The M-17's armour is decent for its rank, able to shrug off small to medium-calibre rounds from torpedo boats. However when facing larger-calibre guns from other gun boats and destroyers the armour lacks protection, especially the turrets which can be disabled easily. The fuel tanks are located in the centre of the hull and can result in frequent fires. However it can still take many large destroyer rounds to destroy the ship as the crew is spread out. It is preferred to upgrade the armour for even better crew and ammo rack protection.

=== Mobility ===
{{Specs-Fleet-Mobility}}
<!-- ''Write about the ship's mobility. Evaluate its power and manoeuvrability, rudder rerouting speed, stopping speed at full tilt, with its maximum forward and reverse speed.'' -->
{{NavalMobility}}

The M-17 is very sluggish to accelerate and turn. Manoeuvres must be planned well in advance to avoid torpedoes and running aground. It is recommended to upgrade the rudder first to improve turn time as well as the engine, propeller and crew to improve both acceleration and deceleration and make it a more potent gunship.
The two 10.5 cm main guns are very effective and have good reload time and muzzle velocity, able to knock out small boats in two or three well-placed hits. The upgraded armour-piercing ''L/4.4 Bd.Z'' is recommended for hardened targets such as armoured boats and gun ships but is not very effective on one-to-one with destroyers. The gun's horizontal traverse favours a broadside attack or angling about 45 degrees towards the target to minimise exposure.

=== Secondary armament ===
{{Specs-Fleet-Secondary}}
<!-- ''Some ships are fitted with weapons of various calibres. Evaluate the secondary armaments and give advice on how to use them. Describe the ammunition available for the secondary armament. Provide recommendations on how to use them and which ammunition to choose. Remember that any anti-air armament, even heavy calibre weapons, belong in the next section. If there is no secondary armament, remove this section.'' -->
{{main|2 cm/65 C/38 (20 mm)|2 cm/65 Flakvierling 38 (20 mm)}}

The M-17 is fitted with multiple 20 mm Flak cannons which are effective against small boats and, being radar-guided, is accurate against low-flying aircraft less than 2.5 km away. The short reload time contributes to a large volume of fire that can repel enemy attacks. However, the main quad 20 mm is positioned towards the stern and cannot fire directly forwards and the front is only protected by the two port and starboard cannons.

=== Additional armament ===
{{Specs-Fleet-Additional}}
<!-- ''Describe the available additional armaments of the ship: depth charges, mines, torpedoes. Talk about their positions, available ammunition and launch features such as dead zones of torpedoes. If there is no additional armament, remove this section.'' -->
{{main|WBG depth charge|EMC mine}}

There are no light machine guns nor 37 mm cannons like the similar M-802. There is an upgrade to a powerful anti-submarine bomb mortar but its use is very limited and opportunistic in-game. The slow speed of the M-17 makes mines difficult to set up and use effectively.

== Usage in battles ==
<!-- ''Describe the technique of using this ship, the characteristics of her use in a team and tips on strategy. Abstain from writing an entire guide – don't try to provide a single point of view, but give the reader food for thought. Talk about the most dangerous opponents for this vehicle and provide recommendations on fighting them. If necessary, note the specifics of playing with this vehicle in various modes (AB, RB, SB).'' -->

The M-17 is similar to the M-802 but without the reinforced engine armour or the torpedoes. As with most sub-chasers, it's slow and won't arrive first to the battlefield, but the ship has well armoured 105 mm main guns with enough fire power to hull break many ships or pen destroyers with base fuze HE in desperate scenarios. Facing destroyers is ill-advised as they have higher caliber guns in larger quantity.

This ship should be used at long range to allow for more time to react to smaller vessels as well as the torpedoes as the slow speed of this ship makes it a torpedo and artillery magnet. In a pinch, the vessel can litter a capture point with mines, albeit they require a lot of skill and patience to use and often act as an extra ammo rack prone to detonate. The high position of the player's angle of view makes spotting targets behind obstacles much easier.

To counter this vessel, the most vulnerable place is the bow where the ammo rack is. A single bomb or torpedo there is guaranteed to sink the vessel. The safest option would be swarming the M-17 as multiple ships at different flanks will overwhelm the ship easily.

=== Pros and cons ===
<!-- ''Summarise and briefly evaluate the vehicle in terms of its characteristics and combat effectiveness. Mark its pros and cons in the bulleted list.
'''Pros:'''

* Heavy-hitting main armament can knock out many coastal vessels
* Coastal spawn allows the vehicle to face small vessels
* Fast reload rate
* High survivability
* Can carry many mines

'''Cons:'''

* Sluggish speed makes this ship vulnerable to torpedoes
* Outgunned by destroyers
* Massive/tall target
* Low calibre AA is ineffective at long ranges
The '''{{Specs|name}}''' is a rank {{Specs|rank}} German sub-chaser {{Battle-rating}}. It was introduced in [[Update "Direct Hit"]].

== General info ==
=== Survivability and armour ===
{{Specs-Fleet-Armour}}
<!-- ''Talk about the vehicle's armour. Note the most well-defended and most vulnerable zones, e.g. the ammo magazine. Evaluate the composition of components and assemblies responsible for movement and manoeuvrability. Evaluate the survivability of the primary and secondary armaments separately. If necessary, use a graphical template to show the most well-protected or most vulnerable points in the armour.'' -->
The M-17's armour is decent for it's tier, being able to shrug off small to medium calibre rounds from torpedo boats. However when facing larger calibre guns from other gun boats and destroyers the armour lacks protection, especially the turrets which can be disabled easily. The fuel tanks are located in the centre of the hull which can cause frequent fires. However it can still take many large destroyer rounds to destroy the ship. It is preferred to upgrade the armour for even better crew and ammo rack protection.

=== Mobility ===
{{Specs-Fleet-Mobility}}
<!-- ''Write about the ship's mobility. Evaluate its power and manoeuvrability, rudder rerouting speed, stopping speed at full tilt, with its maximum forward and reverse speed.'' -->
{{NavalMobility}}

The M-17 is very sluggish to accelerate and turn. Manoeuvres must be planned well in advance to avoid torpedoes and running aground. It is recommended to upgrade the rudder to improve turn time and the engine, propeller and crew to improve both acceleration and deceleration, making it a more potent gunship.
The two 10.5cm main guns are very effective and have good reload time and muzzle velocity, able to knock out small boats in two or three well-placed hits. The upgraded armour-piercing L/4.4 Bd.Z is recommended for hardened targets such as armoured boats and gun ships but is not very effective on one-to-one with destroyers. The arc of fire favours a broadside attack or angling about 45 degrees to the target.

=== Secondary armament ===
{{Specs-Fleet-Secondary}}
<!-- ''Some ships are fitted with weapons of various calibres. Secondary armaments are defined as weapons chosen with the control <code>Select secondary weapon</code>.
{{main|2 cm/65 C/38 (20 mm)|2 cm/65 Flakvierling 38 (20 mm)}}

The M-17 is fitted with multiple 20mm cannons which are effective against small boats and being radar guided, is accurate against low-flying aircraft less than 2 km. The volume of fire and short reload time contributes to a large volume of fire that can repel enemy attacks. However the quad 20mm are mounted towards the stern and the front is only covered by the two port and starboard cannons.

=== Additional armament ===
{{Specs-Fleet-Additional}}
<!-- ''Describe the available additional armaments of the ship: depth charges, mines, torpedoes. Talk about their positions, available ammunition and launch features such as dead zones of torpedoes. If there is no additional armament, remove this section.'' -->
{{main|WBG depth charge|EMC mine}}There are no light machines guns on the M-17, nor are there 37mm cannons like the M-802. There is an upgrade to a powerful anti-submarine bomb mortar but its use is very limited and opportunistic in-game. The slow travel makes mines difficult to use.

== Usage in battles ==

To counter this vessel, the most vulnerable place is the bow where the ammo rack is. A single bomb or torpedo there is guaranteed to sink the vessel. The safest option would be swarming the M-17 as multiple ships at different flanks will overwhelm the ship easily.

=== Pros and cons ===
<!-- ''Summarise and briefly evaluate the vehicle in terms of its characteristics and combat effectiveness. Mark its pros and cons in the bulleted list. Try not to use more than 6 points for each of the characteristics. Avoid using categorical definitions such as "bad", "good" and the like - use substitutions with softer forms such as "inadequate" and "effective".'' -->

'''Pros:'''

* Heavy-hitting main armament can knock out many coastal vessels
* Coastal spawn allows the vehicle to face small vessels
* Fast reload rate
* High survivability
* Can carry many mines

'''Cons:'''

* Sluggish speed makes this ship vulnerable to torpedoes
* Outgunned by destroyers
* Massive/tall target
* Low calibre AA is ineffective at long ranges

The S-100, like most low tier ships, has limited armour protection. The bridge is protected by 12 mm of hardened armour and the two rear turrets are similarly defended. None of the other components of the ship, such as the engines and fuel tanks, are protected.
{{main|MG 15 (7.92 mm)}}

One machine gun is mounted on either side of the bridge. Because of this, they have very limited traverse and are mostly ineffective against aircraft. However, they do have a high rate of fire.

=== Additional armament ===
{{Specs-Fleet-Additional}}
<!-- ''Describe the available additional armaments of the ship: depth charges, mines, torpedoes. Talk about their positions, available ammunition and launch features such as dead zones of torpedoes. If there is no additional armament, remove this section.'' -->
{{main|G7a (533 mm)|EMF mine}}

The torpedo tubes are fixed to the hull of the ship so torpedoes must be aimed by changing the direction of the vessel. They have a maximum speed of 81 km/h.

== Usage in battles ==
The S-100 shares the same hull and playstyle as the S-38b. The key differences is the 3,7 cm auxiliary weapon and the limited AA firing angle. Although it's tempting to, turning broadside to use the centre-mounted dual cannons is ill-advised in most cases as the hull is fragile. Using speed to deliver surprise attacks and flanking lone enemies is the way to go, but never attack an group when outnumbered. Captains may find the S-100 an effective destroyer hunter with this ship's high speed and effective torpedoes.

=== Pros and cons ===
'''Pros:'''

* Slightly faster than the S-38b when fully upgraded with same mobility
* Excellent fast-firing cannons with double the ammo capacity compared to its predecessor
* 3.7 cm cannon has high rate of fire and no overheat, making very deadly against small ships and aircraft
* Great torpedoes with convenient firing angle and excellent damage

'''Cons:'''

* 3.7 cm cannon has limited arc and cannot shoot directly ahead
* 7.92 mm MG 15 have limited firing angles and are ineffective as AA armament
* Minimal hull protection

Add a screenshot: if a beginner player has a hard time remembering vehicles by name, a picture will help them identify the ship in question.'' -->
The '''{{Specs|name}}''' is a rank {{Specs|rank}} German hydrofoil torpedo boat {{Battle-rating}}. It was introduced in [[Update 1.79 "Project X"]] as part of the fleet closed beta test.

== General info ==
=== Survivability and armour ===
{{Specs-Fleet-Armour}}
Don't forget to mention the size of the crew, which plays an important role in fleet mechanics. Save tips on preserving survivability for the "Usage in battles" section. If necessary, use a graphical template to show the most well-protected or most vulnerable points in the armour.'' -->
The survivability of the VS-10 is poor. With a crew of only 19 and almost no armour, the boat is very vulnerable against fast-firing autocannons that are common at this BR, especially on the sides. Due to its spaced profile, however, the VS-10 can take some damage and even a large calibre hit from a destroyer. Always make sure to make your bow (front) face enemy ships and try not to expose your vulnerable sides as much as possible.

=== Mobility ===
{{Specs-Fleet-Mobility}}
<!-- ''Write about the ship's mobility. Evaluate its power and manoeuvrability, rudder rerouting speed, stopping speed at full tilt, with its maximum forward and reverse speed.'' -->

{{NavalMobility}}

The VS-10 is a ship that has good mobility and acceleration, mainly due to its hydrofoils. It is a fast ship with a top speed of 155 km/h (AB)/111 km/h (RB) when fully upgraded. However, the use of hydrofoils can make manoeuvring difficult as the ship tends to drift sideways at high speeds and deceleration is weak. The reverse speed of the VS-10 is average.

=== Modifications and economy ===
{{Specs-Economy}}

== Armament ==
{{Specs-Fleet-Armaments}}
=== Primary armament ===
{{Specs-Fleet-Primary}}
{{main|MG 151 (15 mm)}}
<!-- ''Provide information about the characteristics of the primary armament. Evaluate their efficacy in battle based on their reload speed, ballistics and the capacity of their shells. Add a link to the main article about the weapon: <code><nowiki>{{main|Weapon name (calibre)}}</nowiki></code>. Broadly describe the ammunition available for the primary armament, and provide recommendations on how to use it and which ammunition to choose.'' -->
The main armament of the VS-10 consisted of six 15mm MG 151 turrets, three at the bow, one on the bridge's roof, and the remaining two at the stern. If you're familiar with the [[LS 3]], it shouldn't take long to get used to the VS-10's armaments. Thanks to its rapid rate of fire of 750 rounds per minute and dense cone of fire, it is very deadly against any lightly-armoured boats it may come across. Being placed on a larger and taller platform, the MG 151 on the VS-10 has several improvements over the LS 3's such as improved effective range (up to 2.5 km), slower overheat time, larger ammo capacity, and faster reload time. The only drawback of the MG 151 on the VS-10 is that it's quite ineffective against armoured targets (especially Soviet armoured boats that are quite common at its BR), thus forcing the VS-10 to mainly rely on its torpedoes and artillery support to kill them.

There are three ammunition types available:

* Universal: {{Annotation|APIT|Armour-piercing incendiary tracer}}{{-}}{{Annotation|HEF|High-explosive fragmentation}}{{-}}{{Annotation|APIT|Armour-piercing incendiary tracer}}{{-}}{{Annotation|HEF|High-explosive fragmentation}}
* 15 mm APIT belt: {{Annotation|APIT|Armour-piercing incendiary tracer}}{{-}}{{Annotation|APIT|Armour-piercing incendiary tracer}}{{-}}{{Annotation|APIT|Armour-piercing incendiary tracer}}{{-}}{{Annotation|HEF|High-explosive fragmentation}}
* 15 mm HEIT belt: {{Annotation|HEF|High-explosive fragmentation}}{{-}}{{Annotation|HEF|High-explosive fragmentation}}{{-}}{{Annotation|HEFI-T*|High-explosive fragmentation incendiary (self-destruct)}}{{-}}{{Annotation|APIT|Armour-piercing incendiary tracer}}

=== Additional armament ===
{{Specs-Fleet-Additional}}
<!-- ''Describe the available additional armaments of the ship: depth charges, mines, torpedoes. Talk about their positions, available ammunition and launch features such as dead zones of torpedoes. If there is no additional armament, remove this section.'' -->
{{main|G7a (533 mm)}}

The VS-10 is equipped with two 533 mm G7a torpedoes. These torpedoes are quick, reaching speeds of 81 kph without the torpedo modification, and with it, 76 kph. Given the VS-10's role as a fast attack craft, it is not suggested to install the torpedo modification, as this craft should be used in the close combat role, as mentioned in the "Usage in Battles" section. Uninstalling the torpedo modification allows for faster target impact, reducing the chance of your prey dodging the torpedoes, and requiring lesser lead, which is useful given their location on the vessel. The two G7a torpedoes are fired from single tubes on either side of the craft. These tubes have a moderate outward spread, unlike the preceding boats in its tree, making firing both at the same target or within close proximity of each other difficult, which is exacerbated by the craft's poor high-speed manoeuvrability.

== Usage in battles ==
The main advantage of the VS-10 is its speed. It can be played in many different ways, however, advancing to the middle of the map and holding down a position is advised. The armament can make short work of lesser-armoured vehicles, however, ships with many crews can pose a challenge. Many ships with guns over 70 mm can destroy the VS-10 in one shot. If faced with a difficult situation, it is advised that you retreat using the VS-10's superior speed. Important threats to this vehicle include the [[SF40 Leichte]] and other ships with large amounts of Anti-Air and secondary weapons.

When facing the VS-10, aim for the guns on the front deck and the torpedo launchers. Alternatively, aiming for centre mass is possible, however, the VS-10 will likely to be able to defend itself.

=== Pros and cons ===

'''Pros:'''

* Placement of the six gun turrets result in a very dense cone of fire against close-range ships and aircraft
* Lots of ammo, with limited need to reload ensures a continuous stream of fire
* Quickly depletes the crews of unarmoured targets
* Very fast top speed for a boat (AB: 155 km/h / RB: 111 km/h)
* Stable firing platform at high-speed thanks to the hydrofoils
* Equipped with deadly G7a torpedoes

'''Cons:'''

* Hard to steer, and slower to decelerate when at high speed
* Placement of gun turrets makes it hard to get all guns on target when engaging other ships
* Guns are inaccurate and slow to reload if jammed
* Poor survivability due to low crew count and lack of armour
* Lacks harder-hitting weaponry against larger, armoured vessels, outside of the available torpedoes
* Fixed torpedo launchers with very wide spread are impractical in narrow waterways
* Hydrofoils make manoeuvring in shallow waters difficult

== History ==
<!-- ''Describe the history of the creation and combat usage of the ship in more detail than in the introduction.
The VS-10 was an experimental hydrofoil torpedo boat that was constructed in Gebr. Sachsenberg, Hamburg. Ordered in 1942, this ship was constructed of a mixture of materials to include wood, steel, and other alloy metals. The VS-10 was able to achieve a maximum speed of 50 knots, due to its 6,000 hp engine. The VS-10 was later destroyed in 1944 during an allied bombing raid. A similar 'sister' ship to the {{PAGENAME}} was ordered but due to the lateness of the war and lack of needed materials was never constructed.
