which can greatly either hinder or enhance the tankers capability on the battlefield. The benefit of a longer barrel compared to its Sheridan counterpart ensures the KPz-70 is much more accurate at range and that the rounds leave the barrel at higher velocities thus increasing their overall damage-dealing capabilities.

Additionally, the 152 mm gun launcher gets equipped with an autoloader, greatly reducing its time between followup shots on a target.

For targeting, the option to equip an incredibly accurate laser range finder is available. Additionally, the 7.62 mm machine gun mounted in the turret can be used for range finding as well.

The Rheinmetall Rh 202 20 mm autocannon is highly effective at dealing with lightly armoured battlefield threats and on some tanks exposed sides or rears. In some situations, it may be more beneficial to utilize the 20 mm as it will allow the tank to deal damage rapidly while conserving the 152 mm main cannon ammunition. The cannon is also highly effective at shooting down low flying attackers. Note that if the commander is knocked out, the 20 mm will become unusable.

The KPz-70 is equipped with a diesel-fueled 1,500 horsepower (1,100 kW) Daimler Benz V12 engine. This engine pack compared to its American counterpart produces more power, but only slightly so giving the KPz-70 an amazing 29.8 hp/t at 50 - 51.7 tons (depending on upgrade configuration).

A highly advantageous feature is the [[Hydropneumatic suspension|hydropneumatic suspension]] system which not only provides great cross country mobility but allows the crew to position the vehicle in such a way to only expose the strongest armour at an enemy threat. The suspension can also be used to gain further gun depression by raising the rear of the tank and lowering the front thus allowing the gunner to engage from a position that he might not have been able to engage from previously.

The KPz-70 features the standard NATO track and block design that can be found on most NATO vehicles. The rubber track blocks provide great traction off-road and on-road compared to all-metal tracks found on other fighting vehicles as sliding on a short halt or drifting is minimized.

Because of the elevated engine deck, gun depression is decreased significantly when firing or aiming the gun over the rear of the tank.

An unconventional feature at the time the KPz-70 was designed was the housing of all the crew members in the turret. Because of the autoloading system, the need for a loader was eliminated and due to an attempt to further lower the silhouette of the tank, the driver was located to the turret with the gunner and commander. This can have potentially devastating consequences on the battlefield as the crew can easily be injured or incapacitated by penetrating munitions entering the crew compartment.

For defensive countermeasures, the tank is equipped with quad four-barrel externally mounted smoke canister launchers which can provide either a defensive screen for the tank or friendly forces. These launchers can be fired in pairs of two. Keep in mind the smoke grenade launchers are operated by the gunner so should he become incapacitated in a fight, the smokes will become unavailable until the gunner is either replaced by another crew member or the crew replenishment consumable restores them.

Due to its low profile and effective array of camouflage options the KPz-70 scores high marks in the concealability category. It has a total of 4 camouflage options available to it. The standard (a 3 tone NATO CARC camouflage), winter camouflage (requires 700 battles against other players in the tank), a brown camouflage for desert environments, and lastly an olive drab option. The addition of various foliage can further increase the ability to conceal the tank.

The main weakness of the KPz-70 to take advantage of as an opposing player is the weak armour when compared to other tanks of its rank. If the KPz-70 can be baited to come towards a position, it becomes much easier to fight. Avoid springing a well-placed KPz-70 ambush if at all possible or try to sneak around him to flank and attack his weakest armour. A well-placed shot through the side of the turret is generally ensured destruction as all of the crew is located in the turret along with an ammunition store with rounds being located under the turret basket.

With the proper position or speed, try getting around the KPz-70 and engaging him from where it does not expect. It's important to remember the KPz-70 has the ability to quickly snap the turret around and engage any enemy, so surprising the tank is of the up-most central importance to come out victorious.

Another weakness that can be exploited is its speed. Because of its speed, unskilled players or players unfamiliar with its play style will often rush into situations they are not equipped to fight properly and find themselves overwhelmed, allowing a prepared defence to eliminate them.

One last weak spot worth mentioning is the turret ring. High penetrating munitions can completely pierce this section and travel into the crew compartment. SABOT rounds are especially effective at this. Any tank or SPAA with fast firing 30+ mm gun can penetrate it easily.

Do not try to out-shoot the KPz-70 as it has a very rapid reload that in most cases will ensure that unless the tank's ability to fire is disabled, it will recover and continue to fire to disable or destroy its offender.
=== Machine guns ===
{{Specs-Tank-Weapon|2}}
{{Specs-Tank-Weapon|3}}
<!-- ''Offensive and anti-aircraft machine guns not only allow you to fight some aircraft but also are effective against lightly armoured vehicles. Evaluate machine guns and give recommendations on its use.'' -->
{{main|Rh202 (20 mm)|MG3A1 (7.62 mm)}}

KPz-70 is one of the few medium tanks (aside from French, [[Leopard 2K]] and [[MBT-70]]) to carry 20 mm coaxial autocannon. This weapon '''should not''' be treated lightly or dismissed as "just an anti-aircraft" gun, as it has 57 mm penetration at flat angle, and it will shred anything from light tanks and SPAA, to lightly armoured medium tanks' sides and SPG, if they are not angled. In case that their armour cannot be penetrated, use the autocannon to destroy a hostile tank's gun barrel and make them helpless, then return fire. This is even more effective, considering the main cannon can fire ATGM directly at enemy tank without losing the penetration or accuracy even when its barrel is broken, allowing you to punish people fishing for easy cannon barrel takedowns.

If necessary, the 20 mm can also fire at the sky to take out helicopters and careless jet pilots.

Do note, that this pintle-mounted weapon is not protected by anything - HE hit to the hull (for example, if SAM tank fires at it) will likely obliterate it, forcing it to do pathetic damage and jam or miss a lot. Do not forget to repair it.

7.62 mm machine gun is simply used to make bullet screens against hostile ATGM or to put more pressure on aircrafts, if they can be targeted by it.
== Usage in battles ==
<!-- ''Describe the tactics of playing in the vehicle, the features of using vehicles in the team and advice on tactics. Refrain from creating a "guide" - do not impose a single point of view but instead give the reader food for thought. Describe the most dangerous enemies and give recommendations on fighting them. If necessary, note the specifics of the game in different modes (AB, RB, SB).'' -->
The tank plays very much like the [[Leopard_A1A1|Leopard 1A1A1]]. Players familiar with the Leopard play style will easily adapt to the KPz-70. It has reasonable mobility, especially with full upgrades and aced crew, allowing it to manoeuvre into spots not typically accessible by less mobile tanks. Utilize this to an advantage to set up ambushes as this is how the KPz-70 will get the best of many opponents. It's important to recognize when engagement is not beneficial so that the tank may get a better position or escape from the threat.

Despite the initial appearance of strong frontal armour, it's important to remember when compared to its counterparts at its rank, it is not nearly enough to defeat threats head-on such as the [[T-64A_(1971)|T-64A]]. Even ATGM from missile vehicles such as the [[RakJPz_2_(HOT)|Raketenjagdpanzer 2 HOT]] will penetrate the turret and upper glacis plate. Even other Rank V tanks can and will penetrate from the front. Because of the rather condensed placement of crew and ammunition, the KPz-70 will most likely be destroyed. Because of this, it is critical that the KPz-70 gets the first shot off in engagement and ensure it is either eliminated or crippled to such a capacity they either cannot engage or will instinctively panic and try to run to repair or determine the engagement location.

The gun is especially versatile and powerful with a wide range of ammunition selection, but generally, the cannon launched ATGM's and sabot rounds will get the job done in most situations. The 20 mm turret roof-mounted cannon is great for taking out lightly armoured targets (to include some tanks, ATGM vehicles, etc), anti-air, and aircraft.

Essentially, if this tank is treated like a Leopard, the survivability rate will increase dramatically. The hydropneumatic suspension allows the tank to position in such ways that it can engage from non-conventional spots while exposing only the strongest armour towards the threat. The low silhouette makes the tank especially difficult to hit at longer ranges and this can be further enhanced (situation dependent) by the adjustable suspension. Because of the accurate cannon, it will also find be easy to engage at longer ranges which will maximize the KPz-70's strengths while reducing the targets.

In summary, the KPz-70 is a great addition to any end game lineup as it provides great flexibility in almost all engagements and is well worth the time and investment to acquire.

===Tactics===
Ambushing is the tank's strength. As covered previously, utilize the speed to get into firing positions quickly and cause chaos and confusion among the enemy.

The KPz-70 can also quickly capture objective points and when used properly hold positions so long as it does not stay in any one place too long.

Scoot and shoot tactics will benefit the KPz-70 play style as well as terrain masking techniques.

Should the tank have to fight in closer engagement ranges or in close quarters, it's critical to always remember the armour will not protect the tank reliably. However, the speed, fast-rotating turret, and manoeuvrability will. Provided the player utilizes these to their advantage, the KPz-70 will be able to control the fight. Recognize when the enemy is baiting the tank into an ambush and avoid them as the KPz-70 doesn't stand a great chance of conducting a counter-ambush due to the weak armour.

If the KPz-70 does find itself a victim of an ambush, launch a smokescreen, escape, and reassess for a counter-ambush.

The KPz-70 benefits greatly from squad play. A skilled lone KPz-70 is most certainly a threat on the battlefield but 2 or even 3 KPz-70's working in conjunction with each other in a squad is an extreme danger to the opposing team as the use of squad tactics in combination with the great strengths of the tank can almost completely control the momentum of the conflict.

=== Pros and cons ===
* 20mm autocannon anti-aircraft gun mounted on the top of the tank
* Low profile for visibility
* Has a hydropneumatic suspension system
* The fuel tanks in the hull can absorb HEAT-FS shells

'''Cons:'''

* Unimpressive frontal plate armour, the turret ring is also exposed, allowing SPAA and light tanks to destroy it frontally
* Vulnerable to the rear, if the hydropneumatic suspension is not used
* Optics are vulnerable and can cause ATGMs and HE to explode downwards into the crew compartment
* Very easy to one shot because of 3 crew cramped in the turret

Being threatened by the Soviet T-64 tank, Germany and the United States joined together to develop a new main battle tank in the mid-1960s. This became the MBT/KPz-70 project. The new main battle tank would use advanced technology of the time, including hydropneumatic suspension, 152mm gun/launcher capable firing tank shell and ATGM, autoloading system, spaced armour, 1500 horsepower diesel engine and remote-controlled weapon station. Everything looks perfect on paper, but in reality, there were many problems. The autoloading system could load Shillelagh missile quite easily, but it would jam the tank shell. The housing of the driver in a rotating cupola inside the turret would cause an unanticipated problems to the driver. The caseless ammunition would also become unusable if the humidity is high.

With such design problems and over budget, MBT/KPz-70 project was officially cancelled in 1971. Though the MBT/KPz-70 never entered service, many of its design and technology had been passed on to its successor: M1 Abrams and Keiler, the latter of which became the Leopard 2.

* Hull spaced armour configuration is 34 mm RHA + 127 mm air + 46 mm RHA.
* Turret spaced armour configuration is 38 mm RHA + 127 mm air + 130-33 mm RHA.
* Turret rear spaced armour configuration is 13 mm RHA + 38 mm air + 19 mm RHA.

=== Machine guns ===
{{Specs-Tank-Weapon|3}}
<!-- ''Offensive and anti-aircraft machine guns not only allow you to fight some aircraft but also are effective against lightly armoured vehicles. Evaluate machine guns and give recommendations on its use.'' -->
{{main|Rh202 (20 mm)|MG3A1 (7.62 mm)}}

KPz-70 is one of the few medium tanks (aside from French, Leopard 2K and [[MBT-70]]) to carry 20 mm coaxial autocannon.

== Usage in battles ==

===Tactics===

=== Pros and cons ===
<!-- ''Summarise and briefly evaluate the vehicle in terms of its characteristics and combat effectiveness. Mark its pros and cons in a bulleted list. Try not to use more than 6 points for each of the characteristics. Avoid using categorical definitions such as "bad", "good" and the like - use substitutions with softer forms such as "inadequate" and "effective".'' -->

'''Pros:'''

* Great mobility, although out-stripped by some vehicles that utilize turbine engines
* Extremely fast in both forwards and reverse
* Fast reload at 6 seconds with autoloader
* Great gun, with access to various types of ammunition, ATGMs included
* 20mm autocannon anti-aircraft gun mounted on the top of the tank
* Low profile for visibility
